Matej 2
1 Kad se Isus rodio u Betlehemu judejskome u dane Heroda kralja, gle, mudraci se s Istoka pojaviše u Jeruzalemu
And Jesus having been born in Beth-Lehem of Judea, in the days of Herod the king, behold, magi from the east came to Jerusalem,
2 raspitujući se: “Gdje je taj novorođeni kralj židovski? Vidjesmo gdje izlazi zvijezda njegova pa mu se dođosmo pokloniti.”
saying, “Where is He who was born King of the Jews? For we saw His star in the east, and we came to worship Him.”
3 Kada to doču kralj Herod, uznemiri se on i sav Jeruzalem s njime.
And Herod the king having heard, was stirred, and all Jerusalem with him,
4 Sazva sve glavare svećeničke i pismoznance narodne pa ih ispitivaše gdje se Krist ima roditi.
and having gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he was inquiring from them where the Christ is born.
5 Oni mu odgovoriše: “U Betlehemu judejskome jer ovako piše prorok:
And they said to him, “In Beth-Lehem of Judea, for thus it has been written through the prophet:
6 A ti, Betleheme, zemljo Judina! Nipošto nisi najmanji među kneževstvima Judinim jer iz tebe će izaći vladalac koji će pasti narod moj - Izraela!
And you, Beth-Lehem, the land of Judah, you are by no means the least among the leaders of Judah, for out of you will come One leading, who will feed My people Israel.”
7 Tada Herod potajno dozva mudrace i razazna od njih vrijeme kad se pojavila zvijezda.
Then Herod, having called the magi privately, inquired exactly from them the time of the appearing star,
8 Zatim ih posla u Betlehem: “Pođite, reče, i pomno se raspitajte za dijete. Kad ga nađete, javite mi da i ja pođem te mu se poklonim.”
and having sent them to Beth-Lehem, he said, “Having gone—inquire exactly for the Child, and whenever you may have found, bring me back word, that I also having come may worship Him.”
9 Oni saslušavši kralja, pođoše. I gle, zvijezda kojoj vidješe izlazak iđaše pred njima sve dok ne stiže i zaustavi se povrh mjesta gdje bijaše dijete.
And they, having heard the king, departed, and behold, the star, that they saw in the east, went before them, until, having come, it stood over where the Child was.
10 Kad ugledaše zvijezdu, obradovaše se radošću veoma velikom.
And having seen the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy,
11 Uđu u kuću, ugledaju dijete s Marijom, majkom njegovom, padnu ničice i poklone mu se. Otvore zatim svoje blago i prinesu mu darove: zlato, tamjan i smirnu.
and having come into the house, they found the Child with His mother Mary, and having fallen down they worshiped Him, and having opened their treasures, they presented to Him gifts, gold, and frankincense, and myrrh,
12 Upućeni zatim u snu da se ne vraćaju Herodu, otiđoše drugim putem u svoju zemlju.
and having been divinely warned in a dream not to return to Herod, through another way they withdrew to their own region.
13 A pošto oni otiđoše, gle, anđeo se Gospodnji u snu javi Josipu: “Ustani, reče, uzmi dijete i majku njegovu te bježi u Egipat i ostani ondje dok ti ne reknem jer će Herod tražiti dijete da ga pogubi.
And on their having withdrawn, behold, a messenger of the LORD appears in a dream to Joseph, saying, “Having risen, take the Child and His mother, and flee to Egypt, and be there until I may speak to you, for Herod is about to seek the Child to destroy Him.”
14 On ustane, uzme noću dijete i majku njegovu te krene u Egipat.
And he, having risen, took the Child and His mother by night, and withdrew to Egypt,
15 I osta ondje do Herodova skončanja - da se ispuni što Gospodin reče po proroku: Iz Egipta dozvah Sina svoga.
and he was there until the death of Herod, that it might be fulfilled that was spoken by the LORD through the prophet, saying, “Out of Egypt I called My Son.”
16 Vidjevši da su ga mudraci izigrali, Herod se silno rasrdi i posla poubijati sve dječake u Betlehemu i po svoj okolici, od dvije godine naniže - prema vremenu što ga razazna od mudraca.
Then Herod, having seen that he was deceived by the magi, was very angry, and having sent forth, he slew all the male children in Beth-Lehem, and in all its borders, from two years and under, according to the time that he inquired exactly from the magi.
17 Tada se ispuni što je rečeno po proroku Jeremiji:
Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, saying,
18 U Rami se glas čuje, kuknjava i plač gorak: Rahela oplakuje sinove svoje i neće da se utješi jer više ih nema.
“A voice in Ramah was heard—weeping and much mourning—Rachel weeping [for] her children, and she would not be comforted because they are not.”
19 Nakon Herodova skončanja, gle, anđeo se Gospodnji javi u snu Josipu u Egiptu:
And Herod having died, behold, a messenger of the LORD appears in a dream to Joseph in Egypt,
20 “Ustani, reče, uzmi dijete i njegovu majku te pođi u zemlju izraelsku jer su umrli oni koji su djetetu o glavi radili.”
saying, “Having risen, take the Child and His mother, and be going to the land of Israel, for they have died—those seeking the life of the Child.”
21 On ustane, uzme dijete i njegovu majku te uđe u zemlju izraelsku.
And he, having risen, took the Child and His mother, and came to the land of Israel,
22 Ali saznavši da Arhelaj vlada Judejom namjesto svoga oca Heroda, bojao se poći onamo pa, upućen u snu, ode u kraj galilejski.
and having heard that Archelaus reigns over Judea instead of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there, and having been divinely warned in a dream, he withdrew to the parts of Galilee,
23 Dođe i nastani se u gradu zvanu Nazaret - da se ispuni što je rečeno po prorocima: Zvat će se Nazarećanin.
and coming, he dwelt in a city named Nazareth, that it might be fulfilled that was spoken through the Prophets, that “He will be called a Nazarene.”
