1 Nejmilejší, již toto druhý list vám píši, v kterýchžto listech vzbuzuji skrze napomínání vaši upřímnou mysl,
This second epistle, my beloved, I now write to you; in both of which I stir up your honest mind by admonition:
2 Abyste pamatovali na slova předpověděná od svatých proroků, a na přikázání vydané vám od nás apoštolů Pána a Spasitele,
that ye may be mindful of the words which were formerly spoken by the holy prophets, and of the injunction of our Lord and Redeemer by the hand of the legates:
3 Toto nejprve vědouce, žeť přijdou v posledních dnech posměvači, podle svých vlastních žádostí chodící,
knowing this previously, that there will come in the last days scoffers, who will scoff, walking according to their own lusts;
4 A říkající: Kdež jest to zaslibování příchodu jeho? Nebo jakž otcové naši zesnuli, všecko tak trvá od počátku stvoření.
and saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for, since our fathers fell asleep, every thing remaineth just as from the beginning of the creation.
5 Tohoť zajisté z úmysla věděti nechtí, že nebesa již dávno slovem Božím byla učiněna, i země z vody a na vodě upevněna.
For this they willingly forget, that the heavens were of old; and the earth rose up from the waters, and by means of water, by the word of God.
6 Pročež onen první svět vodou jsa zatopen, zahynul.
And, by means of these waters, the world which then was, being submerged again perished in the waters.
7 Ta pak nebesa, kteráž nyní jsou, i země, týmž slovem odložena jsou a zachována k ohni, ke dni soudu a zatracení bezbožných lidí.
And the heavens that now are, and the earth, are by his word stored up, being reserved for the fire at the day of judgment and the perdition of wicked men.
8 Ale tato jedna věc nebudiž před vámi skryta, nejmilejší, že jeden den u Pána jest jako tisíc let, a tisíc let jako jeden den.
And of this one thing, my beloved, be not forgetful, That one day, to the Lord, is as a thousand years; and a thousand years, as one day.
9 Nemeškáť Pán s naplněním slibů, (jakož někteří za to mají, že obmeškává, ) ale shovívá nám, nechtě, aby kteří zahynuli, ale všickni ku pokání se obrátili.
The Lord doth not procrastinate his promises, as some estimate procrastination; but he is long suffering, for your sakes, being not willing that any should perish, but that every one should come to repentance.
10 Přijdeť zajisté den Páně, jako zloděj v noci, v kterémžto nebesa jako v prudkosti vichru pominou, a živlové pálivostí ohně rozplynou se, země pak i ty věci, kteréž jsou na ní, vypáleny budou.
And the day of the Lord will come, like a thief; in which the heavens will suddenly pass away; and the elements, being ignited, will be dissolved; and the earth and the works in it, will not be found.
11 Poněvadž tedy to všecko má se rozplynouti, jací pak vy býti máte v svatých obcováních a v zbožnosti,
As therefore all these things are to be dissolved, what persons ought ye to be, in holy conduct, and in the fear of God,
12 Očekávajíce a chvátajíce ku příští dne Božího, v němžto nebesa, hoříce, rozpustí se, a živlové pálivostí ohně rozplynou se?
expecting and desiring the coming of the day of God, in which the heavens being tried by fire will be dissolved, and the elements being ignited will melt?
13 Nového pak nebe a nové země podle zaslíbení jeho čekáme, v kterýchžto spravedlnost přebývá.
But we, according to his promise, expect new heavens, and a new earth, in which righteousness dwelleth.
14 Protož, nejmilejší, takových věcí čekajíce, snažtež se, abyste bez poskvrny a bez úhony před ním nalezeni byli v pokoji;
Therefore, my beloved, as ye expect these things, strive that ye may be found by him in peace, without spot and without blemish.
15 A Pána našeho dlouhočekání za spasení mějte, jakož i milý bratr náš Pavel, podle sobě dané moudrosti, psal vám,
And account the long suffering of the Lord to be redemption; as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom conferred on him, wrote to you;
16 Jako i ve všech epištolách svých, mluvě v nich o těch věcech. Mezi nimiž některé jsou nesnadné k vyrozumění, kterýchžto neučení a neutvrzení natahují, jako i jiných Písem, k svému vlastnímu zatracení.
as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things, in which there is something difficult to be understood; and which they who are ignorant and unstable, pervert, as they do also the rest of the scriptures, to their own destruction.
17 Vy tedy, nejmilejší, to prve vědouce, střeztež se, abyste bludem těch nešlechetných lidí nebyli pojati a nevypadli od své pevnosti.
Ye therefore, my beloved, as ye know these things beforehand, guard yourselves, lest, by going after the error of the lawless, ye fall from your steadfastness.
18 Ale rozmáhejtež se v milosti a v známosti Pána našeho a Spasitele Jezukrista, jemuž sláva i nyní i na časy věčné. Amen. (aiōn g165)
But be ye growing in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Redeemer Jesus the Messiah, and of God the Father: whose is the glory, now, and always, and to the days of eternity. Amen. (aiōn g165)
