Prædikeren 3
1 Alting har sin Stund; og enhver Idræt under Himmelen har sin Tid.
To all things there is an appointed time, and a time to euery purpose vnder the heauen.
2 Der er en Tid til at føde og en Tid til at dø; en Tid til at plante og en Tid til at oprykke det plantede;
A time to bee borne, and a time to die: a time to plant, and a time to plucke vp that which is planted.
3 en Tid til at ihjelslaa og en Tid til at læge; en Tid til at nedrive og en Tid til at opbygge;
A time to slay, and a time to heale: a time to breake downe, and a time to builde.
4 en Tid til at græde og en Tid til at le; en Tid til at sørge og en Tid til at springe af Glæde;
A time to weepe, and a time to laugh: a time to mourne, and a time to dance.
5 en Tid til at bortkaste Stene og en Tid til at samle Stene; en Tid til at tage i Favn og en Tid til at holde sig fra Favntag;
A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones: a time to embrace, and a time to be farre from embracing.
6 en Tid til at søge og en Tid til at tabe; en Tid til at forvare og en Tid til at bortkaste;
A time to seeke, and a time to lose: a time to keepe, and a time to cast away.
7 en Tid til at sønderrive og en Tid til at sy sammen; en Tid til at tie og en Tid til at tale;
A time to rent, and a time to sowe: a time to keepe silence, and a time to speake.
8 en Tid til at elske og en Tid til at hade; en Tid til Krig og en Tid til Fred.
A time to loue, and a time to hate: a time of warre, and a time of peace.
9 Hvad Fordel har den, som udfører noget af det, han arbejder paa?
What profite hath hee that worketh of the thing wherein he trauaileth?
10 Jeg har set den Plage, som Gud har givet Menneskens Børn at plage sig med.
I haue seene the trauaile that God hath giuen to ye sonnes of men to humble them thereby.
11 Han har gjort alting smukt i sin Tid, ogsaa Evigheden har han lagt i deres Hjerte; kun at Mennesket ikke kan udfinde den Gerning, som Gud har gjort, fra Begyndelsen indtil Enden.
He hath made euery thing beautifull in his time: also he hath set the worlde in their heart, yet can not man finde out the worke that God hath wrought from the beginning euen to the end.
12 Jeg fornam, at det gode ikke staar til dem selv, men at man skal være glad og gøre godt i sit Liv;
I know that there is nothing good in them, but to reioyce, and to doe good in his life.
13 og tillige, at det, at ethvert Menneske æder og drikker og ser det gode i alt sit Arbejde, er en Guds Gave.
And also that euery man eateth and drinketh, and seeth the commoditie of all his labour. this is the gift of God.
14 Jeg fornam, at alt det, som Gud gør, skal blive evindelig, at man intet kan lægge til, og at man intet kan tage derfra; og at Gud gør det, for at de skulle frygte for hans Ansigt.
I knowe that whatsoeuer God shall doe, it shalbe for euer: to it can no man adde, and from it can none diminish: for God hath done it, that they should feare before him.
15 Det, som har været, havde allerede været, og det, som skal ske, har allerede været; og Gud søger det, som er fordrevet.
What is that that hath bene? that is nowe: and that that shalbe, hath now bene: for God requireth that which is past.
16 Og jeg saa ydermere under Solen Dommens Sted, der var Ugudeligheden, og Retfærdighedens Sted, der var Ugudeligheden.
And moreouer I haue seene vnder the sunne the place of iudgement, where was wickednesse, and the place of iustice where was iniquitie.
17 Jeg sagde i mit Hjerte: Gud vil dømme den retfærdige og den ugudelige; thi der er en Tid for enhver Idræt og Tid fastsat hisset over al Gerning.
I thought in mine heart, God wil iudge the iust and the wicked: for time is there for euery purpose and for euery worke.
18 Jeg sagde i mit Hjerte: Dette sker for Menneskens Børns Skyld, for at Gud kan lutre dem, og at de maa se, at de i og for sig ere Dyr.
I considered in mine heart the state of the children of men that God had purged them: yet to see to, they are in themselues as beastes.
19 Thi hvad, som hændes Menneskens Børn, det hændes og Dyrene, og ens hændes dem begge; som disse dø, saa dø og hine, og de have alle en Aand, og Mennesket har intet Fortrin fremfor Dyret; thi alt er Forfængelighed.
For the condition of the children of men, and the condition of beasts are euen as one condition vnto them. As the one dyeth, so dyeth the other: for they haue all one breath, and there is no excellency of man aboue ye beast: for all is vanitie.
20 De fare alle til et Sted; de ere alle komne af Støv, og de vende alle tilbage til Støv.
All goe to one place, and all was of the dust, and all shall returne to the dust.
21 Hvo kender Menneskens Børns Aand, den som farer opad, og Dyrets Aand, den som farer ned ad til Jorden?
Who knoweth whether the spirit of man ascend vpward, and the spirit of the beast descend downeward to the earth?
22 Og jeg saa, at intet er bedre, end at et Menneske er glad i sine Gerninger; thi det er hans Del; thi hvo vil bringe ham til at se paa det, som skal komme efter ham?
Therefore I see that there is nothing better then that a man shoulde reioyce in his affaires, because that is his portion. For who shall bring him to see what shalbe after him?
