1 Bratří moji, nepřipojujtež přijímání osob k víře slavného Pána našeho Jezukrista.
My brethren, haue not the faith of our glorious Lord Iesus Christ in respect of persons.
2 Nebo kdyby přišel do shromáždění vašeho muž, maje prsten zlatý v drahém rouše, a všel by také i chudý v chaterném oděvu,
For if there come into your company a man with a golde ring, and in goodly apparell, and there come in also a poore man in vile raiment,
3 A popatřili byste k tomu, kterýž drahé roucho má, a řekli byste jemu: Ty sedni tuto poctivě; chudému pak řekli byste: Ty stůj tamto, aneb sedni tuto, pod podnoží noh mých:
And ye haue a respect to him that weareth the gaie clothing; and say vnto him, Sit thou here in a goodly place, and say vnto the poore, Stand thou there, or sit here vnder my footestoole,
4 Zdaliž jste již neučinili rozdílu mezi sebou a učiněni jste soudcové v myšleních zlých?
Are yee not partiall in your selues, and are become iudges of euill thoughts?
5 Slyšte, bratří moji milí, zdaliž Bůh nevyvolil chudých na tomto světě, aby bohatí byli u víře a dědicové království, kteréž zaslíbil těm, kdož jej milují?
Hearken my beloued brethren, hath not God chosen the poore of this worlde, that they should be rich in faith, and heires of the kingdome which he promised to them that loue him?
6 Ale vy jste neuctili chudého. Zdaliž bohatí mocí neutiskují vás? A oniť vás i k soudům přivozují?
But ye haue despised the poore. Doe not the riche oppresse you by tyrannie, and doe not they drawe you before the iudgement seates?
7 Zdali oni nerouhají se tomu slavnému jménu, kteréž vzýváno jest nad vámi?
Doe nor they blaspheme the worthie Name after which yee be named?
8 Jestliže pak plníte zákon královský podlé písma: Milovati budeš bližního svého, jako sebe samého, dobře činíte.
But if yee fulfill the royall Lawe according to the Scripture, which saith, Thou shalt loue thy neighbour as thy selfe, yee doe well.
9 Pakliť osoby přijímáte, hřešíte, a zákon vás tresce jako přestupníky.
But if yee regarde the persons, yee commit sinne, and are rebuked of the Lawe, as transgressours.
10 Nebo kdo by koli celého zákona ostříhal, přestoupil by pak jediné, všechněmi jest vinen.
For whosoeuer shall keepe the whole Lawe, and yet faileth in one poynt, hee is guiltie of all.
11 Ten zajisté, kterýž řekl: Nesesmilníš, takéť řekl: Nezabiješ. Pakli bys nesesmilnil, ale zabil bys, učiněn jsi přestupníkem zákona.
For he that saide, Thou shalt not commit adulterie, saide also, Thou shalt not kill. Nowe though thou doest none adulterie, yet if thou killest, thou art a transgressour of the Lawe.
12 Tak mluvte, a tak čiňte, jako ti, kteříž podlé zákona svobody souzeni býti máte.
So speake ye, and so doe, as they that shall be iudged by the Lawe of libertie.
13 Nebo odsouzení bez milosrdenství stane se tomu, kdož nečiní milosrdenství, ale chlubíť se milosrdenstvím proti odsudku.
For there shalbe condemnation merciles to him that sheweth not mercie, and mercie reioyceth against condemnation.
14 Co prospěje, bratří moji, praví-li se kdo víru míti, a nemá-li skutků? Zdaliž jej ta víra může spasiti?
What auaileth it, my brethren, though a man saith he hath faith, when he hath no workes? can that faith saue him?
15 A kdyby bratr neb sestra neodění byli, a opuštění z strany živnosti vezdejší,
For if a brother or a sister bee naked and destitute of daily foode,
16 Řekl by pak jim někdo z vás: Jděte v pokoji, shřejte se, a najezte se, a však nedali byste jim potřeby tělesné, což to platí?
And one of you say vnto them, Depart in peace: warme your selues, and fil your bellies, notwithstading ye giue them not those things which are needefull to the body, what helpeth it?
17 Takž i víra, nemá-li skutků, mrtváť jest sama v sobě.
Euen so the faith, if it haue no woorkes, is dead in it selfe.
18 Ale dí někdo: Ty víru máš, a já mám skutky. Ukažiž ty mi víru svou z skutků svých, a já tobě ukáži víru svou z skutků svých.
But some man might say, Thou hast the faith, and I haue woorkes: shewe me thy faith out of thy woorkes, and I will shewe thee my faith by my woorkes.
19 Ty věříš, že jest jeden Bůh. Dobře činíš. I ďáblovéť tomu věří, a však třesou se.
Thou beleeuest that there is one God: thou doest well: the deuils also beleeue it, and tremble.
20 Ale chceš-liž věděti, ó člověče marný, že víra bez skutků jest mrtvá?
But wilt thou vnderstand, O thou vaine man, that the faith which is without workes, is dead?
21 Abraham otec náš zdali ne z skutků ospravedlněn jest, obětovav syna svého Izáka na oltář?
Was not Abraham our father iustified through workes, when he offred Isaac his sonne vpon the altar?
22 Vidíš-li, že víra napomáhala skutkům jeho, a z skutků víra dokonalá byla?
Seest thou not that the faith wrought with his workes? and through the workes was the faith made perfect.
23 A tak naplněno jest písmo, řkoucí: I uvěřil Abraham Bohu, a počteno jest jemu za spravedlnost, a přítelem Božím nazván jest.
And the Scripture was fulfilled which sayeth, Abraham beleeued God, and it was imputed vnto him for righteousnesse: and hee was called the friende of God.
24 Vidíte-liž tedy, že z skutků ospravedlněn bývá člověk, a ne z víry toliko?
Ye see then howe that of workes a man is iustified, and not of faith onely.
25 Též podobně i Raab nevěstka zdali ne z skutků ospravedlněna jest, přijavši ony posly, a jinou cestou pryč vypustivši?
Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot iustified through workes, when she had receiued ye messengers, and sent them out another way?
26 Nebo jakož tělo bez duše jest mrtvé, takť i víra bez skutků jest mrtvá.
For as the body without ye spirit is dead, euen so the faith without workes is dead.
