Jób 22
1 A odpovídaje Elifaz Temanský, řekl:
And Eliphaz the Temanite answers and says:
2 Zdaliž Bohu silnému co prospěšný býti může člověk, když sobě nejmoudřeji počíná?
“Is a man profitable to God, Because a wise man is profitable to himself?
3 Zdaliž se kochá Všemohoucí v tom, že ty se ospravedlňuješ? Aneb má-liž zisk, když bys dokonalé ukázal býti cesty své?
Is it a delight to the Mighty One That you are righteous? Is it gain, That you make your ways perfect?
4 Zdali, že by se tebe bál, tresce tě, mstě nad tebou?
Because of your reverence Does He reason [with] you? He enters with you into judgment:
5 Zdali zlost tvá není mnohá? Anobrž není konce nepravostem tvým.
Is your wickedness not abundant? And there is no end to your iniquities.
6 Nebo jsi brával základ od bratří svých bez příčiny, a roucha z nahých jsi svláčel.
For you take a pledge of your brother for nothing, And you strip off the garments of the naked.
7 Vody ustalému jsi nepodal, a hladovitému zbraňovals chleba.
You do not cause the weary to drink water, And you withhold bread from the hungry.
8 Ale muži boháči přál jsi země, tak aby ten, jehož osoba vzácná, v ní seděl.
As for the man of arm—he has the earth, And the accepted of face—he dwells in it.
9 Vdovy pak pouštěl jsi prázdné, ačkoli ramena sirotků potřína byla.
You have sent widows away empty, And the arms of the fatherless are bruised.
10 A protož obkličuji tě osídla, a děsí tě strach nenadálý,
Therefore snares [are] all around you, And sudden fear troubles you.
11 Aneb tma, abys neviděl, anobrž rozvodnění přikrývá tě.
Or darkness—you do not see, And abundance of waters covers you.
12 Říkáš: Zdaž Bůh není na výsosti nebeské? Ano shlédni vrch hvězd, jak jsou vysoké.
Is God not high [in] the heavens? And see the summit of the stars, That they are high.
13 Protož pravíš: Jak by věděl Bůh silný? Skrze mrákotu-liž by soudil?
And you have said, How has God known? Does He judge through thickness?
14 Oblakové jsou skrýše jeho, tak že nevidí; nebo okršlek nebeský obchází.
Thick clouds [are] a secret place to Him, And He does not see, And He habitually walks [above] the circle of the heavens.
15 Šetříš-liž stezky věku předešlého, kterouž kráčeli lidé marní?
Do you observe the path of the age, That men of iniquity have trodden,
16 Kteříž vypléněni jsou před časem, potok vylit jest na základ jejich.
Who have been cut down unexpectedly? A flood is poured out on their foundation.
17 Kteříž říkali Bohu silnému: Odejdi od nás. Což by tedy jim učiniti měl Všemohoucí?
Those saying to God, Turn aside from us, And what does the Mighty One do to them?
18 On zajisté domy jejich naplnil dobrými věcmi, (ale rada bezbožných vzdálena jest ode mne).
And He has filled their houses [with] good (And the counsel of the wicked Has been far from me).
19 Což vidouce spravedliví, veselí se, a nevinný posmívá se jim,
The righteous see and they rejoice, And the innocent mocks at them:
20 Zvlášť když není vypléněno jmění naše, ostatky pak jejich sežral oheň.
Surely our substance has not been cut off, And fire has consumed their excellence.
21 Přivykejž medle s ním choditi, a pokojněji se míti, skrze to přijde tobě všecko dobré.
Now acquaint yourself with Him, and be at peace, Thereby your increase [is] good.
22 Přijmi, prosím, z úst jeho zákon, a slož řeči jeho v srdci svém.
Please receive a law from His mouth, And set His sayings in your heart.
23 Navrátíš-li se k Všemohoucímu, vzdělán budeš, a vzdálíš-li nepravost od stanů svých,
If you return to the Mighty you are built up, You put iniquity far from your tents.
24 Tedy nakladeš na zemi zlata, a místo kamení potočního zlata z Ofir.
So as to set a defense on the dust, And a covering on a rock of the valleys.
25 Nebo bude Všemohoucí nejčistším zlatem tvým, a stříbrem i silou tvou.
And the Mighty has been your defense, And silver [is] strength to you.
26 A tehdáž v Všemohoucím kochati se budeš, a pozdvihna k Bohu tváři své,
For then you delight yourself on the Mighty, And lift up your face to God,
27 Pokorně modliti se budeš jemu, a vyslyší tě; pročež sliby své plniti budeš.
You make supplication to Him, And He hears you, And you complete your vows.
28 Nebo cožkoli začneš, budeť se dařiti, anobrž na cestách tvých svítiti bude světlo.
And you decree a saying, And it is established to you, And light has shone on your ways.
29 Když jiní sníženi budou, tedy díš: Jáť jsem povýšen. Nebo toho, kdož jest očí ponížených, Bůh spasena učiní.
For they have made low, And you say, Lift up. And He saves the bowed down of eyes.
30 Vysvobodí i toho, kterýž není bez viny, vysvobodí, pravím, čistotou rukou tvých.
He delivers the one [who is] not innocent, Indeed, he has been delivered By the cleanness of your hands.”
