Mudre Izreke 8
1 Ne propovijeda li mudrost i ne diže li razboritost svoj glas?
Doth not wisdom cry aloud, And understanding put forth her voice?
2 Navrh brda, uza cestu, na raskršćima stoji,
Upon the top of the high places, By the wayside, In the cross-ways, She taketh her station.
3 kod izlaza iz grada, kraj ulaznih vrata, ona glasno viče:
By the side of the gates, In the entrance of the city, In the approaches to the doors, she crieth aloud.
4 “Vama, o ljudi, propovijedam i upravljam svoj glas sinovima ljudskim.
“To you, O men! do I call, And my voice is to the sons of men!
5 Shvatite mudrost, vi neiskusni, a vi nerazumni, urazumite srce.
O ye simple ones! learn wisdom, And ye fools, be ye of an understanding heart!
6 Slušajte, jer ću zboriti o važnim stvarima, i moje će usne otkriti što je pravo.
Hear, for I speak excellent things, And my lips utter that which is right.
7 Jer moje nepce zbori istinu i zloća je mojim usnama mrska.
For my mouth speaketh truth, And wickedness is an abomination to my lips.
8 Sve su riječi mojih usta pravične, u njima nema ništa ni krivo ni prijetvorno.
All the words of my mouth are in uprightness; There is nothing crooked or deceitful in them;
9 Sve su one jasne razboritomu i pravedne onomu tko je stekao spoznaju.
They are all plain to the man of understanding, And right to those who find knowledge.
10 Primajte radije moju pouku no srebro i znanje požudnije od zlata.
Receive my instruction, and not silver. And knowledge rather than choice gold!
11 Jer mudrost je vrednija od biserja i nikakve se dragocjenosti ne mogu porediti s njom.
For wisdom is better than pearls, And no precious things are to be compared with her.
12 Ja, mudrost, boravim s razboritošću i posjedujem znanje umna djelovanja.
“I, wisdom, dwell with prudence, And find out the knowledge of sagacious counsels.
13 Strah Gospodnji mržnja je na zlo. Oholost, samodostatnost, put zloće i usta puna laži - to ja mrzim.
The fear of the LORD is to hate evil; Pride, and arrogance, and the evil way, And the deceitful mouth, do I hate.
14 Moji su savjet i razboritost, ja sam razbor i moja je jakost.
Counsel is mine, and sound reason; I am understanding; I have strength.
15 Po meni kraljevi kraljuju i velikaši dijele pravdu.
By me kings reign, And princes decree justice.
16 Po meni knezuju knezovi i odličnici i svi suci zemaljski.
By me princes rule, And nobles, even all the judges of the earth.
17 Ja ljubim one koji ljube mene i nalaze me koji me traže.
I love them that love me, And they who seek me early shall find me.
18 U mene je bogatstvo i slava, postojano dobro i pravednost.
Riches and honor are with me; Yea, durable riches and prosperity.
19 Moj je plod bolji od čista i žežena zlata i moj je prihod bolji od čistoga srebra.
My fruit is better than gold, yea, than fine gold. And my revenue than choice silver.
20 Ja kročim putem pravde, sred pravičnih staza,
I walk in the way of righteousness, In the midst of the paths of equity.

I cause those who love me to possess substance; Yea, I fill their treasuries.
22 Jahve me stvori kao počelo svoga djela, kao najraniji od svojih čina, u pradoba;
“The LORD created me, the firstling of his course, Before his works, of old;
23 oblikovana sam još od vječnosti, odiskona, prije nastanka zemlje.
I was anointed from everlasting, From the beginning, even before the earth was made.
24 Rodih se kad još nije bilo pradubina, dok nije bilo izvora obilnih voda.
When as yet there were no deeps, I was brought forth. When there were no springs, abounding with water.
25 Rodih se prije nego su utemeljene gore, prije brežuljaka.
Before the mountains were settled, Yea, before the hills, I was brought forth;
26 Kad još ne bijaše načinio zemlje, ni poljana, ni početka zemaljskom prahu;
Ere yet he had made the land and the wastes, And the first of the clods of the earth.
27 kad je stvarao nebesa, bila sam nazočna, kad je povlačio krug na licu bezdana.
When he framed the heavens, I was there; When he drew a circle upon the face of the deep;
28 Kad je u visini utvrđivao oblake i kad je odredio snagu izvoru pradubina;
When he made firm the sky above, And the fountains of the deep rushed forth;
29 kad je postavljao moru njegove granice da mu se vode ne preliju preko obala, kad je polagao temelje zemlji,
When he gave to the sea its bounds, that the waters should not pass their border; When he marked out the foundations of the earth, —
30 bila sam kraj njega, kao graditeljica, bila u radosti, iz dana u dan, igrajući pred njim sve vrijeme:
Then was I by him as a master-builder; I was his delight day by day, Exulting before him at all times;
31 igrala sam po tlu njegove zemlje, i moja su radost djeca čovjekova.
Exulting in the habitable part of his earth, And my delight was with the sons of men.
32 Tako, djeco, poslušajte me, blago onima koji čuvaju moje putove.
“Now, therefore, ye children, hearken to me! For happy are they who keep my ways!
33 Poslušajte pouku - da stečete mudrost i nemojte je odbaciti.
Hear instruction, and be wise! Yea, reject it not!
34 Blago čovjeku koji me sluša i bdi na mojim vratima svaki dan i koji čuva dovratnike moje.
Happy the man who hearkeneth to me, Who watcheth day by day at my gates, Who waiteth at the posts of my doors;
35 Jer tko nalazi mene, nalazi život i stječe milost od Jahve.
For he that findeth me findeth life, And obtaineth favor from the LORD;
36 A ako se ogriješi o mene, udi svojoj duši: svi koji mene mrze ljube smrt.”
But he who misseth me doeth violence to himself; All they who hate me love death.”
