1 Všeliký zajisté nejvyšší kněz z lidu vzatý za lidi bývá postaven v těch věcech, kteréž u Boha mají jednány býti, totiž aby obětoval i dary i oběti za hříchy,
For every high priest, having been taken from among men, is appointed on behalf of men toward the things which pertain to God, so that he may offer gifts and sacrifices on behalf of sins;
2 Kterýž by mohl, jakž sluší, lítost míti nad neznajícími a bloudícími, jsa i sám obklíčen nemocí.
he is able to commiserate with those who are ignorant and who wander astray, because he himself is also encompassed by infirmity.
3 A pro ni povinen jest, jakož za lid, tak i za sebe samého obětovati oběti za hříchy.
And because of this, he also must make such offerings for sins even for himself, in the same manner as for the people.
4 A aniž kdo sobě sám té cti osobuje, ale ten, kterýž by byl povolán od Boha, jako i Aron.
Neither does anyone take up this honor himself, but rather he who is called by God, just as Aaron was.
5 Tak i Kristus ne sám sobě té cti osobil, aby byl nejvyšším knězem, ale ten, kterýž řekl jemu: Syn můj jsi ty, já dnes zplodil jsem tebe.
Thus, even Christ did not glorify himself, so as to become High Priest, but instead, it was God who said to him: “You are my Son. Today I have begotten you.”
6 Jakž i jinde praví: Ty jsi kněz na věky podle řádu Melchisedechova. (aiōn )
And similarly, he says in another place: “You are a priest forever, according to the order of Melchizedek.” (aiōn )
7 Kterýž za dnů těla svého modlitby a ponížené prosby k tomu, kterýž ho mohl zachovati od smrti, s křikem velikým a slzami obětoval, a uslyšán jest i vysvobozen z toho, čehož se strašil.
It is Christ who, in the days of his flesh, with a strong cry and tears, offered prayers and supplications to the One who was able to save him from death, and who was heard because of his reverence.
8 A ačkoli byl Syn Boží, z toho však, což strpěl, naučil se poslušenství.
And although, certainly, he is the Son of God, he learned obedience by the things that he suffered.
9 A tak dokonalý jsa, učiněn jest všechněm sebe poslušným původem spasení věčného, (aiōnios )
And having reached his consummation, he was made, for all who are obedient to him, the cause of eternal salvation, (aiōnios )
10 Nazván jsa od Boha nejvyšším knězem podlé řádu Melchisedechova.
having been called by God to be the High Priest, according to the order of Melchizedek.
11 O kterémž mnoho by se mělo mluviti, a to nesnadných věci k vypravení, ale vy jste nezpůsobných uší.
Our message about him is great, and difficult to explain when speaking, because you have been made feeble when listening.
12 Nebo měvše býti v tak dlouhém času mistři, opět potřebujete učeni býti prvním počátkům výmluvností Božích, a učiněni jste mléka potřebující, a ne pokrmu hrubšího.
For even though it is the time when you ought to be teachers, you are still lacking, so that you must be taught the things that are the basic elements of the Word of God, and so you have been made like those who are in need of milk, and not of solid food.
13 Kdožkoli zajisté mléka se drží, nechápá slova spravedlnosti; (nebo nemluvně jest).
For anyone who is still feeding on milk is still unskillful in the Word of Justice; for he is like an infant.
14 Ale dokonalých jest hrubý pokrm, totiž těch, kteříž pro zvyklost mají smysly způsobné k rozeznání dobrého i zlého.
But solid food is for those who are mature, for those who, by practice, have sharpened their mind, so as to discern good from evil.
