1 Nebuďtež mnozí mistři, bratří moji, vědouce, že bychom těžší odsouzení vzali.
Not many [of you] teachers do become brothers of mine, knowing that greater judgment we will receive.
2 V mnohém zajisté klesáme všickni. Kdožť neklesá v slovu, tenť jest dokonalý muž, mohoucí jako uzdou spravovati všecko tělo.
In many ways for we stumble all; If anyone in what he says not does stumble, this one [is] a perfect man, able to bridle indeed all the body.
3 An my koně v uzdu pojímáme, aby nám povolni byli, a vším tělem jejich vládneme.
(If *NO*) (now *N(K)(o)*) of the horses bits into the mouths we put (for *N(k)O*) to obey them us, even all the body of them we turn about.
4 An i lodí tak veliké jsouce a prudkými větry hnány bývajíce, však i nejmenším veslem bývají sem i tam obracíny, kamžkoli líbí se tomu, kdož je spravuje.
Behold also the ships, so great being and by winds strong being driven, are turned about by a very small rudder where (ever *k*) the impulse [of the one] who is steering (decides. *N(k)O*)
5 Tak i jazyk malý úd jest, avšak veliké věci provodí. Aj, maličký oheň, kterak veliký les zapálí!
Thus also the tongue a small member is and exceeding things it boasts. Behold (a great *N(k)O*) fire how great a forest it kindles;
6 A jestiť jazyk jako oheň a svět nepravosti. Takť jest, pravím, postaven jazyk mezi údy našimi, nanečišťující celé tělo, a rozpalující kolo narození našeho, jsa rozněcován od ohně pekelného. (Geenna g1067)
Also the tongue [is] a fire, the world of iniquity (thus *k*) The tongue is set among the members of us which is defiling all the body and setting on fire the course of nature and [itself] being set on fire by hell. (Geenna g1067)
7 Všeliké zajisté přirození i zvěři, i ptactva, i hadů, i mořských potvor bývá zkroceno, a jest okroceno od lidí;
All for kinds of beasts both and of birds, of creeping things both and things of the sea is subdued and he has been subdued by the race human;
8 Ale jazyka žádný z lidí zkrotiti nemůže; tak jest nezkrotitelné zlé, pln jsa jedu smrtelného.
the but tongue no [one] to subdue is able of men; ([it is] an unruly *N(k)O*) evil, full of poison deadly.
9 Jím dobrořečíme Bohu Otci a jím zlořečíme lidem, ku podobenství Božímu stvořeným.
With it we bless the (Lord *N(K)O*) and Father and with it we curse men those according to [the] likeness of God having been made;
10 Z jedněch a týchž úst pochází dobrořečení i zlořečení. Ne takť býti má, bratří moji.
Out of the same mouth proceed forth blessing and cursing. Not ought, brothers of Mine, these things so to be.
11 Zdaliž studnice jedním pramenem vydává sladkou i hořkou vodu?
surely not ever the spring out of the same opening pours forth [both] fresh and bitter?
12 Zdaliž může, bratří moji, fíkový strom nésti olivky, aneb vinný kmen fíky? Takť žádná studnice slané a sladké vody spolu vydávati nemůže.
Surely not is able, brothers of mine, a fig tree olives to produce Or a vine figs? (thus *k*) (Nor *N(k)O*) (spring *K*) of salt (and *k*) fresh to produce water.
13 Kdo jest moudrý a umělý mezi vámi? Ukažiž dobrým obcováním skutky své v krotké moudrosti.
Who [is] wise and understanding among you? he should show out of the good conduct the works of him in [the] humility of wisdom.
14 Pakliť máte mezi sebou hořkou závist a zdráždění v srdci svém, nechlubte se a neklamejte proti pravdě.
If however jealousy bitter you have and self-interest in the heart of you, not do boast [of it] and do lie against the truth.
15 Neníť zajisté ta moudrost shůry sstupující, ale jest zemská, hovadná a ďábelská.
Not is this the wisdom from above coming down, but [is] earthly unspiritual demonic.
16 Nebo kdežť jest závist a rozdráždění, tu jest roztržka a všeliké dílo zlé.
Where for jealousy and self-interest [exist], there [will be] disorder and every evil thing.
17 Ale moudrost, kteráž jest shůry, nejprve zajisté jest čistotná, potom pokojná, mírná, povolná, plná milosrdenství a ovoce dobrého, bez rozsuzování a bez pokrytství.
But the from above wisdom first indeed pure is, then peaceable, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and of fruits good, impartial, (and *k*) sincere.
18 Ovoce pak spravedlnosti v pokoji rozsívá se těm, kteříž pokoj působí.
[The] fruit moreover (*k*) of righteousness in peace is sown by those making peace.
