創世記 39
1 約瑟被帶下埃及去。有一個埃及人，是法老的內臣－護衛長波提乏，從那些帶下他來的以實瑪利人手下買了他去。
Meanwhile, Joseph was led into Egypt. And Putiphar, a eunuch of Pharaoh, a leader of the army, an Egyptian man, purchased him from the hand of the Ishmaelites, by whom he was brought.
2 約瑟住在他主人埃及人的家中，耶和華與他同在，他就百事順利。
And the Lord was with him, and he was a man who prospered in everything that he did. And he lived in the house of his lord,
3 他主人見耶和華與他同在，又見耶和華使他手裏所辦的盡都順利，
who knew very well that the Lord was with him, and that all the things that were done by him were directed by his hand.
4 約瑟就在主人眼前蒙恩，伺候他主人，並且主人派他管理家務，把一切所有的都交在他手裏。
And Joseph found favor in the sight of his lord, and he ministered to him. And, having been placed in charge of everything by him, he governed the house that was entrusted to him and all the things that had been delivered to him.
5 自從主人派約瑟管理家務和他一切所有的，耶和華就因約瑟的緣故賜福與那埃及人的家；凡家裏和田間一切所有的都蒙耶和華賜福。
And the Lord blessed the house of the Egyptian, because of Joseph, and he multiplied all his substance, as much in the buildings, as in the fields.
6 波提乏將一切所有的都交在約瑟的手中，除了自己所吃的飯，別的事一概不知。 約瑟原來秀雅俊美。
Neither did he know anything other than the bread that he ate. Now Joseph was beautiful in form, and stately in appearance.
7 這事以後，約瑟主人的妻以目送情給約瑟，說：「你與我同寢吧！」
And so, after many days, his mistress cast her eyes on Joseph, and she said, “Sleep with me.”
8 約瑟不從，對他主人的妻說：「看哪，一切家務，我主人都不知道；他把所有的都交在我手裏。
And without consenting at all to the wicked act, he said to her: “Behold, my lord has delivered all things to me, and he does not know what he has in his own house.
9 在這家裏沒有比我大的；並且他沒有留下一樣不交給我，只留下了你，因為你是他的妻子。我怎能作這大惡，得罪上帝呢？」
Neither is there anything which is not in my power, or that he has not delivered to me, except you, for you are his wife. How then can I do this evil act and sin against my God?”
10 後來她天天和約瑟說，約瑟卻不聽從她，不與她同寢，也不和她在一處。
With such words as these, throughout each day, the woman was pestering the young man, and he was refusing the adultery.
11 有一天，約瑟進屋裏去辦事，家中人沒有一個在那屋裏，
Then it happened, on a certain day, that Joseph entered the house, and he was doing something, without any witnesses.
12 婦人就拉住他的衣裳，說：「你與我同寢吧！」約瑟把衣裳丟在婦人手裏，跑到外邊去了。
And she, grasping the hem of his garment, said, “Sleep with me.” But he, leaving behind the cloak in her hand, fled and went outside.
13 婦人看見約瑟把衣裳丟在她手裏跑出去了，
And when the woman saw the garment in her hands and herself being treated with disrespect,
14 就叫了家裏的人來，對他們說：「你們看！他帶了一個希伯來人進入我們家裏，要戲弄我們。他到我這裏來，要與我同寢，我就大聲喊叫。
she called to herself the men of her house, and she said to them: “Lo, he has brought in a Hebrew man to abuse us. He entered toward me, in order to join with me; and when I had shouted out,
15 他聽見我放聲喊起來，就把衣裳丟在我這裏，跑到外邊去了。」
and he had heard my voice, he left behind the cloak that I held, and he fled outside.”
16 婦人把約瑟的衣裳放在自己那裏，等着他主人回家，
As a proof, therefore, of her fidelity, she retained the cloak, and she showed it to her husband, when he returned home.
17 就對他如此如此說：「你所帶到我們這裏的那希伯來僕人進來要戲弄我，
And she said: “The Hebrew servant, whom you have brought in to me, approached me to abuse me.
18 我放聲喊起來，他就把衣裳丟在我這裏，跑出去了。」
And when he had heard me cry out, he left behind the cloak that I held, and he fled outside.”
19 約瑟的主人聽見他妻子對他所說的話，說「你的僕人如此如此待我」，他就生氣，
His lord, upon hearing these things, and having excessive trust in the words of his mate, was very angry.
20 把約瑟下在監裏，就是王的囚犯被囚的地方。於是約瑟在那裏坐監。
And he delivered Joseph into prison, where the prisoners of the king were kept, and he was enclosed in that place.
21 但耶和華與約瑟同在，向他施恩，使他在司獄的眼前蒙恩。
But the Lord was with Joseph, and, having mercy on him, he gave him favor in the sight of the leader of the prison,
22 司獄就把監裏所有的囚犯都交在約瑟的手下；他們在那裏所辦的事都是經他的手。
who delivered into his hand all the prisoners who were held in custody. And whatever was done, was under him.
23 凡在約瑟手下的事，司獄一概不察，因為耶和華與約瑟同在；耶和華使他所做的盡都順利。
Neither did he himself know anything, having entrusted all things to him. For the Lord was with him, and he directed everything that he did.
