1 Tesalonickým 3
1 Když se mi po vás v Aténách stýskalo, rozhodl jsem se poslat Timotea, toho milého bratra a Božího spoluslužebníka. Měl vás navštívit a povzbudit vaši víru,
Wherefore, when we could no longer forbear, we chose to be left at Athens alone,
and sent Timothy, our brother and a fellow-laborer with God in the gospel of Christ, to establish you, and to encourage you in your faith,
3 abyste v pronásledování nezakolísali.
so that no one should be shaken by these afflictions; for yourselves know that to this we are appointed;
4 Trpět patří ke křesťanskému údělu; to jsme vám přece říkali už od začátku, a tak nebuďte překvapeni, když k tomu opravdu dochází.
for even when we were with you, we told you before that we are to suffer affliction, just as it came to pass, and ye know.
5 Proto jsem tehdy poslal Timotea k vám, abych se tu nemusel trápit úzkostí, jestli vás protivník přece jen nedostal na svou návnadu a nepřivedl všechnu naši práci vniveč.
For this cause, when I too could no longer forbear, I sent in order to know your faith, lest by some means the tempter might have tempted you, and our labor should prove in vain.
6 Teď se však právě Timoteus vrátil s dobrými zprávami, že jste ve víře ani v lásce nepolevili, že na nás stále myslíte a toužíte po novém setkání stejně jako my.
But when Timothy just now came to us from you, and brought us good tidings of your faith and love, and that ye have good remembrance of us always, desiring greatly to see us, as we also to see you;
7 A tak nás při všech těch trampotách tady potěšily zprávy o vaší věrnosti Pánu. Vydržíme všechno, jen když víme, že s vaší vírou je vše v pořádku.
for this cause, brethren, we were comforted over you in all our distress and affliction by your faith;
for now we live, if ye stand fast in the Lord.
9 Jak se Bohu odvděčit za všechnu tu radost, jakou z vás máme?
For what thanks can we render to God for you, for all the joy wherewith we rejoice for your sakes before our God;
10 Dnem i nocí vroucně prosíme, abychom vás mohli znovu spatřit a podle potřeby upevnit vaši víru.
night and day praying exceedingly that we may see your face, and may supply that which is lacking in your faith?
11 Přejeme si, aby nám Bůh, náš Otec, a Ježíš, náš Pán, připravili cestu k vám!
Now God himself, our Father, and our Lord Jesus direct our way to you;
12 Ať dá bohatě růst vaší lásce navzájem i navenek, stejně jako naší lásce k vám.
and the Lord make you to increase and abound in love toward one another and toward all, even as we do in love toward you;
13 Ať vás vnitřně posílí, abyste se mohli bezúhonní a dokonalí postavit před Boha, našeho Otce, až se náš Pán, Ježíš Kristus, vrátí se všemi svými.
in order that he may establish your hearts unblamable in holiness before God, our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his holy ones.
