1 Tedy řekl nejvyšší kněz: Jest-liž to tak?
And the High-priest said—Are these things, so?
2 A on řekl: Muži bratří a otcové, slyšte. Bůh slávy ukázal se otci našemu Abrahamovi, když byl v Mezopotamii, prve než bydlil v Cháran.
And, he, said—Brethren and fathers, hearken! The God of Glory, appeared unto our father Abraham, while he was in Mesopotamia, before he dwelt in Haran, —
3 A řekl k němu: Vyjdi z země své a z příbuznosti své, a pojď do země, kterouž ukáži tobě.
And said unto him—Get thee forth, out of thy land, and from among thy kindred, and come unto the land which, unto thee, I will point out.
4 Tedy vyšel z země Kaldejské a bydlil v Cháran. A odtud, když umřel otec jeho, přestěhoval jej do země této, v kteréžto vy nyní bydlíte.
Then, coming forth out of the land of the Chaldeans, he dwelt in Haran; and, from thence, when his father was dead, he removed him into this land, in which, ye, now dwell;
5 A nedal jemu dědictví v ní, ani šlépěje nožné, ač byl jemu ji slíbil dáti k vladařství, i semeni jeho po něm, když ještě neměl dědice.
And gave him no inheritance therein, not even a place to set his foot on; and yet promised to give it unto him in possession, and unto his seed after him, when as yet he had not a child.
6 Mluvil pak jemu Bůh takto: Budeť símě tvé pohostinu v zemi cizí, a bude v službu podrobeno, a zle s ním budou nakládati za čtyři sta let.
But God, spake thus—His seed shall be a sojourner in a foreign land, and they will bring it into bondage, and ill-treat it four-hundred years;
7 Ale národ ten, jemuž sloužiti budou, já souditi budu, pravíť Bůh. A potom zase vyjdou, a sloužiti mi budou na tomto místě.
And, the nation unto which they shall be in bondage, will, I, judge—said God; and, after these things, shall they come forth, and render divine service unto me, in this place.
8 I vydal jemu smlouvu obřízky. A tak on zplodil Izáka, a obřezal jej osmého dne, a Izák zplodil Jákoba, a Jákob
And he gave unto him a covenant of circumcision; and, thus, he begat Isaac, and circumcised him on the eighth day, and Isaac, Jacob, and Jacob, the twelve patriarchs.
9 A patriarchové v nenávisti měvše Jozefa, prodali jej do Egypta. Ale Bůh byl s ním,
And, the patriarchs, being jealous of Joseph, gave him up into Egypt; and, God, was, with him,
10 A vysvobodil ho ze všech úzkostí jeho, a dal jemu milost a moudrost před tváří faraona, krále Egyptského, takže ho učinil úředníkem nad Egyptem a nade vším domem svým.
And rescued him out of all his tribulations, and gave him favour and wisdom before Pharaoh king of Egypt; and he appointed him governor over Egypt and all his house.
11 Potom přišel hlad na všecku zemi Egyptskou i Kananejskou, a soužení veliké, aniž měli pokrmů otcové naši.
And there came a famine upon all Egypt and Canaan, and great tribulation, and our fathers could not find pasture.
12 A uslyšev Jákob, že by obilé bylo v Egyptě, poslal tam otce naše nejprve.
But Jacob, hearing there was corn in Egypt, sent off our fathers, first;
13 A když je poslal po druhé, poznán jest Jozef od bratří svých, a zjevena jest rodina Jozefova faraonovi.
And, the second time, Joseph was made known unto his brethren, and, the race of Joseph was made, manifest, unto Pharaoh.
14 Tedy poslav Jozef posly, přistěhoval otce svého Jákoba, i všecku rodinu svou v osobách sedmdesáti a pěti.
And Joseph, sending forth, called for Jacob his father, and all the kindred, consisting of seventy-five souls;
15 I vstoupil Jákob do Egypta, a tam umřel on i otcové naši.
And Jacob went down [into Egypt]. And he died, he, and our fathers;
16 I přeneseni jsou do Sichem, a pochováni v hrobě, kterýž byl koupil Abraham za stříbro od synů Emorových, otce Sichemova.
And were brought over into Shechem, and laid in the tomb which Abraham had purchased, for a price of silver, of the sons of Hamor in Shechem.
17 Když se pak přibližoval čas zaslíbení, o kterémž byl přisáhl Bůh Abrahamovi, rostl lid a množil se v Egyptě,
Now, just as the time of the promise was drawing near wherewith God had agreed with Abraham, the people grew, and were multiplied in Egypt, —
18 Až vtom povstal jiný král, kterýž neznal Jozefa.
Until there arose another sort of king over Egypt, who had not known Joseph.
19 Ten lstivě nakládaje s pokolením naším, trápil otce naše, takže musili vyhazovati nemluvňátka svá, aby se nerozplozovali.
The same, dealing craftily with our race, ill-treated our fathers, so as to cause their babes to be exposed, to the end they might not be suffered to live.
20 V tom času narodil se Mojžíš, a byl velmi krásný, kterýžto chován jest za tři měsíce v domu otce svého.
In which season, Moses, was born, and was exceeding goodly, —who was nourished up three months in the house of his father;
21 A když vyložen byl na řeku, vzala jej dcera faraonova, a vychovala jej sobě za syna.
But, when he was exposed, the daughter of Pharaoh rescued him, and nourished him for herself, as a son.
22 I vyučen jest Mojžíš vší moudrosti Egyptské, a byl mocný v řečech i v skutcích.
And, so Moses was trained in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and was mighty in his words and works.
23 A když jemu bylo čtyřidceti let, vstoupilo na srdce jeho, aby navštívil bratří své, syny Izraelské.
And, when there was being fulfilled unto him a period of forty years, it came up on his heart to look after his brethren the sons of Israel;
24 A uzřev jednoho, an bezpráví trpí, zastal ho a pomstil toho, kterýž bezpráví trpěl, zabiv Egyptského.
And, seeing one being wronged, he defended him, and avenged him that was getting worn out, smiting the Egyptian.
25 Domníval se zajisté, že bratří jeho rozumějí tomu, že skrze ruku jeho chce jim dáti Bůh vysvobození, ale oni nerozuměli.
But he supposed his brethren would understand that, God, through his hand, would give them deliverance; whereas they understood not.
26 Druhého pak dne ukázal se jim, když se vadili, i chtěl je v pokoj uvésti, řka: Muži, bratří jste, i proč křivdu činíte sobě vespolek?
On the following day also, he appeared unto them, as they were contending, and would have reconciled them in peace, saying—Men! ye are, brothers! Wherefore wrong ye one another?
27 Ten pak, kterýž činil křivdu bližnímu svému, odehnal ho, řka: Kdo tě ustanovil knížetem a soudcím nad námi?
But, he that was wronging his neighbour, thrust him away, saying—Who hath appointed, thee, to be ruler and judge over us?
28 Což ty mne chceš zamordovati, jako jsi včera zabil Egyptského?
Art, thou, wishing, to kill me, in the same way thou didst kill, yesterday, the Egyptian?
29 I utekl Mojžíš pro ta slova a bydlil pohostinu v zemi Madianské, a tam zplodil dva syny.
And Moses fled at this saying, and became a sojourner in the land of Midian, where he begat two sons.
30 A když se vyplnilo let čtyřidceti, ukázal se jemu na poušti hory Sinai anděl Páně, v plameni ohně ve kři.
And, when forty years were fulfilled, there appeared unto him, in the desert of Mount Sinai, a messenger, in a flame of fire, in a bush.
31 A Mojžíš uzřev to, divil se tomu vidění. A když blíže přistoupil, aby to pilněji spatřil, stal se k němu hlas Páně:
And, Moses, seeing it, marvelled at the sight; and, as he was going near to observe, there came a voice of the Lord—
32 Jáť jsem Bůh otců tvých, Bůh Abrahamův a Bůh Izákův a Bůh Jákobův. I zhroziv se Mojžíš, neodvážil se patřiti.
I, am the God of thy fathers, The God of Abraham and Isaac and Jacob. And Moses becoming, terrified, durst not observe.
33 I řekl jemu Pán: Zzuj obuv s noh svých; nebo místo, na kterémž stojíš, země svatá jest.
And the Lord said unto him—Loose the sandals of thy feet; for, the place whereon thou art standing, is, hallowed ground.
34 Viděl jsem, viděl trápení lidu svého, kterýž jest v Egyptě, a vzdychání jejich uslyšel jsem a sstoupil jsem, abych je vysvobodil. Protož nyní pojď, pošli tě do Egypta.
I have, indeed seen, the ill-treatment of my people that is in Egypt, and, unto their groaning, have I hearkened, and have come down to rescue them. Now, therefore, come! I will send thee into Egypt.
35 Toho Mojžíše, kteréhož se odepřeli, řkouce: Kdo tě ustanovil knížetem a soudcí? tohoť jest Bůh kníže a vysvoboditele poslal, skrze ruku anděla, kterýž se jemu ukázal ve kři.
The same Moses whom they had refused, saying—Who hath appointed thee to be ruler and judge? the same, both as ruler and redeemer, did God send, by the hand of the messenger who had appeared unto him in the bush:
36 A ten je vyvedl, čině divy a zázraky v zemi Egyptské a na moři Èerveném, i na poušti za čtyřidceti let.
The same, led them forth, doing wonders and signs in Egypt, and in the Red Sea, and in the desert, forty years:
37 Toť jest ten Mojžíš, kterýž řekl synům Izraelským: Proroka vám vzbudí Pán Bůh váš z bratří vašich, podobně jako mne, toho poslouchejte.
The same, is the Moses that said unto the sons of Israel—A prophet, unto you, will God raise up, from among your brethren, like unto me:
38 Onť jest, kterýž byl mezi lidem na poušti s andělem, kterýž mluvíval k němu na hoře Sinai, i s otci našimi, kterýž přijal slova živá, aby je nám vydal.
The same, is he that came to be in the assembly in the desert, with the messenger who was speaking with him in Mount Sinai, and with our fathers, he who welcomed living utterances, to give unto us:
39 Jehož nechtěli poslušni býti otcové naši, ale zavrhli jej, a odvrátili se srdci svými do Egypta,
Unto whom, our fathers would not become obedient, but thrust him away, and turned in their hearts unto Egypt,
40 Řkouce k Aronovi: Učiň nám bohy, kteříž by šli před námi; nebo Mojžíšovi tomu, kterýž nás vyvedl z země Egyptské, nevíme, co se přihodilo.
Saying unto Aaron—Make as gods who shall go before us; for, as for this Moses who brought us forth out of Egypt, we know not what hath befallen him!
41 I udělali v těch dnech tele, a obětovali oběti modle, a veselili se v díle rukou svých.
And so they fell to calf-making in those days, and offered sacrifice unto the idol, and rejoiced in the works of their hands.
42 I odvrátil se od nich Bůh, a vydal je, aby sloužili vojsku nebeskému, jakož napsáno jest v knihách Prorockých: Zdaliž jste mi oběti aneb dary obětovali za čtyřidceti let na poušti, dome Izraelský?
But God, turned, and delivered them up to be doing divine service unto the host of heaven, —just as it is written in a book of the prophets—Victims and sacrifices did ye offer unto me, forty years in the desert, O house of Israel?
43 Nýbrž nosili jste stánek modly Moloch, a hvězdu boha vašeho Remfan, ta podobenství, kteráž jste zdělali sobě, abyste se jim klaněli. Protož přestěhuji vás za Babylon.
Nay! but ye took with you the tent of Moloch, and the star of the god Rephan, —the forms which ye made to bow down unto them: therefore will I carry you away beyond Babylon.
44 Stánek svědectví měli jsou otcové naši na poušti, jakož byl nařídil ten, jenž řekl Mojžíšovi, aby jej udělal, podle způsobu toho, kterýž byl viděl.
The tent of witness, was with our fathers in the desert, according as he who was speaking unto Moses, gave instructions, to make it, according to the model which he had seen.
45 Kterýžto přijavše otcové naši, vnesli jej s Jozue tam, kdež bylo prve vladařství pohanů, kteréž vyhnal Bůh od tváři otců našich, až do dnů Davida.
Which our fathers succeeding to, also brought in, with Joshua, when taking possession of the nations, which God put out from before our fathers until the days of David;
46 Jenž nalezl milost před obličejem Božím, a prosil, aby nalezl stánek Bohu Jákobovu.
Who found favour before God, and asked to find a habitation for the God of Jacob.
47 Šalomoun pak udělal jemu dům.
But, Solomon, built him a house.
48 Ale Nejvyšší nebydlí v domích rukou udělaných, jakož dí prorok:
Although indeed, the Most High, not in hand-made places, dwelleth; just as, the prophet, saith—
49 Nebe jest mi stolice a země podnož noh mých, i jakýž mi tedy dům uděláte? praví Pán. Anebo jaké jest místo odpočívání mého?
Heaven is my thrown, and, the earth, is my footstool: What manner of house, will ye build me, saith the Lord, —Or what shall be the place of my resting?
50 Zdaliž ruka má všeho toho neučinila?
Hath not, my hand, made all these things?
51 Tvrdošijní a neobřezaného srdce i uší, vy jste se vždycky Duchu svatému protivili, jakož otcové vaši, takž i vy.
Ye stiff-necked and uncircumcised in hearts and in ears, ye, always, against the Holy Spirit, do strive! As your fathers, ye also:
52 Kterému z proroků otcové vaši se neprotivili? Zmordovali zajisté ty, jenž předzvěstovali příchod spravedlivého tohoto, jehožto vy nyní zrádci a vražedníci jste.
Which of the prophets, did not your fathers persecute? Yea they slew them who declared beforehand concerning the coming of the Righteous One—of whom, now, ye, have become, betrayers and murderers!
53 Kteříž jste vzali Zákon působením andělským, a neostříhali jste ho.
Who, indeed, received the law through ranks of messengers, —and guarded it not.
54 Tedy slyšíce to, rozzlobili se v srdcích svých a škřipěli zuby na něho.
And, while they were hearing these things, they were being pierced in their hearts, and began gnashing their teeth against him.
55 On pak pln jsa Ducha svatého, pohleděv do nebe, uzřel slávu Boží a Ježíše stojícího na pravici Boží.
But he, being already full of Holy Spirit, looking steadfastly into heaven, saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God;
56 I řekl: Aj, vidím nebesa otevřená a Syna člověka stojícího na pravici Boží.
And said—Lo! I see the heavens opened, and the Son of Man, standing, on the right hand of God.
57 A oni zkřikše hlasem velikým, zacpali uši své, a obořili se jednomyslně na něj.
And, crying out with a loud voice, they held their ears, and rushed with one accord upon him;
58 A vyvedše jej z města, kamenovali ho. A svědkové složili roucha svá u noh mládence, kterýž sloul Saul.
And, thrusting him forth outside the city, proceeded to stone him. And, the witnesses, laid their garments at the feet of a young man named Saul.
59 I kamenovali Štěpána vzývajícího Boha a řkoucího: Pane Ježíši, přijmi ducha mého.
And they stoned Stephen, as he was invoking and saying—Lord Jesus! give welcome unto my spirit.
60 A poklek na kolena, zvolal hlasem velikým: Pane, nepokládej jim toho za hřích. A to pověděv, usnul v Pánu.
And, kneeling down, he cried out with a loud voice—Lord! do not charge against them, this sin. And, having said this, he fell asleep.
