1 ⲁ̅ ⲙⲡⲉⲣϣⲱⲡⲉ ⲛϩⲁϩ ⲛⲥⲁϩ ⲛⲁⲥⲛⲏⲩ ⲉⲧⲉⲧⲛⲥⲟⲟⲩⲛ ϫⲉ ⲧⲛⲛⲁϫⲓ ⲛⲟⲩⲛⲟϭ ⲛⲕⲣⲓⲙⲁ ⲧⲏⲣⲛ
My brothers, not many of you should become teachers, knowing that we shall receive a stricter judgment.
2 ⲃ̅ ⲧⲉⲛϩⲏⲩ ⲅⲁⲣ ⲛϩⲁϩ ⲛⲥⲟⲡ ⲧⲏⲣⲏ ⲉϣⲱⲡⲉ ⲟⲩⲛ ⲟⲩⲁ ⲛϥϩⲏⲩ ⲁⲛ ϩⲙ ⲡⲉϥϣⲁϫⲉ ⲉⲓ ⲡⲁⲓ ⲟⲩⲣⲱⲙⲉ ⲛⲧⲉⲗⲓⲟⲥ ⲡⲉ ⲉⲩⲟⲩⲛ ϭⲟⲙ ⲙⲙⲟϥ ⲉⲭⲁⲗⲓⲛⲟⲩ ⲙⲡⲉϥⲕⲉⲥⲱⲙⲁ ⲧⲏⲣϥ
Because we all stumble in many things. If anyone does not stumble in word, he is a perfect man, being able to bridle the whole body as well.
3 ⲅ̅ ⲉⲓⲥ ϩⲏⲏⲧⲉ ⲧⲉⲛⲛⲟⲩϫ ⲛⲛⲉⲭⲁⲗⲓⲛⲟⲥ ⲉⲣⲱⲟⲩ ⲛⲛⲉϩⲧⲱⲱⲣ ⲉⲧⲣⲉⲩⲥⲱⲧⲙ ⲛⲁⲛ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲧⲛⲕⲧⲟ ⲙⲡⲉⲩⲕⲉⲥⲱⲙⲁ ⲧⲏⲣϥ
Consider, we put bits in horses' mouths for them to obey us, and we guide their whole body.
4 ⲇ̅ ⲉⲓⲥ ⲛⲕⲉϫⲏⲩ ⲉⲧⲟ ⲛⲧⲉⲓϭⲟⲧ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲉⲩⲣ ϩⲱⲧ ⲙⲙⲟⲟⲩ ϩⲓⲧⲛ ϩⲉⲛⲧⲏⲩ ⲉⲩⲛⲁϣⲧ ⲥⲉⲕⲧⲟ ⲙⲙⲟⲟⲩ ϩⲓⲧⲛ ϩⲉⲛⲕⲟⲩⲓ ⲛϩⲓⲏ ⲉⲡⲥⲁ ⲉⲧⲉϥⲟⲩⲁϣϥ ⲛϭⲓ ⲡⲉⲧⲉⲣ ϩⲙⲉ
Consider also the ships: although they are so large and are driven by fierce winds, they are guided by a very small rudder wherever the impulse of the pilot may desire.
5 ⲉ̅ ⲧⲁⲓ ϩⲱⲱϥ ⲧⲉ ⲑⲉ ⲙⲡⲗⲁⲥ ⲟⲩⲕⲟⲩⲓ ⲙⲙⲉⲗⲟⲥ ⲡⲉ ⲁⲩⲱ ϥϫⲉ ⲛⲟϭ ⲛϣⲁϫⲉ ⲉⲓⲥ ϩⲏⲏⲧⲉ ϣⲁⲣⲉ ⲟⲩⲕⲟⲩⲓ ⲛⲕⲱϩⲧ ϫⲉⲣⲉ ⲟⲩⲛⲟϭ ⲛϩⲩⲗⲏ
So also the tongue is a small member and boasts great things. Just look at how great a forest a little fire can kindle!
6 ⲋ̅ ⲡⲗⲁⲥ ϩⲱⲱϥ ⲟⲩⲕⲱϩⲧ ⲡⲉ ⲡⲕⲟⲥⲙⲟⲥ ⲛⲇⲁⲇⲓⲕⲓⲁ ⲡⲉ ⲡⲗⲁⲥ ϩⲛ ⲛⲙⲙⲉⲗⲟⲥ ⲡⲁⲓ ⲉⲧϫⲱϩⲙ ⲙⲡⲥⲱⲙⲁ ⲧⲏⲣϥ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲉⲧⲉⲙϩⲟ ⲙⲡⲉⲧⲣⲟⲭⲟⲥ ⲙⲡⲉϫⲡⲟ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲉⲩⲣⲱⲕϩ ⲙⲙⲟϥ ϩⲓⲧⲛ ⲧⲅⲉϩⲉⲛⲛⲁ (Geenna )
And the tongue is a fire! The organization of wickedness, that is how the tongue is placed among our members, defiling the whole body and setting on fire the course of life, itself being set on fire by hell. (Geenna )
7 ⲍ̅ ⲫⲩⲥⲓⲥ ⲅⲁⲣ ⲛⲓⲙ ⲛⲑⲏⲣⲓⲟⲛ ⲙⲛ ⲛⲉϩⲁⲗⲁⲧⲉ ⲙⲛ ⲛⲉϫⲁⲧϥⲉ ⲙⲛ ⲛⲉⲧⲃⲧ ⲥⲉⲥⲱⲙ ⲙⲙⲟⲟⲩ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲁⲩⲥⲟⲙⲟⲩ ϩⲛ ⲧⲉⲫⲩⲥⲓⲥ ⲛⲛⲣⲱⲙⲉ
Every kind of animal and bird, reptile and sea creature, is tamed and has been tamed by the human race,
8 ⲏ̅ ⲡⲗⲁⲥ ⲇⲉ ⲉⲓ ⲙⲛ ϭⲟⲙ ⲛⲗⲁⲁⲩ ⲛⲣⲱⲙⲉ ⲇⲁⲙⲁⲍⲉ ⲙⲙⲟϥ ⲡⲁⲓ ⲉⲧϣⲧⲟⲣⲧⲣ ⲉⲧϩⲟⲟⲩ ⲉⲧⲙⲉϩ ⲙⲙⲁⲧⲟⲩ ⲛⲣⲉϥⲙⲟⲟⲩⲟⲩⲧ
but no one among men is able to tame the tongue—an uncontrollable evil, full of deadly poison.
9 ⲑ̅ ϩⲣⲁⲓ ⲛϩⲏⲧϥ ⲧⲛⲥⲙⲟⲩ ⲉⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ ⲡⲉⲓⲱⲧ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲉϩⲣⲁⲓ ⲛϩⲏⲧϥ ⲧⲛⲥⲁϩⲟⲩ ⲛⲛⲣⲱⲙⲉ ⲛⲁⲓ ⲛⲧⲁⲩⲧⲁⲙⲓⲟⲟⲩ ⲕⲁⲧⲁ ⲡⲉⲓⲛⲉ ⲙⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ
With it we bless God and Father, and with it we curse the people who have been made in God's likeness.
10 ⲓ̅ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲛ ⲧⲉⲓⲧⲁⲡⲣⲟ ⲛⲛⲟⲩⲱⲧ ϥⲛⲏⲩ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲛϭⲓ ⲡⲉⲥⲙⲟⲩ ⲙⲛ ⲡⲥⲁϩⲟⲩ ϣϣⲉ ⲁⲛ ⲛⲁⲥⲛⲏⲩ ⲉⲧⲣⲉⲛⲁⲓ ϣⲱⲡⲉ ⲛⲧⲉⲓϩⲉ
Out of the same mouth proceed blessings and curses. My brothers, these things should not be that way.
11 ⲓ̅ⲁ̅ ⲙⲏⲧⲉⲓ ϣⲁⲣⲉ ϩⲉⲛϩⲟⲛⲃⲉ ⲧⲁⲩⲟ ⲉϩⲣⲁⲓ ϩⲛ ϯⲓⲙⲟⲩⲙⲉ ⲛⲟⲩⲱⲧ ⲙⲡⲙⲟⲟⲩ ⲉⲧϩⲟⲗϭ ⲙⲛ ⲡⲉⲧⲙⲟⲗϩ
A spring does not send out sweet and bitter water from the same opening, does it?
12 ⲓ̅ⲃ̅ ⲛⲁⲥⲛⲏⲩ ⲙⲏ ⲟⲩⲛ ϭⲟⲙ ⲉⲧⲣⲉⲟⲩⲃⲱ ⲛⲕⲛⲧⲉ ⲧⲁⲩⲉ ϫⲟⲉⲓⲧ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲏ ⲧⲉ ⲟⲩⲃⲱ ⲛⲉⲗⲟⲟⲗⲉ ⲧⲁⲩⲉ ⲕⲛⲧⲉ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲟⲩⲧⲉ ⲛⲛⲉϣ ⲙⲗϩ ⲣ ⲙⲟⲟⲩ ⲉϥϩⲟⲗϭ
Can a fig tree, my brothers, bear olives, or a grape vine figs? Thus no spring yields salt water and sweet.
13 ⲓ̅ⲅ̅ ⲛⲓⲙ ⲡⲉ ⲡⲥⲁⲃⲉ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲡⲣⲙⲛϩⲏⲧ ⲉⲧⲉⲛϩⲏⲧ ⲧⲏⲩⲧⲛ ⲙⲁⲣⲉϥⲟⲩⲱⲛϩ ⲛⲛⲉϥϩⲉⲃⲏⲩⲉ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲛ ⲧⲉϥⲁⲛⲁⲥⲧⲣⲟⲫⲏ ⲉⲧⲛⲁⲛⲟⲩⲥ ϩⲛ ⲟⲩⲙⲛⲧⲣⲙⲣⲁϣ ⲙⲛ ⲟⲩⲥⲟⲫⲓⲁ
Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him exhibit his works in the meekness of wisdom, by his good way of life.
14 ⲓ̅ⲇ̅ ⲉϣϫⲉ ⲟⲩⲛ ⲟⲩⲕⲱϩ ⲇⲉ ⲉϥⲥⲁϣⲉ ϩⲙ ⲡⲉⲧⲉⲛϩⲏⲧ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲟⲩϯ ⲧⲱⲛ ⲙⲡⲣϣⲟⲩϣⲟⲩ ⲙⲙⲱⲧⲛ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲛⲧⲉⲧⲛϫⲓ ϭⲟⲗ ⲉⲧⲙⲉ
But if you have bitter envy and selfish ambition in your heart, do not boast and lie against the truth—
15 ⲓ̅ⲉ̅ ⲛⲧⲁⲓ ⲁⲛ ⲧⲉ ⲧⲥⲟⲫⲓⲁ ⲉⲧⲛⲏⲩ ⲉⲡⲉⲥⲏⲧ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲛ ⲧⲡⲉ ⲁⲗⲗⲁ ⲟⲩⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲙ ⲡⲕⲁϩ ⲧⲉ ⲙⲡⲯⲩⲭⲓⲕⲟⲛ ⲙⲙⲛⲧⲣⲉϥϣⲟⲟⲣ
such ‘wisdom’ is not coming down from Above, but is earthly, sensual, demonic.
16 ⲓ̅ⲋ̅ ⲡⲙⲁ ⲅⲁⲣ ⲉⲧⲉⲣⲉⲕⲱϩ ϩⲓ ϯ ⲧⲱⲛ ⲛϩⲏⲧϥ ϥⲙⲙⲟⲟⲩ ⲛϭⲓ ⲡⲉϣⲧⲟⲣⲧⲣ ⲙⲛ ϩⲱⲃ ⲛⲓⲙ ⲉⲑⲟⲟⲩ
Because where envy and selfish ambition exist, there is unruliness and every foul practice.
17 ⲓ̅ⲍ̅ ⲧⲥⲟⲫⲓⲁ ⲇⲉ ⲧⲉ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲛ ⲧⲡⲉ ⲛϣⲟⲣⲡ ⲙⲛ ⲥⲟⲩⲁⲁⲃ ⲙⲛⲛⲥⲱⲥ ⲟⲩⲉⲓⲣⲏⲛⲏⲕⲟⲛ ⲧⲉ ⲛϩⲁⲕ ⲛⲣⲉϥⲉⲡⲉⲓⲑⲩⲙⲉⲓ ⲉⲡⲡⲉⲧⲛⲁⲛⲟⲩⲃ ⲉⲥⲙⲉϩ ⲛⲛⲁ ϩⲓ ⲕⲁⲣⲡⲟⲥ ⲛⲛⲁⲛⲟⲩϥ ⲉⲙⲉⲥⲇⲓⲁⲕⲣⲓⲛⲉ ⲙⲉⲥϩⲩⲡⲟⲕⲣⲓⲛⲉ
In contrast, the wisdom from Above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, compliant, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.
18 ⲓ̅ⲏ̅ ⲡⲕⲁⲣⲡⲟⲥ ⲇⲉ ⲛⲇⲓⲕⲁⲓⲟⲥⲩⲛⲏ ⲉⲩϫⲡⲟ ⲙⲙⲟϥ ϩⲛ ⲟⲩⲉⲓⲣⲏⲛⲏ ⲛⲛⲉⲧⲉⲓⲣⲉ ⲛϯⲣⲏⲛⲏ
Now the fruit of righteousness is planted in peace by those making peace.
