< 箴言 13 >
1 智慧之子,聽從父親的教訓;輕狂的人,不聽任何人規勸。
A wise son hears his father's instruction: but a scorner hears not rebuke.
2 義人必飽嘗自己口舌的果實,惡人的慾望只有飽食強暴。
A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth: but the soul of the transgressors shall eat violence.
3 謹口慎言,方能自保性命;信口開河,終必自取滅亡。
He that keeps his mouth keeps his life: but he that opens wide his lips shall have destruction.
4 懶人雖常盼望,卻一無所得;勤勞的人,卻常如願以償。
The soul of the sluggard desires, and has nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.
A righteous man hates lying: but a wicked man is loathsome, and comes to shame.
Righteousness keeps him that is upright in the way: but wickedness overthrows the sinner.
7 有人自充富人,其實一貧如洗;有人佯作窮人,其實腰纏萬貫。
There is that makes himself rich, yet has nothing: there is that makes himself poor, yet has great riches.
8 富人的錢財只是性命的贖價,窮人卻沒有這樣的威脅。
The ransom of a man's life are his riches: but the poor hears not rebuke.
The light of the righteous rejoices: but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.
Only by pride comes contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.
Wealth got by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathers by labour shall increase.
12 希望遲不兌現,令人心神煩惱;願望獲得滿足,像株生命樹。
Hope deferred makes the heart sick: but when the desire comes, it is a tree of life.
13 誰輕視法令,必遭滅亡;誰敬畏誡命,必得安全。
Whoso despises the word shall be destroyed: but he that fears the commandment shall be rewarded.
14 智慧人的教訓是生命的泉源,人可賴以脫免死亡的羅網。
The law of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.
15 明哲的規勸,使人蒙恩,殘暴人的舉止,粗魯蠻橫。
Good understanding gives favour: but the way of transgressors is hard.
16 精明的人,常按理智行事;愚昧的人,只自誇其糊塗。
Every prudent man deals with knowledge: but a fool lays open his folly.
17 奸妄的使者,使人陷於災禍;忠誠的使者,給人帶來安和。
A wicked messenger falls into mischief: but a faithful ambassador is health.
18 拒絕規勸的,必遭貧苦羞辱;接受懲戒的,反要受人尊敬。
Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuses instruction: but he that regards reproof shall be honoured.
19 願望獲得滿足,能使心靈愉快;遠離邪惡,卻為愚昧人所深惡。
The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul: but it is abomination to fools to depart from evil.
20 與智慧人往來,可成智慧人;與愚昧人作伴,必受其連累。
He that walks with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.
Evil pursues sinners: but to the righteous good shall be repaid.
22 善人為子子孫孫留下產業,罪人的財富是為義人積蓄。
A good man left an inheritance to his children's children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.
23 窮人開墾的田地,生產大量食物;誰若缺乏正義,定不免於滅亡。
Much food is in the tillage of the poor: but there is that is destroyed for lack of judgment.
24 不肯使用棍杖的人,實是恨自己的兒子;真愛兒子的人,必時加以懲罰。
He that spares his rod hates his son: but he that loves him chastens him early.
The righteous eats to the satisfying of his soul: but the belly of the wicked shall lack.
