< Yohana 11 >
1 Mundu jumo jwakuŵilanjikwa che Lasalo juŵatamaga nsinda wa ku Besania ŵaliji jwakulwala. Che Maliamu ni nlumbugwe che Masa ŵatamaga nsinda ulaula.
Now a certain man, named Lazarus, of Bethany, was lying ill-- Bethany being the village of Mary and her sister Martha.
2 Che Maliamu ju ni jwejula juŵampakesye mauta ga kununjila Ambuje Che Yesu mmakongolo ni kwasyula ni umbo syakwe. Che Lasalo mpwakwe che Maliamu ni juŵalwalaga.
(It was the Mary who poured the perfume over the Lord and wiped His feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was ill.)
3 Nipele achalumbugwe ŵalajisye utenga ku Che Yesu achitiji, “Ambuje, mbusanga gwenu junkunnonyela akulwala!”
So the sisters sent to Him to say, "Master, he whom you hold dear is ill."
4 Che Yesu paŵapilikene yeleyo ŵatite, “Ulwele wo ngaummulaga che Lasalo, nambo ulwele wo ukopochele kwaligongo lya ukulu wa Akunnungu, kuti Mwana jwa Akunnungu apochele ukulu kwa litala lya ulwele wo.”
Jesus received the message and said, "This illness is not to end in death, but is to promote the glory of God, in order that the Son of God may be glorified by it."
5 Che Yesu ŵaanonyele che Masa ni che Maliamu pamo ni che Lasalo.
Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus.
6 Che Yesu paŵapilikene kuti che Lasalo akulwala, ŵajonjechesye moŵa gane gaŵili ga kutama paŵaliji pala.
When, however, He heard that Lazarus was ill, He still remained two days in that same place.
7 Nipele ŵaasalile ŵakulijiganya ŵao, “Tuujile sooni ku Yudea!”
Then, after that, He said to the disciples, "Let us return to Judaea."
8 Ŵakulijiganya ŵao ŵaasalile, “Jwakwiganya, nganagapite moŵa gamajinji Ŵayahudi ŵasachile kummulaga ni maganga, kwachichi nkusaka tuujile sooni kweleko?”
"Rabbi," exclaimed the disciples, "the Jews have just been trying to stone you, and do you think of going back there again?"
9 Che Yesu ŵajanjile, “Ana ngati gapali masaa likumi ni gaŵili ga muusi? Mundu ajendaga muusi ngaakombola kulikuŵala pakuŵa akuliwona lilanguka lya pachilambo chi.
"Are there not twelve hours in the day?" replied Jesus. "If any one walks in the daytime, he does not stumble--because he sees the light of this world.
10 Nambo mundu ajendaga chilo chalikuŵale pakuŵa lilanguka nganilipagwa.”
But if a man walks by night, he does stumble, because the light is not in him."
11 Che Yesu paŵamasile kuŵecheta yeleyo ŵaasalile, “Mbusanga jwetu che Lasalo agonile, nambo uneji chinyaule kukunjimusya.”
He said this, and afterwards He added, "Our friend Lazarus is sleeping, but I will go and wake him."
12 Ŵakulijiganya ŵao ŵansalile, “Ambuje iŵaga agonile chalame.”
"Master," said the disciples, "if he is asleep he will recover."
13 Che Yesu ŵaŵechetaga nkati chiwa chi che Lasalo, nambo ŵakulijiganya ŵao ŵaganisyaga kuti che Lasalo agonile.
Now Jesus had spoken of his death, but they thought He referred to the rest taken in ordinary sleep.
14 Nipele Che Yesu ŵaasalile pangasisa kuti, “Che Lasalo ajasiche,
So then He told them plainly,
15 nambo kwa ligongo lyenu ngusengwa, pakuŵa nganima kweleko, kuti ŵanyamwe nkulupilile. Sambano tujaule kwa jwelejo.”
"Lazarus is dead; and for your sakes I am glad I was not there, in order that you may believe. But let us go to him."
16 Che Tomasi jwakuŵilanjikwa Maŵila, ŵaasalile achinjakwe, “Ni uweji tujaule pamo ni Jwakwiganya kuti tukawe pamo nawo!”
"Let us go also," Thomas, the Twin, said to his fellow disciples, "that we may die with him."
17 Nipele, Che Yesu paŵaiche kweleko, ŵachisimene chiilu chi che Lasalo chili mwilembe kwa moŵa ncheche.
On His arrival Jesus found that Lazarus had already been three days in the tomb.
18 Nsinda wa ku Besania waŵandichile ku Yelusalemu mpela maili siŵili.
Bethany was near Jerusalem, the distance being a little less than two miles;
19 Ŵayahudi ŵajinji ŵaiche kukwatusya ntima che Masa ni che Maliamu kwa ligongo lya chiwa cha mpwao.
and a considerable number of the Jews were with Martha and Mary, having come to express sympathy with them on the death of their brother.
20 Nipele che Masa paŵapilikene kuti Che Yesu akwika, ŵajawile kukwachingamila, nambo che Maliamu ŵasigele pamusi.
Martha, however, as soon as she heard the tidings, "Jesus is coming," went to meet Him; but Mary remained sitting in the house.
21 Che Masa ŵaasalile Che Yesu, “Ambuje, nkaliji papapa pepa mpwangu ngakajasiche.
So Martha came and spoke to Jesus. "Master, if you had been here," she said, "my brother would not have died.
22 Nambo, namuno sambano ngumanyilila kuti chachili chose chichimwaŵende Akunnungu champe.”
And even now I know that whatever you ask God for, God will give you."
23 Che Yesu ŵansalile, “Mpwenu chasyuche.”
"Your brother shall rise again," replied Jesus.
24 Che Masa ŵajanjile, “Ngumanyilila kuti chachisyuka pa lyuŵa lya mbesi Akunnungu pachiŵasyusye ŵandu.”
"I know," said Martha, "that he will rise again at the resurrection, on the last day."
25 Che Yesu ŵansalile, “Uneji ndili usyusyo ni jungwapa ŵandu umi. Mundu jwakungulupilila uneji atamuno ajasikaga, chakole umi,
"I am the Resurrection and the Life," said Jesus; "he who believes in me, even if he has died, he shall live;
26 ni mundu jwalijose jwakutama ni kungulupilila une ngajasika sooni. Uli nkugakulupilila gelego?” (aiōn )
and every one who is living and is a believer in me shall never, never die. Do you believe this?" (aiōn )
27 Che Masa ŵansalile Che Yesu, “Elo Ambuje! Ngukulupilila kuti ŵalakwe ni Kilisito, Mwana jwa Akunnungu, ŵakwika pa chilambo pano.”
"Yes, Master," she replied; "I thoroughly believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who was to come into the world."
28 Che Masa paŵaŵechete yeleyo ŵajinjile nkati ni kwaŵilanga che Maliamu mlumbugwe ni kwasalila chipasipasi, “Jwakwiganya aiche ni sooni akumbilanga.”
After saying this, she went and called her sister Mary privately, telling her, "The Rabbi is here and is asking for you."
29 Nombe che Maliamu paŵapilikene yeleyo ŵajimwiche kwakwanguya ni kwajaulila Che Yesu.
So she, on hearing that, rose up quickly to go to Him.
30 Che Yesu ŵaliji nganajinjile mu nsinda, nambo ŵaliji kulakula kuŵachingamilwe ni che Masa.
Now Jesus was not yet come into the village, but was still at the place where Martha had met Him.
31 Nipele, Ŵayahudi ŵaŵaliji nkati ali nkwatulasya ntima che Maliamu, paŵambweni che Maliamu ajimwiche ni pangakaŵa akopweche paasa, ŵaakuiye. Ŵaganisisye kuti akwaula kumalembe kukulila.
So the Jews who were with Mary in the house sympathizing with her, when they saw that she had risen hastily and had gone out, followed her, supposing that she was going to the tomb to weep aloud there.
32 Nipele, che Maliamu paŵaiche paŵaliji Che Yesu pala ni paŵambweni Che Yesu, ŵatindiŵele ni kwasalila, “Ambuje, nkaliji papapa pepa mpwangu ngakajasiche!”
Mary then, when she came to Jesus and saw Him, fell at His feet and exclaimed, "Master, if you had been here, my brother would not have died."
33 Che Yesu paŵambweni che Maliamu ali nkulila, ni Ŵayahudi ŵaŵalongene ni che Maliamu nombe akulila, Che Yesu ŵasupwiche nnope ni kupwa ntima.
Seeing her weeping aloud, and the Jews in like manner weeping who had come with her, Jesus, curbing the strong emotion of His spirit,
34 Nipele ŵausisye, “Ana mummisile kwapi?” Ni ŵansalile, “Ambuje, njise kunnole.”
though deeply troubled, asked them, "Where have you laid him?" "Master, come and see," was their reply.
36 Nipele Ŵayahudi ŵatite, “Nnole yatite pakunnonyela!”
"See how dear he held him," said the Jews.
37 Nambo ŵandu ŵane ŵatite, “Iŵaga ŵagalamisye meeso ga jwangalola jula, kwachichi nganakombola kuntenda che Lasalo anajasiche?”
But others of them asked, "Was this man who opened the blind man's eyes unable to prevent this man from dying?"
38 Nipele Che Yesu akuno ali nkusupuka sooni mu ntima mwao, ŵaiche pa lilembe. Lilembe lyene lyaliji mbugu lyaliunichikwe ni liganga.
Jesus, however, again restraining His strong feeling, came to the tomb. It was a cave, and a stone had been laid against the mouth of it.
39 Che Yesu ŵasalile, “Ngalambule liganga lyo!” Che Masa alumbugwe jwajasiche jo, ŵaasalile, “Ambuje, atandite kununga, pakuŵa atemi mwilembe moŵa ncheche!”
"Take away the stone," said Jesus. Martha, the sister of the dead man, exclaimed, "Master, by this time there is a foul smell; for it is three days since he died."
40 Che Yesu ŵansalile che Masa, “Ana nganinansalila kuti mwakulupililaga chimuuwone ukulu wa Akunnungu?”
"Did I not promise you," replied Jesus, "that if you believe, you shall see the glory of God?"
41 Nipele ŵagalambwile liganga lila. Che Yesu ŵalolite kwinani ni ŵatite, “Atati nguntogolela pakuŵa mmwejo nkuumbilikanila.
So they removed the stone. Then Jesus lifted up His eyes and said, "Father, I thank Thee that Thou hast heard me.
42 None ngumanyilila kuti nkuumbilikanila moŵa gose. Nambo ŵechete yelei ligongo lyao ŵandu ŵasongangene pelepa ŵa kuti akulupilile kuti mmwejo mundumile une!”
I know that Thou always hearest me; but for the sake of the crowd standing round I have said this--that they may believe that Thou didst send me."
43 Paŵamasile kuŵecheta yeleyo, ŵaŵilasile kwaliloŵe lyekulungwa, “Che Lasalo! Nkopoche paasa!”
After speaking thus, He called out in a loud voice, "Lazarus, come out."
44 Juŵajasiche jo ŵakopweche paasa akuno ali ataŵikwe saanda mmakongolo ni makono ni ku meeso. Che Yesu ŵaasalile ŵandu, “Mummugule, munneche ajaule.”
The dead man came out, his hands and feet wrapped in cloths, and his face wrapped round with a towel. "Untie him," said Jesus, "and let him go free."
45 Nipele Ŵayahudi ŵajinji ŵaŵaiche ku che Maliamu paŵaiweni yaitesile Che Yesu yo, ŵakulupilile.
Thereupon a considerable number of the Jews--namely those who had come to Mary and had witnessed His deeds--became believers in Him;
46 Nambo ŵandu ŵane mwa ŵelewo ŵajawile kwa Mafalisayo ni kwasalila aila yaitesile Che Yesu.
though some of them went off to the Pharisees and told them what He had done.
47 Achakulu ŵambopesi ni Mafalisayo ŵausimanisye Nkungulu wekulu wa Ŵayahudi, ŵaliusisye, “Tutende chichi? Pakuŵa mundu ju akupanganya imanyisyo yejinji.
Therefore the High Priests and the Pharisees held a meeting of the Sanhedrin. "What steps are we taking?" they asked one another; "for this man is performing a great number of miracles.
48 Twannekaga ajendelechele, ŵandu wose chankulupilile, ni achakulu ŵa Chiloma chaiche kukujijonanga Nyuumba jetu ja Akunnungu ni ŵandu ŵetu ni chilambo chetu.”
If we leave him alone in this way, everybody will believe in him, and the Romans will come and blot out both our city and our nation."
49 Pelepo jumo jwao jwakuŵilanjikwa che Kayafa, chele chaka cho ŵaliji Jwambopesi Jwankulu, ŵaasalile, “Ŵanyamwe ngankumanyilila kose!
But one of them, named Caiaphas, being High Priest that year, said, "You know nothing about it.
50 Ana ngankuganisya kuti ikuŵajilwa mundu jumo ŵawile ŵandu wose, kupunda chijonanjikwe chilambo chose?”
You do not reflect that it is to your interest that one man should die for the people rather than the whole nation perish."
51 Ŵelewo nganaŵecheta yeleyo kwa kusaka kwakwe nsyene, nambo ligongo ŵaliji Jwambopesi Jwankulu chele chaka cho, ŵalondwele kuti Che Yesu chawe kwa ligongo lya ŵandu ŵa chilambo cha Ŵayahudi,
It was not as a mere man that he thus spoke. But being High Priest that year he was inspired to declare that Jesus was to die for the nation,
52 sooni ngaŵa kwa Ŵayahudi pe nambo kuti ŵasonganganye pamo ŵandu ŵa Akunnungu ŵaŵapwilingene mwinemwine kuti aŵe chindu chimo.
and not for the nation only, but in order to unite into one body all the far-scattered children of God.
53 Nipele kutandilila lyuŵa lyo achakulu ŵa Ŵayahudi ŵajilene kwaulaga Che Yesu.
So from that day forward they planned and schemed in order to put Him to death.
54 Kwa yele, Che Yesu nganajendajendaga sooni kwa kulilosya pasikati ja Ŵayahudi, nambo ŵatyosile pelepo, ŵajawile kwiuto kwakuŵandikene ni lipululu, musi waukuŵilanjikwa Eflaimu. Ŵatemi kweleko pamo ni ŵakulijiganya ŵao.
Therefore Jesus no longer went about openly among the Jews, but He left that neighbourhood and went into the district near the Desert, to a town called Ephraim, and remained there with the disciples.
55 Lyuŵa lyekulungwa lya Pasaka ja Ŵayahudi lyaŵandichile, ni ŵandu ŵajinji ŵakwesile kwaula ku Yelusalemu kuti aliswejesye kwaligongo lya kwapopelela Akunnungu, likanaŵe lyuŵa lyekulungwa lya Pasaka.
The Jewish Passover was coming near, and many from that district went up to Jerusalem before the Passover, to purify themselves.
56 Nipele ŵaliji nkwasosa Che Yesu. Nombewo paŵasongangene pamo pa Nyuumba ja Akunnungu, ŵausyene, “Ana nkuganisya uli? Nkuti ngaaika ku chindimba chi?”
They therefore looked out for Jesus, and asked one another as they stood in the Temple, "What do you think? --will he come to the Festival at all?"
57 Achakulu ŵambopesi ni Mafalisayo ŵalajisye kuti iŵaga kwana mundu jwakumanyi kwali Che Yesu, asale kuti ŵaakamule.
Now the High Priests and the Pharisees had issued orders that if any one knew where He was, he should give information, so that they might arrest Him.
