1 Poněvadž tedy Kristus trpěl za nás na těle, i vy také týmž myšlením odíni buďte, že ten, kdož trpěl na těle, přestal od hříchu,
Christ then having suffered in the flesh, do ye also arm yourselves with the same mind; for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;
2 K tomu, aby již nebyl více tělesným žádostem, ale vůli Boží v těle živ, po ten čas, což ho ještě zůstává.
that ye may no longer live the remaining time in the flesh after the lusts of men, but after the will of God.
3 Dostiť jest zajisté nám na tom přeběhlém času života, v němž jsme líbosti pohanů páchali, chodivše v nestydatých chlipnostech, v žádostech, v zbytečném pití vína, v hodování, v opilství, a v ohyzdném modlosloužení.
For sufficient is the time past to have wrought the will of the gentiles, when ye walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revelings, carousings, and abominable idolatries;
4 A protož když s nimi neběháte k takovému vydávání se v rozpustilost, zdá se jim to cosi nového býti, a rouhají se tomu.
at which they are astonished that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you;
5 Tiť vydadí počet tomu, kterýž hotov jest souditi živé i mrtvé.
who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the living and the dead.
6 Proto jest zajisté i mrtvým kázáno evangelium, aby souzeni byli podlé lidí z strany těla, ale živi byli podlé Boha duchem.
For to this end was the gospel preached also to the dead, that they might indeed be judged according to men in the flesh, but might live according to God in the spirit.
7 Všemuť se pak přibližuje konec.
But the end of all things is at hand; be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.
8 A protož buďte středmí a bedliví k modlitbám. Přede vším pak lásku jedni k druhým opravdovou mějte; nebo láska přikryje množství hříchů.
And above all things have fervent love among yourselves; for love covereth a multitude of sins.
9 Buďte vespolek přívětiví k hostem, bez reptání.
Be hospitable to one another without grudging.
10 Jeden každý jakž vzal dar, tak vespolek tím sobě přisluhujte, jako dobří šafáři rozličné milosti Boží.
According as each one hath received a gift, minister the same to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
11 Mluví-li kdo, mluviž jako řeči Boží; jestliže kdo přisluhuje, čiň to jako z moci, kteréž jemu uděluje Bůh, aby ve všem slaven byl Bůh skrze Jezukrista, kterýž má slávu a císařství na věky věků. Amen. (aiōn g165)
If any one speak, let him speak as uttering the oracles of God; if any minister, let him do it as from the ability which God giveth; that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory and the dominion for ever and ever. Amen. (aiōn g165)
12 Nejmilejší, nebudiž vám divný ten přišlý na vás oheň, pro zkušení vás, jako by se vám něco nového přihodilo.
Beloved, be not surprised at the fiery trial which is taking place among you to prove you, as though a strange thing were befalling you;
13 Ale z toho, že jste účastni utrpení Kristových, radujte se, abyste i při zjevení slávy jeho radovali se s veselím.
but, in so far as ye share in Christ's sufferings, rejoice; that also at the manifestation of his glory ye may rejoice with exceeding joy.
14 Trpíte-li pohanění pro jméno Kristovo, blahoslavení jste. Nebo Duch ten slávy a Boží na vás odpočívá, kterýž z strany jich zajisté rouhán, ale z strany vaší oslavován bývá.
If ye are reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye for the Spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you.
15 Žádný pak z vás netrp jako vražedlník, neb zloděj, neb zločinec, neb všetečný.
For let none of you suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or an evil-doer, or as a busybody in other men's matters;
16 Jestliže pak jako křesťan, nestyď se za to, ale oslavuj Boha v té částce.
but if as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in this name.
17 Nebo jest čas, aby se začal soud od domu Božího. A poněvadž nejprv od nás, jakýž bude konec těch, kteříž nejsou povolni evangelium Božímu?
For the time is come for judgment to begin at the house of God; but if it first begin with us, what will be the end of those who obey not the gospel of God?
18 A poněvadž spravedlivý sotva k spasení přichází, bezbožný a hříšník kde se ukáže?
and “if the righteous scarcely is saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?”
19 A protož i ti, kteříž trpí podlé vůle Boží, jakožto věrnému stvořiteli ať poroučejí duše své, dobře činíce.
Wherefore let those who suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well-doing, as to a faithful Creator.
