1 ⲁ̅ ϩⲛ ⲧⲉϩⲟⲩⲉⲓⲧⲉ ⲛⲉϥϣⲟⲟⲡ ⲛϭⲓ ⲡϣⲁϫⲉ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲡϣⲁϫⲉ ⲛⲉϥϣⲟⲟⲡ ⲛⲛⲁϩⲣⲛ ⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲛⲉⲩⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ ⲡⲉ ⲡϣⲁϫⲉ
In the beginning the Word was; and the Word was with God; and the Word was God.
2 ⲃ̅ ⲡⲁⲓ ϩⲛ ⲧⲉϩⲟⲩⲉⲓⲧⲉ ⲛⲉϥϣⲟⲟⲡ ϩⲁⲧⲙ ⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ
He was in the beginning with God;
3 ⲅ̅ ⲛⲧⲁ ⲡⲧⲏⲣϥ ϣⲱⲡⲉ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲓⲧⲟⲟⲧϥ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲁϫⲛⲧϥ ⲙⲡⲉ ⲗⲁⲁⲩ ϣⲱⲡⲉ ⲡⲉⲛⲧⲁϥϣⲱⲡⲉ
through him all things came into being, and nothing came into being apart from him.
4 ⲇ̅ ϩⲣⲁⲓ ⲛϩⲏⲧϥ ⲡⲉ ⲡⲱⲛϩ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲡⲱⲛϩ ⲡⲉ ⲡⲟⲩⲟⲓⲛ ⲛⲣⲣⲱⲙⲉ
That which came into being in him was life; and the life was the light of humanity;
5 ⲉ̅ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲡⲟⲩⲟⲓⲛ ϥⲣ ⲟⲩⲟⲓⲛ ϩⲙ ⲡⲕⲁⲕⲉ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲙⲡⲉ ⲡⲕⲁⲕⲉ ⲧⲁϩⲟϥ
and the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness never overpowered it.
6 ⲋ̅ ⲁϥϣⲱⲡⲉ ⲛϭⲓ ⲟⲩⲣⲱⲙⲉ ⲉⲁⲩⲧⲛⲛⲟⲟⲩϥ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲓⲧⲙ ⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ ⲉⲡⲉϥⲣⲁⲛ ⲡⲉ ⲓⲱϩⲁⲛⲛⲏⲥ
There appeared a man sent from God, whose name was John;
7 ⲍ̅ ⲡⲁⲓ ⲁϥⲉⲓ ⲉⲩⲙⲛⲧⲙⲛⲧⲣⲉ ϫⲉ ⲉϥⲉⲣ ⲙⲛⲧⲣⲉ ⲉⲧⲃⲉ ⲡⲟⲩⲟⲉⲓⲛ ϫⲉⲕⲁⲥ ⲉⲣⲉⲟⲩⲟⲛ ⲛⲓⲙ ⲡⲓⲥⲧⲉⲩⲉ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲓⲧⲟⲟⲧϥ
he came as a witness – to bear witness to the light so that through him everyone might believe.
8 ⲏ̅ ⲛⲉ ⲡⲉⲧⲙⲙⲁⲩ ⲁⲛ ⲡⲉ ⲡⲟⲩⲟⲓⲛ ⲁⲗⲗⲁ ϫⲉⲕⲁⲥ ⲛⲧⲟϥ ⲉϥⲉⲣ ⲙⲛⲧⲣⲉ ⲉⲧⲃⲉ ⲡⲟⲩⲟⲓⲛ
He was not the light, but he came to bear witness to the light.
9 ⲑ̅ ⲡⲟⲩⲟⲓⲛ ⲙⲙⲉⲉ ⲉⲧⲣ ⲟⲩⲟⲓⲛ ⲉⲣⲱⲙⲉ ⲛⲓⲙ ⲡⲉ ⲉϥⲛⲏⲩ ⲉⲡⲕⲟⲥⲙⲟⲥ
That was the true light which enlightens everyone coming into the world.
10 ⲓ̅ ⲛⲉϥϩⲙ ⲡⲕⲟⲥⲙⲟⲥ ⲡⲉ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲛⲧⲁⲡⲕⲟⲥⲙⲟⲥ ϣⲱⲡⲉ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲓⲧⲟⲟⲧϥ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲙⲡⲉ ⲡⲕⲟⲥⲙⲟⲥ ⲥⲟⲩⲱⲛϥ
He was in the world; and through him the world came into being – yet the world did not know him.
11 ⲓ̅ⲁ̅ ⲁϥⲓ ϣⲁ ⲛⲉⲧⲉ ⲛⲟⲩϥ ⲛⲉ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲙⲡⲉ ⲛⲉⲧⲉ ⲛⲟⲩϥ ⲛⲉ ϫⲓⲧϥ
He came to his own – yet his own did not receive him.
12 ⲓ̅ⲃ̅ ⲛⲉⲛⲧⲁⲩϫⲓⲧϥ ⲇⲉ ⲁϥϯ ⲛⲁⲩ ⲛⲧⲉⲝⲟⲩⲥⲓⲁ ⲉⲧⲣⲉⲩϣⲱⲡⲉ ⲛϣⲏⲣⲉ ⲛⲧⲉ ⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ ⲛⲉⲧⲡⲓⲥⲧⲉⲩⲉ ⲉⲡⲉϥⲣⲁⲛ
But to all who did receive him he gave power to become children of God – to those who believe in his name.
13 ⲓ̅ⲅ̅ ⲛⲁⲓ ⲉⲛϩⲉⲛⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲁⲛ ⲛⲉ ⲛⲟⲩⲱϣ ⲛⲥⲛⲟϥ ϩⲓ ⲥⲁⲣⲝ ⲟⲩⲇⲉ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲙ ⲡⲟⲩⲱϣ ⲛⲣⲣⲱⲙⲉ ⲁⲗⲗⲁ ⲛⲧⲁⲩϫⲡⲟⲟⲩ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲙ ⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ
For not to natural conception, nor to human instincts, nor to human will did they owe the new life, but to God.
14 ⲓ̅ⲇ̅ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲡϣⲁϫⲉ ⲁϥⲣ ⲥⲁⲣⲝ ⲁϥⲟⲩⲱϩ ⲛⲙⲙⲁⲛ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲁⲛⲛⲁⲩ ⲉⲡⲉϥⲉⲟⲟⲩ ⲛⲑⲉ ⲙⲡⲉⲟⲟⲩ ⲛⲟⲩϣⲏⲣⲉ ⲛⲟⲩⲱⲧ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲓⲧⲙ ⲡⲉϥⲉⲓⲱⲧ ⲉϥϫⲏⲕ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲛⲭⲁⲣⲓⲥ ϩⲓ ⲙⲉ
And the Word became human, and lived among us, (We saw his glory – the glory of the Only Son sent from the Father), full of love and truth.
15 ⲓ̅ⲉ̅ ⲓⲱϩⲁⲛⲛⲏⲥ ϥⲣ ⲙⲛⲧⲣⲉ ⲉⲧⲃⲏⲏⲧϥ ⲁⲩⲱ ϥⲁϣⲕⲁⲕ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲉϥϫⲱ ⲙⲙⲟⲥ ϫⲉ ⲡⲁⲓ ⲡⲉ ⲛⲡⲧⲁⲓϫⲟⲟⲥ ⲉⲧⲃⲏⲏⲧϥ ϫⲉ ⲡⲉⲧⲛⲏⲩ ⲙⲛⲛⲥⲱⲉⲓ ⲁϥϣⲱⲡⲉ ϩⲁ ⲧⲁϩⲏ ϫⲉ ⲛⲉϥⲟ ⲛϣⲟⲣⲡ ⲉⲣⲟⲓ ⲡⲉ
(John bears witness to him; he cried aloud – for it was he who spoke – “He who is coming after me is now before me, for he was ever first”);
16 ⲓ̅ⲋ̅ ϫⲉ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲙ ⲡⲉϥϫⲱⲕ ⲁⲛⲟⲛ ⲧⲏⲣⲛ ⲛⲧⲁⲛϫⲓ ⲛⲟⲩⲱⲛϩ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲟⲩⲭⲁⲣⲓⲥ ⲉⲡⲙⲁ ⲛⲟⲩⲭⲁⲣⲓⲥ
out of his fullness we have all received gift after gift of love;
17 ⲓ̅ⲍ̅ ϫⲉ ⲡⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ⲛⲧⲁⲩⲧⲁⲁϥ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲓⲧⲙ ⲙⲱⲩⲥⲏⲥ ⲧⲉⲭⲁⲣⲓⲥ ϩⲱⲱⲥ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲧⲙⲉ ⲛⲧⲁⲥϣⲱⲡⲉ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲓⲧⲛ ⲓⲥ ⲡⲉⲭⲥ
for the Law was given through Moses, love and truth came through Jesus Christ.
18 ⲓ̅ⲏ̅ ⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ ⲙⲡⲉ ⲗⲁⲁⲩ ⲛⲁⲩ ⲉⲣⲟϥ ⲉⲛⲉϩ ⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ ⲡϣⲏⲣⲉ ⲛⲟⲩⲱⲧ ⲡⲉⲧϣⲟⲟⲡ ϩⲛ ⲕⲟⲩⲛϥ ⲙⲡⲉϥⲉⲓⲱⲧ ⲡⲉⲧⲙⲙⲁⲩ ⲡⲉ ⲛⲧⲁϥϣⲁϫⲉ ⲉⲣⲟϥ
No one has ever yet seen God; God the only Son, who is ever with the Father – he has revealed him.
19 ⲓ̅ⲑ̅ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲧⲁⲓ ⲧⲉ ⲧⲙⲛⲧⲙⲛⲧⲣⲉ ⲛⲓⲱϩⲁⲛⲛⲏⲥ ⲛⲧⲉⲣⲉⲛⲓⲟⲩⲇⲁⲓ ⲧⲛⲛⲟⲟⲩ ϣⲁⲣⲟϥ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲛ ⲑⲓⲉⲣⲟⲩⲥⲁⲗⲏⲙ ⲛϩⲉⲛⲟⲩⲏⲏⲃ ⲙⲛ ϩⲉⲛⲗⲉⲩⲉⲓⲧⲏⲥ ϫⲉⲕⲁⲥ ⲉⲩⲉϫⲛⲟⲩϥ ϫⲉ ⲛⲧⲕ ⲛⲓⲙ
When the religious authorities in Jerusalem sent some Priests and Levites to ask John – “Who are you?”,
20 ⲕ̅ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲁϥϩⲟⲙⲟⲗⲟⲅⲓ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲙⲡ︦ϥⲁⲣⲛⲁ ϫⲉ ⲁⲛⲟⲕ ⲁⲛ ⲡⲉ ⲡⲉⲭⲥ
he told them clearly and simply, “I am not the Christ.”
21 ⲕ̅ⲁ̅ ⲁⲩϫⲛⲟⲩϥ ⲇⲉ ϫⲉ ⲛⲧⲟⲕ ⲡⲉ ϩⲏⲗⲓⲁⲥ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲡⲉϫⲁϥ ϫⲉ ⲛⲁⲛⲟⲕ ⲁⲛ ⲡⲉ ⲛⲧⲟⲕ ⲡⲉ ⲡⲉⲡⲣⲟⲫⲏⲧⲏⲥ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲁϥⲟⲩⲱϣⲃ ⲙⲙⲟⲛ
“What then?” they asked. “Are you Elijah?” “No,” he said, “I am not.” “Are you ‘the prophet’?” He answered, “No.”
22 ⲕ̅ⲃ̅ ⲡⲉϫⲁⲩ ϫⲉ ⲛⲧⲟⲕ ϭⲉ ⲛⲧⲕ ⲛⲓⲙ ϫⲉⲕⲁⲥ ⲉⲛⲉϫⲓ ⲡⲟⲩⲱ ⲛⲛⲉⲛⲧⲁⲩⲧⲁⲟⲩⲟⲛ ⲉⲕϫⲱ ⲙⲙⲟⲥ ϫⲉ ⲟⲩ ⲉⲧⲃⲏⲏⲧⲕ
“Who then are you?” they continued. “Tell us so that we have an answer to give to those who have sent us. What do you say about yourself?”
23 ⲕ̅ⲅ̅ ⲡⲉϫⲁϥ ϫⲉ ⲁⲛⲟⲕ ⲧⲉ ⲧⲉⲥⲙⲏ ⲙⲡⲉⲧⲱϣ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲓ ⲡϫⲁⲓⲉ ϫⲉ ⲥⲟⲟⲩⲧⲛ ⲛⲧⲉϩⲓⲏ ⲙⲡϫⲟⲉⲓⲥ ⲕⲁⲧⲁ ⲑⲉ ⲉⲛⲧⲁϥϫⲟⲟⲥ ⲛϭⲓ ⲏⲥⲁⲓⲁⲥ ⲡⲉⲡⲣⲟⲫⲏⲧⲏⲥ
“I,” he answered, “am – ‘The voice of one crying aloud in the wilderness: make a straight road for the Lord’, as the prophet Isaiah said.”
24 ⲕ̅ⲇ̅ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲁⲩⲧⲛⲛⲉⲩ ϩⲟⲓⲛⲉ ϣⲁⲣⲟϥ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲛ ⲛⲉⲫⲁⲣⲓⲥⲁⲓⲟⲥ
These men had been sent from the Pharisees;
25 ⲕ̅ⲉ̅ ⲁⲩϫⲛⲟⲩϥ ϫⲉ ⲉⲧⲃⲉ ⲟⲩ ϭⲉ ⲕⲃⲁⲡⲧⲓⲍⲉ ⲉϣϫⲉ ⲛⲧⲟⲕ ⲁⲛ ⲡⲉ ⲡⲉⲭⲥ ⲟⲩⲇⲉ ϩⲏⲗⲉⲓⲁⲥ ⲟⲩⲇⲉ ⲡⲉⲡⲣⲟⲫⲏⲧⲏⲥ
and their next question was, “Why then do you baptize, if you are not the Christ or Elijah or ‘the prophet’?”
26 ⲕ̅ⲋ̅ ⲁⲓⲱϩⲁⲛⲛⲏⲥ ⲟⲩⲱϣⲃ ⲉϥϫⲱ ⲙⲙⲟⲥ ⲛⲁⲩ ϫⲉ ⲁⲛⲟⲕ ⲉⲓⲃⲁⲡⲧⲓⲍⲉ ⲙⲙⲱⲧⲛ ϩⲛ ⲟⲩⲙⲟⲟⲩ ϥⲁϩⲉ ⲇⲉ ⲉⲣⲁⲧϥ ϩⲛ ⲧⲉⲧⲛⲙⲏⲧⲉ ⲡⲁⲓ ⲉⲛⲧⲉⲧⲛⲥⲟⲟⲩⲛ ⲙⲙⲟϥ ⲁⲛ
John’s answer was – “I baptize with water, but among you stands one whom you do not know;
27 ⲕ̅ⲍ̅ ⲡⲉⲧⲛⲏⲩ ⲙⲛⲛⲥⲱⲉⲓ ⲡⲁⲓ ⲉⲛϯⲙⲡϣⲁ ⲁⲛ ⲛⲃⲱⲗ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲙⲡⲙⲟⲩⲥ ⲙⲡⲉϥⲧⲟⲟⲩⲉ
he is coming after me, yet I am not worthy even to unfasten his sandal.”
28 ⲕ̅ⲏ̅ ⲛⲁⲓ ⲁⲩϣⲱⲡⲉ ϩⲛ ⲃⲏⲑⲁⲣⲁⲃⲁ ⲙⲡⲓⲕⲣⲟ ⲙⲡⲓⲟⲣⲇⲁⲛⲏⲥ ⲙⲡⲁ ⲉⲛⲉⲣⲉ ⲓⲱϩⲁⲛⲛⲏⲥ ⲃⲁⲡⲧⲓⲍⲉ ⲛϩⲏⲧϥ
This happened at Bethany, across the Jordan, where John was baptizing.
29 ⲕ̅ⲑ̅ ⲙⲡⲉϥⲣⲁⲥⲧⲉ ⲁϥⲛⲁⲩ ⲉⲓⲥ ⲉϥⲛⲏⲩ ϣⲁⲣⲟϥ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲡⲉϫⲁϥ ϫⲉ ⲉⲓⲥ ⲡⲉϩⲓⲉⲓⲃ ⲙⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ ⲡⲉⲧⲛⲁϥⲓ ⲙⲡⲛⲟⲃⲉ ⲙⲡⲕⲟⲥⲙⲟⲥ
The next day John saw Jesus coming towards him, and exclaimed, “Here is the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!
30 ⲗ̅ ⲡⲁⲓ ⲡⲉ ⲛⲧⲁⲓϫⲟⲟⲥ ⲉⲧⲃⲏⲏⲧϥ ϫⲉ ⲟⲩⲛ ⲟⲩⲣⲱⲙⲉ ⲛⲏⲩ ϩⲓ ⲡⲁϩⲟⲩ ⲙⲙⲟⲟⲓ ⲉⲁϥϣⲱⲡⲉ ϩⲁ ⲧⲁϩⲏ ϫⲉ ⲛⲉϥⲟ ⲛϣⲟⲣⲡ ⲉⲣⲟⲓ ⲡⲉ
I was talking about him when I said ‘After me there is coming a man who ranks ahead of me, because before I was born he already was.’
31 ⲗ̅ⲁ̅ ⲁⲛⲟⲕ ϩⲱ ⲛⲉⲓⲥⲟⲟⲩⲛ ⲙⲙⲟϥ ⲁⲛ ⲡⲉ ⲁⲗⲗⲁ ϫⲉⲕⲁⲥ ⲉϥⲉⲟⲩⲱⲛϩ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲙⲡⲓⲥⲣⲁⲏⲗ ⲉⲧⲃⲉ ⲡⲁⲓ ⲁⲓⲉⲓ ⲁⲛⲟⲕ ⲉⲓⲃⲁⲡⲧⲓⲍⲉ ϩⲛ ⲟⲩⲙⲟⲟⲩ
I did not know who he was, but I have come baptizing with water to make him known to Israel.”
32 ⲗ̅ⲃ̅ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲁϥⲣ ⲙⲛⲧⲣⲉ ⲛϭⲓ ⲓⲱϩⲁⲛⲛⲏⲥ ⲉϥϫⲱ ⲙⲙⲟⲥ ϫⲉ ⲁⲉⲓⲛⲁⲩ ⲉⲡⲉⲡⲛⲁ ⲉϥⲛⲏⲩ ⲉⲡⲉⲥⲏⲧ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲛ ⲧⲡⲉ ⲛⲑⲉ ⲛⲟⲩϭⲣⲟⲟⲙⲡⲉ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲁϥⲟⲩⲱϩ ⲉϩⲣⲁⲓ ⲉϫⲱϥ
John also said: “I saw the Spirit come down from heaven like a dove and rest on him.
33 ⲗ̅ⲅ̅ ⲁⲛⲟⲕ ϩⲱ ⲛⲉⲓⲥⲟⲟⲩⲛ ⲙⲙⲟϥ ⲁⲛ ⲡⲉ ⲁⲗⲗⲁ ⲡⲉⲛⲧⲁϥⲧⲛⲛⲟⲟⲩⲧ ⲉⲃⲁⲡⲧⲓⲍⲉ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲙ ⲡⲙⲟⲟⲩ ⲡⲉⲧⲙⲙⲁⲩ ⲡⲉ ⲛⲧⲁϥϫⲟⲟⲥ ⲛⲁⲓ ϫⲉ ⲡⲉⲧⲕⲛⲁⲛⲁⲩ ⲉⲡⲉⲡⲛⲁ ⲉϥⲛⲏⲩ ⲉⲡⲉⲥⲏⲧ ⲉϥϭⲉⲉⲧ ⲉϩⲣⲁⲓ ⲉϫⲱϥ ⲡⲁⲓ ⲡⲉⲧⲛⲁⲃⲁⲡⲧⲓⲍⲉ ϩⲛ ⲟⲩⲡⲛⲁ ⲉϥⲟⲩⲁⲁⲃ ⲙⲛ ⲟⲩⲕⲱϩⲧ
I myself did not know him, but he who sent me to baptize with water, he said to me ‘He on whom you see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him – he it is who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’
34 ⲗ̅ⲇ̅ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲁⲛⲟⲕ ⲁⲓⲛⲁⲩ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲁⲓⲣ ⲙⲛⲧⲣⲉ ϫⲉ ⲡⲁⲓ ⲡⲉ ⲡⲥⲱⲧⲡ ⲛϣⲏⲣⲉ ⲛⲧⲉ ⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ
This I have seen myself, and I have declared my belief that he is the Son of God.”
35 ⲗ̅ⲉ̅ ⲙⲡⲉϥⲣⲁⲥⲧⲉ ⲟⲛ ⲛⲉⲣⲉⲓⲱϩⲁⲛⲛⲏⲥ ⲁϩⲉⲣⲁⲧϥ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲥⲛⲁⲩ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲛ ⲛⲉϥⲙⲁⲑⲏⲧⲏⲥ
The next day, when John was standing with two of his disciples,
36 ⲗ̅ⲋ̅ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲛⲧⲉⲣⲉϥϭⲱϣⲧ ⲛⲥⲁ ⲓⲥ ⲉϥⲙⲟⲟϣⲉ ⲡⲉϫⲁϥ ϫⲉ ⲉⲓⲥ ⲡⲉⲭⲥ ⲡⲉϩⲓⲉⲓⲃ ⲙⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ
he looked at Jesus as he passed and exclaimed, “There is the Lamb of God!”
37 ⲗ̅ⲍ̅ ⲁⲡⲉϥⲙⲁⲑⲏⲧⲏⲥ ⲥⲛⲁⲩ ⲥⲱⲧⲙ ⲉⲣⲟϥ ⲉϥϣⲁϫⲉ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲁⲩⲟⲩⲁϩⲟⲩ ⲛⲥⲁ ⲓⲥ
The two disciples heard him say this, and followed Jesus.
38 ⲗ̅ⲏ̅ ⲛⲧⲉⲣⲉϥⲕⲟⲧϥ ⲇⲉ ⲛϭⲓ ⲓⲥ ⲁϥⲛⲁⲩ ⲉⲣⲟⲟⲩ ⲉⲩⲟⲩⲏϩ ⲛⲥⲱϥ ⲡⲉϫⲁϥ ⲛⲁⲩ ϫⲉ ⲉⲧⲉⲧⲛϣⲓⲛⲉ ⲛⲥⲁ ⲟⲩ ⲡⲉϫⲁⲩ ⲛⲁϥ ϫⲉ ϩⲣⲁⲃⲃⲉⲓ ⲡⲉϣⲁⲩⲟⲩⲁϩⲙⲉϩ ϫⲉ ⲡⲥⲁϩ ⲉⲕⲟⲩⲏϩ ⲧⲱⲛ
But Jesus turned around, and saw them following. “What are you looking for?” he asked. “Rabbi,” they answered (or, as we should say, ‘Teacher’), “where are you staying?”
39 ⲗ̅ⲑ̅ ⲡⲉϫⲁϥ ⲛⲁⲩ ϫⲉ ⲁⲙⲏⲉⲓⲧⲛ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲧⲉⲧⲛⲁⲛⲁⲩ ⲁⲩⲉⲓ ϭⲉ ⲁⲩⲛⲁⲩ ϫⲉ ⲉϥⲟⲩⲏϩ ⲧⲱⲛ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲁⲩϣⲱⲡⲉ ϩⲁϩⲧⲏϥ ⲙⲡⲉϩⲟⲟⲩ ⲉⲧⲙⲙⲁⲩ ⲛⲉⲡⲛⲁⲩ ⲛϫⲡ ⲙⲏⲧⲉ ⲡⲉ
“Come, and you will see,” he replied. So they went, and saw where he was staying, and spent that day with him. It was then about four in the afternoon.
40 ⲙ̅ ⲁⲛⲇⲣⲉⲁⲥ ⲡⲥⲟⲛ ⲛⲥⲓⲙⲱⲛ ⲡⲉⲧⲣⲟⲥ ⲛⲉⲟⲩⲁ ⲡⲉ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲙ ⲡⲉⲥⲛⲁⲩ ⲉⲛⲧⲁⲩⲥⲱⲧⲙ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲓⲧⲛ ⲓⲱϩⲁⲛⲛⲏⲥ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲁⲩⲟⲩⲁϩⲟⲩ ⲛⲥⲱϥ
One of the two, who heard what John said and followed Jesus, was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother.
41 ⲙ̅ⲁ̅ ⲡⲁⲓ ⲁϥϩⲉ ⲉⲡⲉϥⲥⲟⲛ ⲥⲓⲙⲱⲛ ⲛϣⲟⲣⲡ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲡⲉϫⲁϥ ⲛⲁϥ ϫⲉ ⲁⲛϩⲉ ⲉⲙⲉⲥⲥⲓⲁⲥ ⲡⲉϣⲁⲩⲟⲩⲁϩⲙⲉϥ ϫⲉ ⲡⲉⲭⲥ
He first found his own brother Simon, and said to him, “We have found the Messiah!” (a word which means ‘Christ,’ or ‘Consecrated’.)
42 ⲙ̅ⲃ̅ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲁϥⲛⲧϥ ⲉⲣⲁⲧϥ ⲛⲓⲥ ⲓⲥ ⲇⲉ ⲛⲧⲉⲣⲉϥϭⲱϣⲧ ⲉϩⲟⲩⲛ ⲉϩⲣⲁϥ ⲡⲉϫⲁϥ ϫⲉ ⲛⲧⲟⲕ ⲡⲉ ⲥⲓⲙⲱⲛ ⲡϣⲏⲣⲉ ⲛⲓⲱϩⲁⲛⲛⲏⲥ ⲛⲧⲟⲕ ⲉⲩⲉⲙⲟⲩⲧⲉ ⲉⲣⲟⲕ ϫⲉ ⲕⲏⲫⲁ ⲡⲉϣⲁⲩⲟⲩⲁϩⲙⲉϥ ϫⲉ ⲡⲉⲧⲣⲟⲥ
Then he brought him to Jesus. Looking straight at him, Jesus said, “You are Simon, the son of John; you will be called Cephas” (which means ‘Peter,’ or ‘Rock’).
43 ⲙ̅ⲅ̅ ⲙⲡⲉϥⲣⲁⲥⲧⲉ ⲁϥⲟⲩⲱϣ ⲉⲉⲓ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲉⲧⲅⲁⲗⲓⲗⲁⲓⲁ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲁϥϩⲉ ⲉⲫⲓⲗⲓⲡⲡⲟⲥ ⲡⲉϫⲁϥ ⲛⲁϥ ⲛϭⲓ ⲓⲥ ϫⲉ ⲟⲩⲁϩⲕ ⲛⲥⲱⲉⲓ
The following day Jesus decided to leave for Galilee. He found Philip, and said to him, “Follow me.”
44 ⲙ̅ⲇ̅ ⲫⲓⲗⲓⲡⲡⲟⲥ ⲇⲉ ⲛⲉⲩⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲡⲉ ϩⲛ ⲃⲏⲇⲥⲁⲓⲇⲁ ⲧⲡⲟⲗⲓⲥ ⲛⲁⲛⲇⲣⲉⲁⲥ ⲙⲛ ⲡⲉⲧⲣⲟⲥ
Philip was from Bethsaida, the same town as Andrew and Peter.
45 ⲙ̅ⲉ̅ ⲁⲫⲓⲗⲓⲡⲡⲟⲥ ϩⲉ ⲉⲛⲁⲑⲁⲛⲁⲏⲗ ⲡⲉϫⲁϥ ⲛⲁϥ ϫⲉ ⲡⲉⲛⲧⲁⲙⲱⲩⲥⲏⲥ ⲥϩⲁⲓ ⲉⲧⲃⲏⲏⲧϥ ϩⲙ ⲡⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲛⲉⲡⲣⲟⲫⲏⲧⲏⲥ ⲁⲛϩⲉ ⲉⲣⲟϥ ⲓⲥ ⲡϣⲏⲣⲉ ⲛⲓⲱⲥⲏⲫ ⲡⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲛ ⲛⲁⲍⲁⲣⲉⲑ
He found Nathanael and said to him, “We have found him of whom Moses wrote in the Law, and of whom the prophets also wrote – Jesus of Nazareth, Joseph’s son!”
46 ⲙ̅ⲋ̅ ⲡⲉϫⲉ ⲛⲁⲑⲁⲛⲁⲏⲗ ⲛⲁϥ ϫⲉ ⲉⲣⲉϣ ⲟⲩⲁⲅⲁⲑⲟⲛ ⲛⲁϣⲱⲡⲉ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲛ ⲛⲁⲍⲁⲣⲉⲑ ⲡⲉϫⲉ ⲫⲓⲗⲓⲡⲡⲟⲥ ⲛⲁϥ ϫⲉ ⲁⲙⲟⲩ ⲛⲅ︦ⲛⲁⲩ
“Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” asked Nathanael. “Come and see,” replied Philip.
47 ⲙ̅ⲍ̅ ⲁⲓⲥ ⲛⲁⲩ ⲉⲛⲁⲑⲁⲛⲁⲏⲗ ⲉϥⲛⲏⲩ ϣⲁⲣⲟϥ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲡⲉϫⲁϥ ⲉⲧⲃⲏⲏⲧϥ ϫⲉ ⲉⲓⲥ ⲟⲩⲓⲥⲣⲁⲏⲗⲉⲓⲧⲏⲥ ⲛⲁⲙⲉ ⲉⲙⲙⲛⲕⲣⲟϥ ⲛϩⲏⲧϥ
When Jesus saw Nathanael coming towards him, he said, “Here is a true Israelite, in whom there is no deceit!”
48 ⲙ̅ⲏ̅ ⲡⲉϫⲉ ⲛⲁⲑⲁⲛⲁⲏⲗ ⲛⲁϥ ϫⲉ ⲉⲕⲥⲟⲟⲩⲛ ⲙⲙⲟⲓ ⲧⲱⲛ ⲁϥⲟⲩⲱϣⲃ ⲛϭⲓ ⲓⲥ ⲡⲉϫⲁϥ ⲛⲁϥ ϫⲉ ⲉⲙⲡⲁⲧⲉ ⲫⲓⲗⲓⲡⲡⲟⲥ ⲙⲟⲩⲧⲉ ⲉⲣⲟⲕ ⲛϩⲟⲩⲛ ϩⲁ ⲧⲃⲱ ⲛⲕⲛⲧⲉ ⲁⲓⲛⲁⲩ ⲉⲣⲟⲕ
“How do you know me?” asked Nathanael. “Even before Philip called you,” replied Jesus, “when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.”
49 ⲙ̅ⲑ̅ ⲁⲛⲁⲑⲁⲛⲁⲏⲗ ⲟⲩⲱϣⲃ ⲛⲁϥ ϫⲉ ϩⲣⲁⲃⲃⲉⲓ ⲛⲧⲟⲕ ⲡⲉ ⲡϣⲏⲣⲉ ⲙⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ ⲛⲧⲟⲕ ⲡⲉ ⲡⲣⲣⲟ ⲙⲡⲓⲥⲣⲁⲏⲗ
“Rabbi,” Nathanael exclaimed, “you are the Son of God, you are king of Israel!”
50 ⲛ̅ ⲁⲓⲥ ⲟⲩⲱϣⲃ ⲡⲉϫⲁϥ ⲛⲁϥ ϫⲉ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϫⲉ ⲁⲉⲓϫⲟⲟⲥ ⲛⲁⲕ ϫⲉ ⲁⲓⲛⲁⲩ ⲉⲣⲟⲕ ⲛϩⲟⲩⲛ ϩⲁ ⲧⲃⲱ ⲛⲕⲛⲧⲉ ⲁⲕⲡⲓⲥⲧⲉⲩⲉ ⲕⲛⲁⲛⲁⲩ ⲉⲛⲉⲧⲛⲁⲁⲁⲩ ⲉⲛⲁⲓ
“Do you believe in me,” asked Jesus, “because I told you that I saw you under the fig tree? You will see greater things than those!
51 ⲛ̅ⲁ̅ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲡⲉϫⲁϥ ⲛⲁϥ ϫⲉ ϩⲁⲙⲏⲛ ϩⲁⲙⲏⲛ ϯϫⲱ ⲙⲙⲟⲥ ⲛⲏⲧⲛ ϫⲉ ⲧⲉⲧⲛⲁⲛⲁⲩ ⲉⲧⲡⲉ ⲉⲥⲟⲩⲏⲛ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲛⲁⲅⲅⲉⲗⲟⲥ ⲙⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ ⲉⲩⲛⲁ ⲉϩⲣⲁⲓ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲉⲩⲛⲏⲩ ⲉⲡⲉⲥⲏⲧ ⲉϫⲙ ⲡϣⲏⲣⲉ ⲙⲡⲣⲱⲙⲉ
In truth I tell you,” he added, “you will all see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.”
