出埃及記 17
1 以色列子民全會眾按照上主的吩咐，由欣曠野起程，一站一站地前行，然後在勒非丁安了營。在那裏百姓沒有水喝，
And all the congregation of the children of Israel journeyed from the wilderness of Sin, after their journeyings, by the order of the Lord; and they encamped in Rephidim, and there was no water for the people to drink.
2 因此百姓和梅瑟爭吵說：「給我們水喝罷! 」梅瑟回答他們說：「你們為什麼與我爭吵，為什麼試探上主﹖」
And the people quarrelled with Moses, and said, Give us water that we may drink; and Moses said unto them, Why will ye quarrel with me? why will ye tempt the Lord?
3 因百姓在那裏渴望水喝，就抱怨梅瑟說：「你為什麼從埃及領我們上來﹖難道要使我們，我們的子女和牲畜都渴死嗎﹖」
And the people thirsted there for water; and the people murmured against Moses, and said, For what purpose is it that thou hast brought us up out of Egypt, to kill me and my children and my cattle with thirst?
4 梅瑟向上主呼號說：「我要怎樣對待這百姓呢﹖他們幾乎願用石頭砸死我! 」
And Moses cried unto the Lord, saying, What shall I do unto this people? but little is wanting and they will stone me.
5 上主回答梅瑟說：「你到百姓面前去，帶上幾個以色列長老，手中拿著你擊打尼羅河的棍杖去!
And the Lord said unto Moses, Pass on before the people, and take with thee some of the elders of Israel; and thy staff, wherewith thou smotest the river, take in thy hand, and go.
6 看，握要在你面前站在曷勒布那裏的磐石上，你擊打磐石，就有水流出來，給百姓喝。」梅瑟就在以色列長老眼前照樣作了。
Behold, I will be standing before thee there upon the rock at Horeb; and thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come out from it water, and the people shall drink; and Moses did so before the eyes of the elders of Israel.
7 他稱那地方為瑪撒和默黎巴，因為以色列子民在那裏爭吵過，並試探過上主說：「上主是否在我們中間﹖」與阿瑪肋克人作戰
And he called the name of the place Massah and Meribah; because of the quarrelling of the children of Israel, and because they tempted the Lord, saying, Is then the Lord among us, or not?
8 那時有阿瑪肋克人，在非勒丁同以色列人作戰。
Then came Amalek, and fought with Israel in Rephidim.
9 梅瑟向若蘇厄說：「你給我們選拔壯丁，明天去同阿瑪肋克人作戰，我手爭拿著天主的棍杖，站在這高岡頂上。」
And Moses said unto Joshua, Choose for us men, and go out, fight with Amalek; tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the staff of God in my hand.
10 若蘇厄就照梅瑟吩咐他的作了，去同阿瑪勒克作戰；同時梅瑟、亞郎和胡爾上了那高岡頂上。
And Joshua did as Moses had said to him, to fight with Amalek; and Moses, Aaron, and Chur went up to the top of the hill.
11 當梅瑟舉手的時候，以色列就打勝戰；放下手的時候，阿瑪勒克就打勝戰。
And it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed: and when he let down his hand, that Amalek prevailed.
12 終於梅瑟的手舉疲乏了。他們就搬了塊石頭來，放在他下邊，叫他坐下，亞郎和胡爾，一邊一個托著他的手：這樣他的手舉著不動，直到日落的時候。
But when the hands of Moses became heavy, they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat thereon; and Aaron and Chur supported his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.
13 於是若蘇厄用刀劍打敗了阿瑪勒克和他的人民。
And Joshua discomfited Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.
14 上主向梅瑟說：「將這事寫在書上作為記念，並訓示若蘇厄，我要從天下把阿瑪勒克的記念完全消滅。」
And the Lord said unto Moses, Write this for a memorial in the book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua; for I will utterly blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under the heavens.
15 梅瑟築了一座祭壇，給它起名叫「雅威尼息，」
And Moses built an altar, and called its name Adonay Nissy [[The Lord is my Banner]].
16 說「向上主的旌旗舉手，上主必世世代代與阿瑪勒克作戰。」
And he said, Because the Lord hath sworn on his throne, that the Lord will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.
