Titovi 1
1 Pavel, služebník Boží, apoštol pak Ježíše Krista, podle víry vyvolených Božích a známosti pravdy, kteráž jest podle zbožnosti,
Paul a seruaunt of God, and an Apostle of Iesus Christ, according to the faith of Gods elect, and the acknowledging of the trueth, which is according vnto godlines,
2 K naději života věčného, kterýž zaslíbil před časy věků ten, jenž nikdy neklamá, Bůh, zjevil pak časy svými, (aiōnios g166)
Vnto the hope of eternall life, which God that cannot lie, hath promised before the world began: (aiōnios g166)
3 Totiž to slovo své, skrze kázání mně svěřené, podle zřízení Spasitele našeho Boha, Titovi, vlastnímu synu u víře obecné:
But hath made his worde manifest in due time through the preaching, which is committed vnto me, according to the commandement of God our Sauiour:
4 Milost, milosrdenství a pokoj od Boha Otce a Pána Jezukrista Spasitele našeho.
To Titus my naturall sonne according to the common faith, Grace, mercie and peace from God the Father, and from the Lord Iesus Christ our Sauiour.
5 Z té příčiny zanechal jsem tebe v Krétě, abys to, čehož tam ještě potřebí, spravil a ustanovil po městech starší, jakož i já při tobě jsem zřídil:
For this cause left I thee in Creta, that thou shouldest continue to redresse the thinges that remaine, and shouldest ordeine Elders in euery citie, as I appointed thee,
6 Jest-li kdo bez úhony, jedné manželky muž, dítky maje věřící, na kteréž by nemohlo touženo býti, že by byli bujní, anebo nepoddaní.
If any be vnreproueable, the husband of one wife, hauing faithfull children, which are not slandered of riot, neither are disobedient.
7 Neboť biskup má býti bez úhony, jako Boží šafář, ne svémyslný, ne hněvivý, ne pijan vína, ne bijce, ne žádostivý mrzkého zisku,
For a Bishop must bee vnreproueable, as Gods steward, not froward, not angrie, not giuen to wine, no striker, not giuen to filthie lucre,
8 Ale přívětivý k hostem, dobrotivý, opatrný, spravedlivý, svatý, zdrželivý,
But harberous, one that loueth goodnesse, wise, righteous, holy, temperate,
9 Pilně se přídržící věrné řeči v učení Božím, aby mohl i napomínati učením zdravým, i ty, kteříž odpírají, přemáhati.
Holding fast that faithfull worde according to doctrine, that he also may bee able to exhort with wholesome doctrine, and conuince them that say against it.
10 Neboť jsou mnozí nepoddaní, marnomluvní, i svůdcové myslí lidských, zvláště ti, jenž jsou z obřízky.
For there are many disobedient and vaine talkers and deceiuers of mindes, chiefly they of the Circumcision,
11 Jimž musejí ústa zacpána býti; kteříž celé domy převracejí, učíce neslušným věcem, pro mrzký zisk.
Whose mouthes must bee stopped, which subuert whole houses, teaching things, which they ought not, for filthie lucres sake.
12 Řekl jeden z nich, vlastní jejich prorok, že Kretenští jsou vždycky lháři, zlá hovada, břicha lenivá.
One of themselues, euen one of their owne prophets said, The Cretians are alwaies liars, euill beastes, slowe bellies.
13 Svědectví to pravé jest. A protož tresciž je přísně, ať jsou zdraví u víře,
This witnesse is true: wherefore conuince them sharply, that they may be sound in ye faith,
14 Nešetříce Židovských básní, a přikázání lidí těch, jenž se odvracují od pravdy.
And not taking heede to Iewish fables and commandements of men, that turne away from the trueth.
15 Všecko zajisté čisté jest čistým, poskvrněným pak a nevěřícím nic není čistého, ale poskvrněná jest i mysl jejich i svědomí.
Vnto the pure are all things pure, but vnto them that are defiled, and vnbeleeuing, is nothing pure, but euen their mindes and consciences are defiled.
16 Vypravují o tom, že Boha znají, ale skutky svými toho zapírají, ohavní jsouce, a nepoddaní, a ke všelikému skutku dobrému nehodní.
They professe that they know God, but by works they deny him, and are abominable and disobedient, and vnto euery good worke reprobate.
