1 Mudar sin sluša naputak očev, a podsmjevač ne sluša ukora.
A wise son listens to his father’s instruction, but a scoffer does not sh'ma ·hear obey· rebuke.
2 Od ploda usta svojih uživa čovjek sreću, a srce je nevjernika puno nasilja.
By the fruit of his lips, a man enjoys good things; but the unfaithful crave violence.
3 Tko čuva usta svoja, čuva život svoj, a tko nesmotreno zbori, o glavu mu je.
He who guards his mouth guards his soul. One who opens wide his lips comes to ruin.
4 Uzaludna je žudnja lijenčine, a ispunit će se želja marljivih.
The soul of the sluggard desires, and has nothing, but the desire of the diligent shall be fully satisfied.
5 Pravednik mrzi na lažljivu riječ, a opaki goji mržnju i sramotu.
A upright man hates lies, but a wicked man brings shame and disgrace.
6 Pravda čuva pobožna, a opake grijeh obara.
Righteousness guards the way of integrity, but wickedness overthrows the person of habitual sin ·missing the mark·.
7 Netko se gradi bogatim, a ništa nema, netko se gradi siromašnim, a ima veliko bogatstvo.
There are some who pretend to be rich, yet have nothing. There are some who pretend to be poor, yet have great wealth.
8 Otkup života bogatstvo je čovjeku; a siromah ne sluša opomene.
The ransom of a man’s life is his riches, but the poor sh'ma ·hear obey· no threats.
9 Svjetlost pravednička blistavo sja, a svjetiljka opakih gasi se.
The light of the upright shines brightly, but the lamp candle of the wicked is snuffed out.
10 Oholost rađa samo svađu, a mudrost je u onih koji primaju savjet.
Pride only breeds quarrels, but with ones who take advice is wisdom.
11 Naglo stečeno bogatstvo iščezava, a tko sabire pomalo, biva bogat.
Wealth gained dishonestly dwindles away, but he who gathers by hand makes it grow.
12 Predugo očekivanje ubija srce, a ispunjena želja drvo je života.
Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but when longing is fulfilled, it is a tree of life.
13 Tko riječ prezire, taj propada, a tko poštiva zapovijedi, plaću dobiva.
Whoever despises instruction will pay for it, but he who respects a charge will be rewarded.
14 Pouka mudračeva izvor je životni, ona izbavlja od zamke smrti.
The teaching of the wise is a spring of life, to turn from the snares of death.
15 Uvid u dobro pribavlja milost, a put bezbožnika hrapav je.
Good understanding wins chen ·grace·; but the way of the unfaithful is hard.
16 Svatko pametan djeluje promišljeno, a bezumnik se hvališe svojom ludošću.
Every prudent man acts from knowledge, but a fool exposes folly.
17 Zao glasnik zapada u zlo, a vjeran poslanik donosi spasenje.
A wicked messenger falls into trouble, but a trustworthy envoy gains healing.
18 Siromaštvo i sramota onomu tko odbija pouku, a tko ukor prima, doći će do časti.
Poverty and shame come to him who refuses discipline, but he who heeds correction shall be honored.
19 Slatka je duši ispunjena želja, a bezumnicima je mrsko kloniti se oda zla.
Longing fulfilled is sweet to the soul, but fools detest turning from evil.
20 Druži se s mudrima, i postat ćeš mudar, a tko se drži bezumnika, postaje opak.
One who walks with wise men grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm.
21 Grešnika progoni zlo, a dobro je nagrada pravednima.
Misfortune pursues people who sin ·intentionally miss the mark goal·, but prosperity rewards the upright.
22 Valjan čovjek ostavlja baštinu unucima, a bogatstvo se grešnikovo čuva pravedniku.
A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children, but the wealth of the sinner ·deviant (from the standard goal) person· is stored for the upright.
23 Izobilje je hrane na krčevini siromaškoj, a ima i tko propada s nepravde.
An abundance of food is in poor people’s fields, but lo'mishpat ·injustice· sweeps it away.
24 Tko štedi šibu, mrzi na sina svog, a tko ga ljubi, na vrijeme ga opominje.
One who spares the rod hates his son, but one who 'ahav ·affectionately loves· him is careful to discipline him.
25 Pravednik ima jela do sitosti, a trbuh opakih poznaje oskudicu.
The upright one eats to the satisfying of his soul, but the belly of the wicked goes hungry.
