耶利米書 10
1 以色列家! 請聽上主對你們所說的話。
Hear ye the word which Jehovah speaketh to you, O house of Israel!
2 上主這樣說：「你們不要學：不要畏懼天上的異兆：這是異民所畏懼的。
Thus saith Jehovah: Conform ye not to the way of the heathen, And be not dismayed at the signs of the heavens, Because the heathen are dismayed at them!
3 因為這些民族所敬畏的是「虛無」，是由森林所砍來的樹木，是匠人用斧製作的作品，
The customs of the nations are vanity. For a tree of the wood is cut down, It is wrought by the hands of the artificer with the axe,
4 裝飾上金銀，用鐵釘鎚釘住，叫它不動搖；
It is decked with silver and gold, And with nails and with hammers is it fastened, That it may not totter.
5 像胡瓜園裏的草木，不能言語；常需要人搬運，不能行走；你們不要害怕，因為它不能害人，也不能施救。
They are like a turned palm-tree pillar, and cannot speak; They must be borne by men, for they cannot walk. Be not afraid of them, for they cannot hurt, Nor is it in their power to do good.
6 上主，沒有誰相似你；你是偉大的，你的名大有德能。
There is none like thee, O Jehovah! Thou art great, And great is thy name by mighty deeds.
7 萬民的君王! 誰能不敬畏你﹖這是你應得的，因為萬民中所有的智者和他們所有的王國中，沒有誰與你相似；
Who shall not fear thee, O king of nations, For to thee doth it belong! For among all the wise men of the nations, And in all their kingdoms, there is none like thee.
8 你們全是愚昧無知。他們的教義全是虛偽不實，他們只不過是木偶；
They are all brutish and without understanding; A doctrine of vanities is the stock.
9 是由塔爾士採來的銀打成的薄片，是由敖非爾採來的黃金，是藝人和銀匠的製造品；穿的紫錦紅衣，都是工匠的作品。
Beaten silver is brought from Tarshish, And gold from Uphaz, The work of the artificer and the founder; Blue and purple is their clothing; The work of the skilful is it all.
10 只有上主是真天主，是生活的天主，永遠的君王；衪一震怒，大志便戰慄，萬民都不能抵受衪的憤怒。
But Jehovah is the true God, He is the living God, and an everlasting king; At his wrath the earth trembleth, And the nations are not able to abide his indignation.
11 [關於他們，你們應這樣說：那未能創造天地火神祗，只有從天上地消滅。]
[[Thus shall ye say to them: The gods, that have not made the heavens and the earth, Shall perish from the earth and from under these heavens.]]
12 上主的才智展佈了諸天地。
He made the earth by his power; He established the world by his wisdom, And by his understanding he spread out the heavens.
13 衪一聲號令，使天上的水怒號，使雲彩從地極上騰，使雷電霹靂造成豪雨，使暴風從他的倉庫出發疾駛。
When he uttereth his voice there is an abundance of water in the heavens; He causeth clouds to ascend from the ends of the earth; He maketh lightnings with rain; He bringeth the wind from his storehouses.
14 人都要自覺愚昧無知；每個銀匠必因自己的彫像感到羞愧，因為所鑄的像，只是「虛無」，沒有氣息；
Brutish is every one who hath not this knowledge; By his image is every founder put to shame, For his molten-work is deceit; There is no breath in it.
15 是「虛無」，是愚人的作品；懲罰時期一到，它們都要滅亡。
They are vanity, deceptive work; In the time of their punishment shall they perish.
16 那位作雅各伯產業的，與他們迴然不同，因為衪是萬物的造主，以色列是作衪產業的支派，衪的名字叫「萬軍火上主」。
Not like them is He who is the portion of Jacob; He is the former of all things, And Israel is his allotted inheritance; Jehovah of hosts is his name.
17 你這被圍困的城池，快從地上拾起你的行囊!
Gather up thy goods out of the land, O inhabitant of the fortress!
18 因為上主這樣說：「看，這一次我必要遠遠拋棄這地的居民磨難他們，使他們覺悟。」
For thus saith Jehovah: Behold, I will sling forth the inhabitants of the land at this time; I will distress them, so that they shall be taken.
19 唉! 我已遭破壞，我的創傷已不可治療，但我仍想：這只不過是疾病，我還能忍受。
“Ah me! my wound!” [[saith the daughter of Zion; ]] “My bruise is deadly; Yet I say, This is my affliction, and I must bear it!
20 我的帳幕已破壞，我的繩索都已裂斷，我的孩子都已離去，不復存在；再沒有人支搭我的帳幕，張設我的帷帳。
My tent is torn down, And all my cords broken. My children are gone forth from me, and are no more; There is none to stretch forth my tent any more, Or to set up my curtains.
21 為民牧者既然愚蠢，不尋求上主，為此他們一事無成，羊群都已四散，
For the shepherds have become brutish; They have not sought Jehovah; Therefore have they not prospered, And all their flock is dispersed.”
22 聽有個音訊傳來：將有大騷動從北方而來，要使猶大的城邑荒涼，成為豺狼的巢穴。
[[Hark!]] the sound of tiding! Behold it cometh, And a great tumult from the land of the North, To make the cities of Judah desolate, A dwelling-place for jackals.
23 上主，我知道，人的道路不尸由人的，行走的人也不能隨便操縱自己的步伐。
“I know, O Jehovah, that the way of a man is not within his power, That it is not within the power of a man that walketh to establish his steps.
24 上主，你懲戒我，只好按照正義，不要隨你的憤怒，免得我歸於烏有。
Chasten me, O Jehovah, but in measure; Not in thine anger, lest thou bring me to nothing!
25 願你對不認識你的異民，和不呼求你名的宗族，發洩你的憤怒，因為他們併吞了雅各伯，毀滅破壞，蹂躝了她的住所。
Pour out thy wrath on the nations which acknowledge thee not, And on the kingdoms which call not on thy name! For they have devoured Jacob; They have devoured and consumed him, And laid waste his dwelling-place.”
