< 1 Petulo 2 >

1 Nipele, nnechanje ungalumbana wose, unami ni ulamba ni wiu ni kutukana ikapagwa sooni.
Now that you have done with all malice, all deceitfulness, insincerity, jealous feelings, and all backbiting,
2 Moŵa gose nlajile liloŵe lya uswela lya Akunnungu nti mwanache yakuti pakulajila maŵele, kuti kwa lyelelyo isyene nkombole kukula ni kukulupuswa.
like newly born infants, crave pure spiritual milk, so that you may be enabled by it to grow until you attain salvation –
3 Mpela igakuti kusala Malembelo ga Akunnungu, “Nnyimanyi mwachinsyene kuti Ambuje ali ŵambone.”
since ‘you have found by experience that the Lord is kind.’
4 Nipele, mwajaulile Ambuje! Ŵelewo ali nti liganga lyalijumi lyekanikwe ni ŵandu, nambo paujo pa Akunnungu lili liganga lyesagulikwe ni lya ndalama jajikulungwa.
Come to him, then, as to a living stone, rejected, indeed, by men, but in God’s eyes choice and precious;
5 Ŵanyamwe nombe nli nti maganga gamajumi nkagumbikwe ni kuŵa nyuumba ja chimbumu muchinkatumichile mpela ŵambopesi ŵaswela, nkatyosye mbopesi sya mmbumu syasikukundikwa ni Akunnungu kwa litala li Che Yesu Kilisito.
and, as living stones, form yourselves into a spiritual house, to be a consecrated priesthood, for the offering of spiritual sacrifices that will be acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
6 Pakuŵa Malembelo ga Akunnungu gakuti, “Sagwile liganga lya ndalama, linguliŵika nti liganga lya nsingi lya petumba ku Sayuni. Mundu juchankulupilile jwelejo ngaintenda soni.”
For there is a passage of scripture that runs – ‘See, I am placing in Zion a choice and precious cornerstone; and those who believe in him will have no cause for shame.’
7 Kukwenu ŵanyamwe ŵankukulupilila, liganga lyo lili lya ndalama jajikulungwa, nambo kwa ŵele ŵangakukulupilila mpela Malembelo ga Akunnungu yagakuti pakusala, “Liganga lyalikanile ŵakutaŵa kuti ngalikufai, sambano lilyolyo lili liganga lyalikusachilwa kwannope.”
It is to you, then, who believe in him that he is precious, but to those who do not believe he is ‘a stone which, though rejected by the builders, has now itself become the corner-stone,’
and ‘a stumbling-block, and a rock which will prove a hindrance.’ They stumble because they do not accept the message. This was the fate destined for them.
9 Nambo ŵanyamwe nli ŵandu ŵansagulikwe, uŵelesi wa ŵambopesi ŵa mwenye, ni lukosyo lwaluswela ni mpingo wa ŵandu ŵa Akunnungu, ŵansagulikwe kugasala masengo gakwe gamakulu gaŵammilasile ntyoche mu chipi, ni kunjinjisya mu lilanguka lyakwe lyekulu.
But you are ‘a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a consecrated nation, God’s own people,’ entrusted with the proclamation of the goodness of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.
10 Kalakala ŵanyamwe nganimma ŵandu ŵa Akunnungu, nambo sambano ŵanyamwe nli ŵandu ŵakwe, kalakala Akunnungu nganantendela chanasa, nambo sambano mpochele chanasa chao.
Once you were ‘not a people,’ but now you are ‘God’s people’; once you ‘had not found mercy,’ but now you ‘have found mercy.’
11 Achambusanga ŵangu ŵangunnonyela, ngunchondelela ŵanyamwe nti achalendo ni ŵandu ŵa ulendo pa chilambo pano! Nnekangane ni tama syangalumbana simpagwile nasyo syasikupisyangana ni mbumu.
Dear friends, I beg you, as pilgrims and strangers on earth, to refrain from indulging the cravings of your earthly nature, for they make war on the soul.
12 Wende wenu pasikati ja ŵandu ŵangakwamanyilila Akunnungu ukusachilwa uŵe wambone, kuti pachachinnambuchisya po kuti nkupanganya ya sambi, chaiwone ipanganyo yenu yambone ni Akunnungu pachaiche chiŵakusye.
Let your daily life among the Gentiles be so upright, that, whenever they malign you as evildoers, they may learn, as they watch, from the uprightness of your conduct, to praise God ‘at the time when he will visit them.’
13 Nipele mwajitichisye ŵandu wose ŵaali ni ukulu kwa ligongo lya Ambuje. Munjitichisye mwenye jwali chilongola jwankulu,
Submit to all human institutions for the Lord’s sake, alike to the emperor as the supreme authority,
14 ni mwajitichisye achakulu ŵaŵasagulikwe ni mwenye kwalamula ŵandu ŵa sambi ni kwalapa ŵakupanganya yambone.
and to governors as sent by him to punish evildoers and to commend those who do right.
15 Pakuŵa Akunnungu akusaka ntende yambone kuti nkombole kusitaŵa kang'wa sya ŵandu ŵangali lunda ŵangakwimanyilila aila yakuipanganya.
For God’s will is this – that you should silence the ignorance of foolish people by doing what is right.
16 Mtameje nti ŵandu ŵanganataŵikwa, ni ungataŵikwa wenu wo ukaŵa litala lya kuisisa yangalumbana yenu, nambo mtameje nti ŵakutumichila ŵa Akunnungu.
Act as free people, yet not using your freedom as those do who make it a cloak for wickedness, but as Servants of God.
17 Mwachimbichisye ŵandu wose, mwanonyele ŵakukulupilila achinjenu, mwachimbichisye kwannope Akunnungu ni kumchimbichisya mwenye.
Show honor to everyone, love the Lord’s followers, ‘revere God, honor the emperor.’
18 Ŵanyamwe ŵakutumichila, mwapilikanichisye achakulu ŵenu kwakwachimbichisya, ngaŵa kwa ŵaali ŵambone ni chitungato pe, nambo ni ŵachikali.
Those of you who are domestic servants should always be submissive and respectful to their masters, not only to those who are good and considerate, but also to those who are arbitrary.
19 Pakuŵa iŵaga nkupililila ipwetesi ya masauko gangankuŵajilwa ligongo nkumanyilila kuti Akunnungu akusaka yele, nipele Akunnungu champanje upile.
For this wins God’s approval when, because conscious of God’s presence, a person who is suffering unjustly bears their troubles patiently.
20 Pakuŵa, chimpate chichi mwapilililaga kuputwa kwankusachilwa mputwe ligongo lya ileŵo yenu? Nambo iŵaga nkupililila kusauswa atamuno ntesile yambone, Akunnungu champe upile kwa ligongo lyo.
What credit can you claim when, after doing wrong, you take your punishment for it patiently? But, on the other hand, if, after doing right, you take your sufferings patiently, that does win the approval of God.
21 Yeleyo ni yammilanjikwe nayo, pakuŵa Kilisito nsyene ŵasawiche kwa ligongo lyenu, ni anlosisye ntende nti iŵatesile.
For it was to this that you were called! For Christ, too, suffered – on your behalf – and left you an example, that you should follow in his steps.
22 Ŵelewo nganatenda sambi, atamuno nganaŵecheta liloŵe lyalili lyose lya unami.
He ‘never sinned, nor was anything deceitful ever heard from his lips.’
23 Ŵelewo paŵatukanikwe nganaliuchisya kwa kutukana. Ni paŵasawiche nganiŵajogoya ŵandu kuti ŵajogope, nambo ŵachilesile chilolelo chakwe kwa Akunnungu, ŵakulamula mu usyene.
He was abused, but he did not answer with abuse; he suffered, but he did not threaten; he entrusted himself to him whose judgments are just.
24 Ŵelewo asyene ŵasijigele sambi syetu mu chiilu chao pa nsalaba, kuti uwe tuleche kutenda sambi, ni kutama kwa kupanganya yaili yambone paujo pa Akunnungu. Ni kwakupotekwa kwao, ŵanyamwe nlamiswe.
And he ‘himself carried our sins’ in his own body to the cross, so that we might die to our sins, and live for righteousness. ‘His bruising was your healing.’
25 Pakuŵa mwaliji mpela ngondolo syesochelele, nambo sambano mmusile kwa jwakuchinga ni Jwakwimilila umi wenu.
Once you were straying like sheep, but now you have returned to the shepherd and guardian of your souls.
