1 Èlověk, kterýž často kárán bývaje, zatvrzuje šíji, rychle potřín bude, tak že neprospěje žádné lékařství.
He that being often reproved hardeneth his neck shall suddenly be broken, and that without remedy.
2 Když se množí spravedliví, veselí se lid; ale když panuje bezbožník, vzdychá lid.
When the righteous are increased, the people rejoice; but when the wicked beareth rule, the people sigh.
3 Muž, kterýž miluje moudrost, obveseluje otce svého; ale kdož se přitovaryšuje k nevěstkám, mrhá statek.
Whoso loveth wisdom rejoiceth his father; but he that keepeth company with harlots wasteth his substance.
4 Král soudem upevňuje zemi, muž pak, kterýž béře dary, boří ji.
The king by justice establisheth the land; but he that exacteth gifts overthroweth it.
5 Èlověk, kterýž pochlebuje příteli svému, rozprostírá sít před nohama jeho.
A man that flattereth his neighbour spreadeth a net for his steps.
6 Výstupek bezbožného jest jemu osídlem, spravedlivý pak prozpěvuje a veselí se.
In the transgression of an evil man there is a snare; but the righteous doth sing and rejoice.
7 Spravedlivý vyrozumívá při nuzných, ale bezbožník nemá s to rozumnosti ani umění.
The righteous taketh knowledge of the cause of the poor; the wicked understandeth not knowledge.
8 Muži posměvači zavozují město, ale moudří odvracují hněv.
Scornful men set a city in a blaze; but wise men turn away wrath.
9 Muž moudrý, kterýž se nesnadní s mužem bláznivým, buď že se pohne, buď že se směje, nemá pokoje.
If a wise man contendeth with a foolish man, whether he be angry or laugh, there will be no rest.
10 Vražedlníci v nenávisti mají upřímého, ale upřímí pečují o duši jeho.
The men of blood hate him that is sincere; and as for the upright, they seek his life.
11 Všecken duch svůj vypouští blázen, ale moudrý na potom zdržuje jej.
A fool spendeth all his spirit; but a wise man stilleth it within him.
12 Pána toho, kterýž rád poslouchá slov lživých, všickni služebníci jsou bezbožní.
If a ruler hearkeneth to falsehood, all his servants are wicked.
13 Chudý a dráč potkávají se, obou dvou však oči osvěcuje Hospodin.
The poor man and the oppressor meet together; the LORD giveth light to the eyes of them both.
14 Krále toho, kterýž soudí právě nuzné, trůn na věky bývá utvrzen.
The king that faithfully judgeth the poor, his throne shall be established for ever.
15 Metla a kárání dává moudrost, ale dítě sobě volné k hanbě přivodí matku svou.
The rod and reproof give wisdom; but a child left to himself causeth shame to his mother.
16 Když se rozmnožují bezbožní, rozmnožuje se převrácenost, a však spravedliví spatřují pád jejich.
When the wicked are increased, transgression increaseth; but the righteous shall gaze upon their fall.
17 Tresci syna svého, a přineseť odpočinutí, a způsobí rozkoš duši tvé.
Correct thy son, and he will give thee rest; yea, he will give delight unto thy soul.
18 Když nebývá vidění, rozptýlen bývá lid; kdož pak ostříhá zákona, blahoslavený jest.
Where there is no vision, the people cast off restraint; but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.
19 Slovy nebývá napraven služebník; nebo rozuměje, však neodpoví.
A servant will not be corrected by words; for though he understand, there will be no response.
20 Spatřil-li bys člověka, an jest kvapný v věcech svých, lepší jest naděje o bláznu, než o takovém.
Seest thou a man that is hasty in his words? there is more hope for a fool than for him.
21 Kdo rozkošně chová z dětinství služebníka svého, naposledy bude syn.
He that delicately bringeth up his servant from a child shall have him become master at the last.
22 Èlověk hněvivý vzbuzuje svár, a prchlivý mnoho hřeší.
An angry man stirreth up strife, and a wrathful man aboundeth in transgression.
23 Pýcha člověka snižuje jej, ale chudý duchem dosahuje slávy.
A man's pride shall bring him low; but he that is of a lowly spirit shall attain to honour.
24 Kdo má spolek s zlodějem, v nenávisti má duši svou; zlořečení slyší, však neoznámí.
Whoso is partner with a thief hateth his own soul: he heareth the adjuration and uttereth nothing.
25 Strašlivý člověk klade sobě osídlo, ale kdo doufá v Hospodina, bývá povýšen.
The fear of man bringeth a snare; but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be set up on high.
26 Mnozí hledají tváři pánů, ješto od Hospodina jest soud jednoho každého.
Many seek the ruler's favour; but a man's judgment cometh from the LORD.
27 Ohavností spravedlivým jest muž nepravý, ohavností pak bezbožnému, kdož upřímě kráčí.
An unjust man is an abomination to the righteous; and he that is upright in the way is an abomination to the wicked.
