1 Ja sam čovjek što upozna bijedu pod šibom gnjeva njegova.
I am the man that hath seen affliction under the rod of His wrath;
2 Mene je odveo i natjerao da hodam u tmini i bez svjetlosti.
He hath led me and brought me into darkness, and not into light;
3 I upravo mene bije i udara bez prestanka njegova ruka.
Yea, against me doth he again and again turn his hand all the day long.
4 Iscijedio je moje meso, kožu moju, polomio kosti moje.
My flesh and my skin hath he made old; he hath broken my bones.
5 Načinio mi jaram, glavu obrubio tegobama.
He hath builded against me, and encompassed me with bitterness and woe.
6 Pustio me da živim u tminama kao mrtvaci vječiti.
He hath set me in dark places, as those that have long been dead.
7 Zazidao me, i ja ne mogu izaći, otežao je moje okove.
He hath hedged me about, so that I cannot get out; he hath made my chain heavy;
8 Kada sam vikao i zapomagao, molitvu je moju odbijao.
Yea, when I cry and call aloud, he shutteth out my prayer.
9 Zazidao mi ceste tesanim kamenom, zakrčio je putove moje.
He blocketh up my way with hewn stone; he maketh my paths crooked.
10 Meni on bijaše medvjed koji vreba, lav u zasjedi.
A bear lying in wait hath he been to me, a lion in lurking-places.
11 U bespuća me vodio, razdirao, ostavljao me da umirem.
He hath turned aside my ways, and torn me in pieces; he hath made me desolate.
12 Napinjao je luk svoj i gađao me kao metu za svoje strelice.
He hath bent his bow, and set me as a mark for the arrow.
13 U slabine mi sasuo strelice, sinove svoga tobolca.
He hath caused the sons of his quiver to pierce my reins.
14 Postao sam smiješan svome narodu, rugalica svakidašnja.
I have been a laughing-stock to all my people, their song all the day.
15 Gorčinom me hranio, pelinom me napajao.
He hath filled me with bitterness; he hath made me drunk with wormwood.
16 Puštao me da zube kršim kamen grizući, zakapao me u pepeo.
He hath also broken my teeth with gravel-stones; He hath covered me with ashes.
17 Duši je mojoj oduzet mir i više ne znam što je sreća!
Yea, thou hast removed my soul far from peace; I have forgotten prosperity.
18 Rekoh: Dotrajao je život moj i nada koja mi od Jahve dolazi.
And I say, “My confidence and my hope in Jehovah are gone!”
19 Spomeni se bijede moje i stradanja, pelina i otrova!
Remember my affliction and my misery, the wormwood and the gall!
20 Bez prestanka na to misli i sahne duša u meni.
Yea, thou wilt remember them, for my soul sinketh within me!
21 To nosim u srcu i gojim nadu u sebi.
This I recall to my mind; therefore have I hope;
22 Dobrota Jahvina nije nestala, milosrđe njegovo nije presušilo.
It is of the mercy of Jehovah that we are not consumed; yea, his compassion faileth not;
23 Oni se obnavljaju svako jutro: tvoja je vjernost velika!
It is new every morning; great is thy faithfulness.
24 “Jahve je dio moj”, veli mi duša, “i zato se u nj pouzdajem.”
Jehovah is my portion, saith my soul, therefore do I hope in him.
25 Dobar je Jahve onom koji se u nj pouzdaje, duši koja ga traži.
Jehovah is good to them that trust in him, to the soul that seeketh him.
26 Dobro je u miru čekati spasenje Jahvino!
It is good that a man hope, and quietly wait for salvation from Jehovah.
27 Dobro je čovjeku da nosi jaram za svoje mladosti.
It is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth;
28 Neka sjedi u samoći i šuti, jer mu On to nametnu;
That he sit alone and keep silence, since He layeth it upon him;
29 neka usne priljubi uz prašinu, možda još ima nade!
That he put his mouth in the dust, [[saying to himself, ]] “Perhaps there may be hope!”
30 Neka pruži obraz onome koji ga bije, neka se zasiti porugom.
That he offer his cheek to the smiter; that he be filled with reproach.
31 Jer Gospod ne odbacuje nikoga zauvijek:
For the Lord will not cast off forever;
32 jer ako i rastuži, on se smiluje po svojoj velikoj ljubavi.
For though he cause grief, yet doth he have compassion according to his great mercy;
33 Jer samo nerado on ponižava i rascvili sinove čovjeka.
For he doth not willingly afflict and grieve the children of men.
34 Kad se gaze nogama svi zemaljski sužnjevi,
Doth one trample under foot all the prisoners of the earth,
35 kad se izvrće pravica čovjeku pred licem Svevišnjeg,
Doth he bend the right of a man before the face of the Most High,
36 kad se krivica nanosi čovjeku u parnici, zar Gospod ne vidi?
Doth he subvert a man in his cause, and shall not the Lord behold it?
37 Tko je rekao nešto i zbilo se? Nije li Gospod to zapovjedio?
Who is he that saith, and it cometh to pass, when the Lord hath not commanded?
38 Ne dolazi li iz usta Svevišnjega i dobro i zlo?
Cometh not evil, as well as good, from the mouth of the Most High?
39 Na što se tuže živi ljudi? Svatko na svoj grijeh.
Wherefore then murmureth the living man? Let him murmur at his own sin!
40 Ispitajmo, pretražimo pute svoje i vratimo se Jahvi.
Let us search and try our ways, and turn again to Jehovah!
41 Dignimo svoje srce i ruke svoje k Bogu koji je na nebesima.
Let us lift up our hearts with our hands to God in the heavens!
42 Da, mi smo se odmetali, bili nepokorni, a ti, ti nisi praštao!
We have transgressed; we have rebelled; thou hast not forgiven!
43 Obastrt gnjevom svojim, gonio si nas, ubijao i nisi štedio.
Thou hast hidden thyself in anger, and hast pursued us; thou hast slain and hast not spared;
44 Oblakom si se obastro da molitva ne prodre do tebe.
Thou hast hidden thyself in a cloud, that our prayer may not pass through;
45 Načinio si od nas smeće i odmet među narodima.
Thou hast made us the offscouring and refuse in the midst of the nations.
46 Razjapili usta na nas svi neprijatelji naši.
All our enemies have opened their mouths against us;
47 Užas i jama bila nam sudbina, propast i zator!
Terror and the pit have come upon us, desolation and destruction;
48 Potoci suza teku iz očiju mojih zbog propasti Kćeri naroda mojega.
Mine eye runneth down with streams of water for the destruction of the daughter of my people.
49 Moje oči liju suze bez prestanka, jer prestanka nema
Mine eye trickleth down and ceaseth not, without any intermission,
50 dok ne pogleda i ne vidi Jahve s nebesa.
Until Jehovah look down and behold from heaven.
51 Moje mi oko bol zadaje zbog kćeri svih mojega grada.
Mine eye is painful to me on account of all the daughters of my city.
52 Uporno me k'o pticu progone svi što me mrze, a bez razloga.
They that are my enemies without cause hunt me down like a bird;
53 U jamu baciše moj život i zatrpaše je kamenjem.
They take away my life in the dungeon; they cast a stone upon me;
54 Voda mi dođe preko glave, rekoh sam sebi: “Pogiboh!”
Waters flow over my head; I say, “I am undone!”
55 I tada zazvah ime tvoje, Jahve, iz najdublje jame.
I call upon thy name, O Jehovah, from the deep dungeon;
56 Ti oču moj glas: “Ne začepljuj uši svoje na vapaje moje.”
Hear thou my voice! hide not thine ear from my cry for relief!
57 Bliz meni bijaše u dan vapaja mog, govoraše: “Ne boj se!”
Be near to me, when I call upon thee! Say, “Fear not!”
58 Ti si, Gospode, izborio pravdu za dušu moju, ti si život moj izbavio.
Thou maintainest my cause, O Lord; thou redeemest my life!
59 Ti, Jahve, vidje kako me tlače, dosudi mi pravdu.
Thou, O Jehovah, seest the wrong done to me; Maintain thou my cause!
60 Ti vidje svu osvetu njinu, sve podvale protiv mene.
Thou seest all their vengeance, all their devices against me.
61 Čuo si, Jahve, podrugivanje njihovo, sve podvale protiv mene.
Thou hearest their reproach, O Jehovah, all their devices against me,
62 Usne protivnika mojih i misli njine protiv mene su cio dan.
The words of my adversaries, and their machinations against me all the day long!
63 Kad sjede, kad ustaju, pogledaj samo: ja sam im pjesma-rugalica.
Behold their sitting down and their rising up! I am their song.
64 Vrati im, Jahve, milo za drago, po djelu ruku njihovih.
Render to them a recompense, O Jehovah, according to the work of their hands!
65 Učini da srca im otvrdnu, udari ih prokletstvom svojim.
Give them blindness of mind! thy curse be upon them!
66 Goni ih gnjevno i sve ih istrijebi pod nebesima svojim, Jahve!
Pursue them in thine anger, and destroy them from under Jehovah's heaven!
