Jakubův 1
1 Jakub, Boží a Pána Jezukrista služebník, dvanácteru pokolení rozptýlenému pozdravení vzkazuje.
James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes who are scattered abroad, greeting.
2 Za největší radost mějte, bratří moji, kdyžkoli pokušeními obkličováni býváte rozličnými,
My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into various temptations;
3 Vědouce, že zkušení víry vaší působí trpělivost.
Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.
4 Trpělivost pak ať má dokonalý skutek, abyste byli dokonalí a celí, v ničemž nemajíce nedostatku.
But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.
5 Jestliže pak komu z vás nedostává se moudrosti, žádejž jí od Boha, kterýž všechněm dává ochotně a neomlouvá; i budeť jemu dána.
If any of you lacketh wisdom, let him ask of God, who giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given to him.
6 Žádejž pak důvěrně, nic nepochybuje. Nebo kdož pochybuje, podoben jest vlnám mořským, kteréž vítr sem i tam žene, a jimi zmítá.
But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
7 Nedomnívej se zajisté člověk ten, by co vzíti měl ode Pána,
For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing from the Lord.
8 Jakožto muž dvojí mysli a neustavičný ve všech cestách svých.
A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.
9 Chlubiž se pak bratr ponížený v povýšení svém,
Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted:
10 A bohatý v ponížení se; nebo jako květ byliny pomine.
But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.
11 Nebo jakož slunce vzešlé s horkostí usušilo bylinu, a květ její spadl, i ušlechtilost postavy jeho zhynula, takť i bohatý v svých cestách usvadne.
For the sun hath no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withereth the grass, and its flower falleth, and the grace of its fashion perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways.
12 Ale blahoslavený muž, kterýž snáší pokušení, nebo když bude zkušen, vezme korunu života, kterouž zaslíbil Pán těm, jenž ho milují.
Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.
13 Žádný, když bývá pokoušín, neříkej, že by od Boha pokoušín byl; neboť Bůh nemůže pokoušín býti ve zlém, aniž on koho pokouší.
Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted by God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:
14 Ale jeden každý pokoušín bývá, od svých vlastních žádostí jsa zachvacován a oklamáván.
But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away by his own lust, and enticed.
15 Potom žádost když počne, porodí hřích, hřích pak vykonaný zplozuje smrt.
Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
16 Nebluďtež, bratří moji milí.
Do not err, my beloved brethren.
17 Všeliké dání dobré a každý dar dokonalý shůry jest sstupující od Otce světel, u něhožto není proměnění, ani jakého pro obrácení se někam jinam zastínění.
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
18 On proto, že chtěl, zplodil nás slovem pravdy, k tomu, abychom byli prvotiny nějaké stvoření jeho.
Of his own will he hath begotten us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.
19 A tak, bratří moji milí, budiž každý člověk rychlý k slyšení, ale zpozdilý k mluvení, zpozdilý k hněvu.
Therefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:
20 Nebo hněv muže spravedlnosti Boží nepůsobí.
For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.
21 Protož odvrhouce všelikou nečistotu, a ohyzdnost zlosti, s tichostí přijímejte vsáté slovo, kteréž může spasiti duše vaše.
Therefore put away all filthiness and all that remains of wickedness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.
22 Buďtež pak činitelé slova, a ne posluchači toliko, oklamávajíce sami sebe.
But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
23 Nebo byl-li by kdo posluchač slova, a ne činitel, ten podoben jest muži spatřujícímu obličej přirozený svůj v zrcadle.
For if any is a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like a man beholding his natural face in a mirror:
24 Vzhlédl se zajisté, i odšel, a hned zapomenul, jaký by byl.
For he beholdeth himself, and goeth away, and immediately forgetteth what manner of man he was.
25 Ale kdož by se vzhlédl v dokonalý zákon svobody a zůstával by v něm, ten nejsa posluchač zapominatelný, ale činitel skutku, ten, pravím, blahoslavený bude v skutku svém.
But he who looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth in it, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
26 Zdá-li se pak komu z vás, že jest nábožný, avšak v uzdu nepojímá jazyka svého, ale svodí srdce své, takového marné jest náboženství.
If any man among you seemeth to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion is vain.
27 Náboženství čisté a neposkvrněné před Bohem a Otcem totoť jest: Navštěvovati sirotky a vdovy v souženích jejich a ostříhati sebe neposkvrněného od světa.
Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.
