Job 4
1 Tad prozbori Elifaz Temanac i reče:
Then answered Eliphaz the Temanite, and said:
2 “Možeš li podnijeti da ti progovorim? Ali tko se može uzdržat' od riječi!
If one venture a word unto thee, wilt thou be weary? But who can withhold himself from speaking?
3 Eto, mnoge ljude ti si poučio, okrijepio si iznemogle mišice;
Behold, thou hast instructed many, and thou hast strengthened the weak hands.
4 riječju svojom klonule si pridizao, ojačavao si koljena klecava.
Thy words have upholden him that was falling, and thou hast strengthened the feeble knees.
5 A kad tebe stiže, klonuo si duhom, na tebe kad pade, čitav si se smeo!
But now it is come upon thee, and thou art weary; it toucheth thee, and thou art affrighted.
6 Zar pobožnost tvoja nadu ti ne daje, neporočnost tvoja životu ufanje?
Is not thy fear of God thy confidence, and thy hope the integrity of thy ways?
7 TÓa sjeti se: nevin - propade li kada? Kada su zatrti bili pravednici?
Remember, I pray thee, who ever perished, being innocent? Or where were the upright cut off?
8 Iz iskustva zborim: nesrećom tko ore i nevolju sije, nju će i požeti.
According as I have seen, they that plow iniquity, and sow mischief, reap the same.
9 Od daha Božjega oni pogibaju, na gnjevni mu disaj nestaju sa zemlje.
By the breath of God they perish, and by the blast of His anger are they consumed.
10 Rika lavlja, urlik leopardov krše se k'o zubi u lavića.
The lion roareth, and the fierce lion howleth — yet the teeth of the young lions are broken.
11 Lav ugiba jer mu nesta plijena, rasuli se mladi lavičini.
The old lion perisheth for lack of prey, and the whelps of the lioness are scattered abroad.
12 Tajna riječ se meni objavila, šapat njen je uho moje čulo.
Now a word was secretly brought to me, and mine ear received a whisper thereof.
13 Noću, kada snovi duh obuzmu i san dubok kad na ljude pada,
In thoughts from the visions of the night, when deep sleep falleth on men,
14 strah i trepet mene su svladali, kosti moje žestoko se stresle.
Fear came upon me, and trembling, and all my bones were made to shake.
15 Dah mi neki preko lica prođe, digoše se dlake na mom tijelu.
Then a spirit passed before my face, that made the hair of my flesh to stand up.
16 Stajao je netko - lica mu ne poznah - ali likom bješe pred očima mojim. Posvuda tišina; uto začuh šapat:
It stood still, but I could not discern the appearance thereof; a form was before mine eyes; I heard a still voice:
17 'Zar je smrtnik koji pred Bogom pravedan? Zar je čovjek čist pred svojim Stvoriteljem?
'Shall mortal man be just before God? Shall a man be pure before his Maker?
18 Ni slugama svojim više ne vjeruje, i anđele svoje za grijeh okrivljuje -
Behold, He putteth no trust in His servants, and His angels He chargeth with folly;
19 kako ne bi onda goste stanova glinenih kojima je temelj u prahu zemaljskom. Gle, kao moljce njih sveudilj satiru:
How much more them that dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, who are crushed before the moth!
20 od jutra do mraka u prah pretvore, nestaju zasvagda - nitko i ne vidi.
Betwixt morning and evening they are shattered; they perish for ever without any regarding it.
21 Iščupan je kolčić njihova šatora, pogibaju skoro, mudrost ne spoznavši.'
Is not their tent-cord plucked up within them? They die, and that without wisdom.'
