1 Korintským 13
1 Bych jazyky lidskými mluvil i andělskými, a lásky kdybych neměl, učiněn jsem měď zvučící aneb zvonec znějící.
Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not love, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.
2 A bychť měl proroctví, a povědom byl všelikého tajemství i všelikého umění, a kdybych měl tak velikou víru, že bych hory přenášel, lásky pak kdybych neměl, nic nejsem.
And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, and have not love, I am nothing.
3 A kdybych vynaložil na pokrmy všecken statek svůj, a bych vydal tělo své k spálení, a lásky bych neměl, nic mi to neprospívá.
And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give up my body that I may be burned, and have not love, it profiteth me nothing.
4 Láska trpělivá jest, dobrotivá jest, láska nezávidí, láska není všetečná, nenadýmá se.
Love suffereth long, is kind; love envieth not; love vaunteth not herself, is not puffed up,
5 V nic neslušného se nevydává, nehledá svých věcí, nezpouzí se, neobmýšlí zlého.
doth not behave herself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, maketh no account of an injury,
6 Neraduje se z nepravosti, ale spolu raduje se pravdě.
rejoiceth not at iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth,
7 Všecko snáší, všemu věří, všeho se naděje, všeho trpělivě čeká.
beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.
8 Láska nikdy nevypadá, ješto buď že proroctví jsou, ta přestanou, buď jazykové, ti utichnou, buď učení, to v nic přijde.
Love never faileth; but whether there are prophesyings, they will come to an end; whether tongues, they will cease; whether knowledge, it will be done away.
9 Z částky zajisté poznáváme, a z částky prorokujeme.
For we know in part, and we prophesy in part;
10 Ale jakž by přišlo dokonalé, tehdyť to, což jest z částky, vyhlazeno bude.
but when that which is perfect is come, that which is in part will be done away.
11 Dokudž jsem byl dítě, mluvil jsem jako dítě, myslil jsem jako dítě, smýšlel jsem jako dítě, ale když jsem muž, opustil jsem dětinské věci.
When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I had the feelings of a child, I thought as a child; since I have become a man, I have put away the things of the child.
12 Nyní zajisté vidíme v zrcadle a skrze podobenství, ale tehdáž tváří v tvář. Nyní poznávám z částky, ale tehdy poznám, tak jakž i známostí obdařen budu.
For now we see in a mirror, obscurely; but then face to face; now I know in part, but then I shall fully know even as I also am fully known.
13 Nyní pak zůstává víra, naděje, láska, to tré, ale největší z nich jestiť láska.
And now there abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
