< Mudre Izreke 22 >

A good name is more desirable than great riches, and loving chen ·grace· is better than silver and gold.
2 Bogataš se i siromah sreću: obojicu ih Jahve stvori.
The rich and the poor have this in common: Adonai is the maker of them all.
3 Pametan čovjek vidi zlo i skrije se, a glupaci idu bezbrižno i trpe kaznu.
A prudent man sees danger, and hides himself; but the simple pass on, and suffer for it.
4 Nagrada je poniznosti strah Gospodnji, bogatstvo, čast i život.
The result of humility and the fear of Adonai is wealth, kavod ·weighty glory·, and life.
Thorns and snares are in the path of the wicked: whoever guards his soul stays from them.
Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.
7 Bogataš vlada nad siromasima, a dužnik je sluga vjerovniku.
The rich rule over the poor. The borrower is servant to the lender.
8 Tko sije nepravdu, žanje nesreću, i šiba njegova gnjeva udarit će njega samog.
He who sows wickedness reaps vain striving of iniquity, and the rod of his fury will be destroyed.
He who has a generous eye will be blessed; for he shares his food with the poor.
10 Otjeraj podsmjevača i prestat će svađe i nestat će nesloga i pogrda.
Divorce the mocker, and strife will go out; yes, quarrels and insults will stop.
11 Jahve ljubi čisto srce, i tko je ljubeznih usana, kralj mu je prijatelj.
He who 'ahav ·affectionately loves· purity of heart and speaks chen ·gracefully· is the king’s friend.
12 Pogled Jahvin čuva znanje, Jahve pomućuje riječi bezbožnika.
Adonai’s eyes watch over knowledge; but he frustrates the words of the unfaithful.
13 Lijenčina veli: “Lav je vani, nasred trga poginuo bih.”
The sluggard says, “There is a lion outside! I will be killed in the streets!”
The mouth of an adulteress is a deep pit: he who is under Adonai’s wrath will fall into it.
Folly is bound up in the heart of a child: the rod of discipline drives it far from him.
16 Tko tlači siromaha, taj mu koristi; tko daje bogatašu, samo mu šteti.
Whoever oppresses the poor for his own increase and whoever gives to the rich, both come to poverty.
17 Riječi mudraca: Prigni uho svoje i čuj riječi moje i upravi svoje srce mojem znanju,
Turn your ear, and sh'ma ·hear obey· the words of the wise. Apply your heart to my teaching.
For it is a pleasant thing if you keep them within you, if all of them are ready on your lips.
That your trust may be in Adonai, I teach you today, even you.
20 Napisah ti trideset što savjeta što pouka
Haven’t I written to you thirty excellent things of counsel and knowledge,
To teach you truth, reliable words, to give sound answers to the ones who sent you?
Don’t exploit the poor, because he is poor; and don’t crush the needy in court;
23 Jer će Jahve parbiti parbu njihovu i otet će život onima koji ga njima otimlju.
for Adonai will plead their case, and plunder the life of those who plunder them.
Don’t befriend a hot-tempered man, and don’t associate with one who harbors anger:
25 da se ne bi privikao na staze njegove i namjestio zamku duši svojoj.
lest you learn his ways, and ensnare your soul.
Don’t you be one of those who strike hands, of those who are collateral for debts.
27 ako nemaš čime nadoknaditi, zašto da ti oduzmu i postelju ispod tebe?
If you don’t have means to pay, why should he take away your bed from under you?
Don’t move the ancient boundary stone, which your fathers have set up.
29 Jesi li vidio čovjeka vična poslu svom: takav ima pristup kraljevima i ne služi prostacima.
Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will serve kings. He won’t serve obscure men.
