Mudre Izreke 3
1 Sine moj, ne zaboravljaj moje pouke, i tvoje srce neka čuva moje zapovijedi,
My son! Do not forget my law, And let your heart keep my commands,
2 jer će ti produljiti dane i životne godine i podariti spokojstvo.
For [the] length of [your] days and years, Life and peace they add to you.
3 Neka te ne ostavljaju dobrota i vjernost, objesi ih sebi oko vrata, upiši ih na ploču srca svoga.
Do not let kindness and truth forsake you, Bind them on your neck, Write them on the tablet of your heart,
4 Tako ćeš steći ugled i uspjeti pred Božjim i ljudskim očima.
And find grace and good understanding In the eyes of God and man.
5 Uzdaj se u Jahvu svim srcem i ne oslanjaj se na vlastiti razbor.
Trust to YHWH with all your heart, And do not lean to your own understanding.
6 Misli na nj na svim svojim putovima i on će ispraviti tvoje staze.
In all your ways know Him, And He makes your paths straight.
7 Ne umišljaj da si mudar: boj se Jahve i kloni se zla.
Do not be wise in your own eyes, Fear YHWH, and turn aside from evil.
8 To će biti lijek tvome tijelu i okrepa tvojim kostima.
It is healing to your navel, And moistening to your bones.
9 Časti Jahvu svojim blagom i prvinama svega svojeg prirasta.
Honor YHWH from your substance, And from the beginning of all your increase;
10 I tvoje će žitnice biti prepune i tvoje će se kace prelijevati novim vinom.
And your barns are filled [with] plenty, And your presses break forth [with] new wine.
11 Sine moj, ne odbacuj Jahvine opomene i nemoj da ti omrzne njegov ukor.
Discipline of YHWH, my son, do not despise, And do not be distressed with His reproof,
12 Jer koga Jahve ljubi onoga i kori, kao otac sina koga voli.
For whom YHWH loves He reproves, Even as a father the son He is pleased with.
13 Blago čovjeku koji je stekao mudrost i čovjeku koji je zadobio razboritost.
O the blessedness of a man [who] has found wisdom, And of a man [who] brings forth understanding.
14 Jer bolje je steći nju nego steći srebro, i veći je dobitak ona i od zlata.
For better [is] her merchandise Than the merchandise of silver, And than gold—her increase.
15 Skupocjenija je od bisera, i što je god tvojih dragocjenosti, s njome se porediti ne mogu;
She [is] precious above rubies, And all your pleasures are not comparable to her.
16 dug joj je život u desnoj ruci, a u lijevoj bogatstvo i čast.
Length of days [is] in her right hand, In her left [are] wealth and honor.
17 Njezini su putovi putovi miline i sve su njene staze pune spokoja.
Her ways [are] ways of pleasantness, And all her paths [are] peace.
18 Životno je drvo onima koji se nje drže i sretan je onaj tko je zadrži.
She [is] a tree of life to those laying hold on her, And whoever is retaining her [is] blessed.
19 Jahve je mudrošću utemeljio zemlju i umom utvrdio nebesa;
YHWH founded the earth by wisdom, He prepared the heavens by understanding.
20 njegovim su se znanjem otvorili bezdani i oblaci osuli rosom.
By His knowledge depths have been broken, And clouds drop dew.
21 Sine moj, ne gubi to iz očiju, sačuvaj razbor i oprez.
My son! Do not let them turn from your eyes, Keep wisdom and thoughtfulness,
22 I bit će život tvojoj duši i ures vratu tvome.
And they are life to your soul, and grace to your neck.
23 Bez straha ćeš tada kročiti svojim putem i noga ti se neće spoticati.
Then you go your way confidently, And your foot does not stumble.
24 Kad legneš, nećeš se plašiti, i kad zaspiš, slatko ćeš snivati.
If you lie down, you are not afraid, Indeed, you have lain down, And your sleep has been sweet.
25 Ne boj se nenadne strahote ni nagle propasti kad stigne bezbožnike.
Do not be afraid of sudden fear, And of the desolation of the wicked when it comes.
26 Jer će ti Jahve biti uzdanje i čuvat će nogu tvoju od zamke.
For YHWH is at your side, And He has kept your foot from capture.
27 Ne uskrati dobročinstva potrebitim kad god to možeš učiniti.
Do not withhold good from its owners, When your hand [is] toward God to do [it].
28 Ne reci svome bližnjemu: “Idi i dođi opet, sjutra ću ti dati”, kad možeš već sada.
Do not say to your friend, “Go, and return, and tomorrow I give,” When substance [is] with you.
29 Ne kuj zla svome bližnjemu dok on bez straha kod tebe boravi.
Do not devise evil against your neighbor, And he sitting confidently with you.
30 Ne pravdaj se ni s kim bez razloga ako ti nije učinio nikakva zla.
Do not strive with a man without cause, If he has not done you evil.
31 Nemoj zavidjeti nasilniku niti slijediti njegove pute,
Do not be envious of a man of violence, Nor fix on any of his ways.
32 jer su Jahvi mrski pokvarenjaci, a prisan je s pravednima.
For the perverted [is] an abomination to YHWH, And His secret counsel [is] with the upright.
33 Jahvino je prokletstvo na domu bezbožnika, a blagoslov u stanu pravednika.
The curse of YHWH [is] in the house of the wicked. And He blesses the habitation of the righteous.
34 S podsmjevačima on se podsmijeva, a poniznima dariva milost.
If He scorns the scorners, Yet He gives grace to the humble.
35 Mudri će baštiniti čast, a bezumnici snositi sramotu.
The wise inherit glory, And fools are bearing away shame!
