Galatským 5
1 Protož v svobodě, kterouž Kristus nás osvobodil, stůjte a nezapletejtež se zase v jho služebnosti.
With her freedom, Christ hath made you, free. Stand fast, therefore, and do not, again, with a yoke of servitude, be held fast!
2 Aj, já Pavel pravím vám, že budete-li se obřezovati, Kristus vám nic neprospěje.
See! I, Paul, say unto you—if ye be getting circumcised, Christ will profit you, nothing.
3 A zase osvědčuji všelikému člověku, kterýž se obřezuje, že jest povinen všecken Zákon naplniti.
Yea, I bear solemn witness again, unto every man getting circumcised, —that he is, a debtor, to do, the whole law.
4 Odcizili jste se Krista, kteřížkoli v Zákoně ospravedlněni býti hledáte; vypadli jste z milosti.
Ye have been set aside from Christ, ye who, by law, are to be declared righteous, —out of his favour, ye have fallen;
5 My zajisté duchem z víry, naděje spravedlnosti očekáváme.
For, we, in Spirit, by faith, for a hope of righteousness, are ardently waiting, —
6 Nebo v Kristu Ježíši ani obřízka neprospívá, ani neobřízka, ale víra skrze lásku dělající.
For, in Christ [Jesus], neither, circumcision, availeth anything, nor uncircumcision, but faith, through love, energising.
7 Běželi jste dobře. Kdo jest vám překazil, abyste pravdy neposlouchali?
Ye were running well: —who hath hindered you, that, by truth, ye are not to be persuaded?
8 Neníť ta rada z toho, kterýž vás volá.
The persuasion, [is] not of him that calleth you: —
9 Maličko kvasu všecko těsto nakvašuje.
A little leaven, leaveneth, the whole lump.
10 Jáť mám naději o vás v Pánu, že nic jiného smýšleti nebudete; ale ten, jenž kormoutí vás, trpěti bude soud, kdožť jest on koli.
I, am persuaded regarding you, in the Lord—that, for nothing else, ye will have any regard; but, he that is troubling you, shall bear the sentence, —whosoever he may be.
11 Já pak, bratří, káži-li také obřízku, i pročež protivenství trpím? Tedy jest vyprázdněno pohoršení kříže.
I, however, brethren—if, circumcision, I yet proclaim, why am I yet persecuted? After all, the stumbling-block of the cross hath been set aside.
12 Ó by raději odřezáni byli, kteříž vás nepokojí.
Oh! that they would even leave off in dismay, who are unsettling you!
13 Nebo vy v svobodu povoláni jste, bratří, toliko abyste té svobody nepokládali sobě za zámysl povolování tělu, ale skrze lásku posluhujte sobě vespolek.
For, ye, on a footing of freedom, were called, brethren, —only, [turn] not your freedom into an occasion to the flesh, but, by means of your love, be serving one another;
14 Nebo všecken Zákon v jednom slovu se zavírá, totiž v tom: Milovati budeš bližního svého jako sebe samého.
For, the whole law, in one word, is summed up—[namely] in this, —Thou shall love thy neighbour as thyself.
15 Pakli se vespolek koušete a žerete, hleďtež, abyste jedni od druhých zkaženi nebyli.
If, however, one another, ye bite and devour, take heed lest, by one another, ye be consumed!
16 Ale pravímť: Duchem choďte, a žádosti těla nevykonáte.
I say, moreover—by Spirit, be walking, and, fleshly coveting, ye will in nowise fulfil;
17 Nebo tělo žádá proti Duchu, a Duch proti tělu. Ty pak věci jsou sobě vespolek odporné, tak abyste ne hned, což byste chtěli, to činili.
For, the flesh, coveted against the Spirit, but, the Spirit, against the flesh, —for, these, unto one another, are opposed, lest, whatsoever things ye chance to desire, these, ye should be doing!
18 Jestliže pak Duchem vedeni býváte, nejste pod Zákonem.
And, if, by Spirit, ye are being led, ye are not under law.
19 Zjevníť jsou pak skutkové těla, jenž jsou: Cizoložstvo, smilstvo, nečistota, chlipnost,
Manifest, however, are the works of the flesh, which, indeed, are—fornication, impurity, wantonness,
20 Modloslužba, čarování, nepřátelství, svárové, nenávisti, hněvové, dráždění, různice, sekty,
idolatry, enchantment, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of wrath, factions, divisions, parties,
21 Závisti, vraždy, opilství, hodování, a těm podobné věci. Kteréžto kdožkoli činí, toť vám předpovídám, jakož jsem i prve pravil, že království Božího dědicové nebudou.
envyings, drunkenness, revellings; —and such things as these: as to which I forewarn you, even as I have forewarned you, —that, they who such things as these do practise, shall not inherit, God’s kingdom.
22 Ovoce pak Ducha jestiť: Láska, radost, pokoj, tichost, dobrotivost, dobrota, věrnost, krotkost, středmost.
But, the fruit of the Spirit, is—love, joy, peace, long-suffering, graciousness, goodness, faithfulness,
23 Proti takovýmť není Zákon.
meekness, self-control; —against such things as these, there is no law.
24 Nebo kteříž jsou Kristovi, tiť jsou tělo své ukřižovali s vášněmi a s žádostmi.
And, they who are of Christ Jesus, have crucified, the flesh, with its susceptibilities and covetings.
25 Jsme-liť tedy Duchem živi, Duchem i choďme.
If we live by Spirit, by Spirit, let us also walk.
26 Nebývejme marné chvály žádostivi, jedni druhých popouzejíce a jedni druhým závidíce.
Let us not become vain-glorious, —one another, challenging, one another, envying.
