< 帖撒羅尼迦前書 5 >

1 弟兄們；至論那時候與日期，不需要給你們寫什麼。
But, brethren, you have no need that I write to you of the times and seasons;
2 你們原確實知道，主的日子要像夜間盜賊來到。
for you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night:
3 幾時人正說：「平安無事，」那時滅亡會猝然來到他們身上，就像痛苦來到懷孕者身上一樣，決逃脫不了。
for when they shall say, Peace and safety, then sudden destruction comes upon them, as the pains of birth upon a woman with child, and they shall not escape.
4 但是你們，弟兄們，你們不是在黑暗中，以致那些日子像盜賊一樣襲擊你們；
But you, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.
5 你們眾人都是光明之子和白日之子；我們不屬於黑夜，我們不屬於黑暗。
You are all sons of light, and sons of day: we are not of night, nor of darkness.
6 所以我們不當像其他人一樣貪睡，卻當醒寤清醒，
Therefore, let us not sleep, as do others, but let us watch and be sober.
7 因為人睡覺是黑夜睡覺，喝醉的人是黑夜喝醉；
For those who sleep, sleep in the night; and those who are drunken, are drunken in the night.
8 但是我們做白日子之的應當清醒，穿上信德和愛德作甲，戴上得救的望德作盔，
But let us, who are of the day, be sober, having on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet, the hope of salvation:
9 因為天主沒有揀定我們為洩怒，而是藉我們的主耶穌基督為獲得拯救，
for God has not appointed us to wrath, but to the obtaining of salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,
10 衪為我們死了，為叫我們不論醒寤或睡眠，都同衪一起生活。
who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we might live together with him.
11 為此，你們應互相安慰，彼此建樹，就如你們所行的。
Wherefore, exhort one another, and edify one another, as you also do.
12 弟兄們，我們還請求你們尊敬那些在你們中勞苦，在主內管理你們和勸戒你們的人，
Now we beseech you, brethren, to have regard for those who labor among you, and preside over you in the Lord, and admonish you,
13 為了他們的工作，你們更因本著愛德，重視他們；你們要彼此平安相處。
and that you esteem them very highly in love on account of their work. Be at peace among yourselves.
14 弟兄們，我們還規勸他們：要勸戒閒蕩的，寬慰怯懦的扶助軟弱的，容忍一切人。
We exhort you, brethren, admonish the unruly, comfort the faint-hearted, earnestly care for the weak-minded, be of a long-suffering disposition toward all.
15 要小心：人對人，不是以惡報惡，卻要時常彼此勉勵，互相善待，且善待一切人。
See that no one render evil for evil to any, but always pursue that which is good toward one another and toward all.
16 應常歡樂，
Rejoice always;
17 不斷禱告，
pray without ceasing;
18 事事感謝：這就是天主在基督耶穌內對你們所有的旨意。
in every thing give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
19 不要消滅神恩，
Quench not the Spirit.
20 不要輕視先知之恩；
Despise not prophesyings.
21 但應考驗一切，好的，應保持，
Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.
22 各種壞的，要遠避。
Abstain from every appearance of evil.
23 願賜平安的天主親自全化聖你們，將你們整個的神魂、靈魂和肉身，在我們的主耶穌基督來臨時，保持的無瑕可指：
Now the God of peace himself sanctify you wholly; and may your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
24 召你們的是忠信的，衪必實行。
Faithful is he that calls you; and he will do what he has promised.
25 弟兄們，你們也要為我們祈禱。
Brethren, pray for us.
26 你們要以聖吻問候所有的弟兄。
Salute all the brethren with a holy kiss.
27 我因主誓求你們，向眾弟兄朗誦這封書信。
I adjure you by the Lord, that this letter be read to all the holy brethren.
28 我們的主耶穌基督的恩寵與你們同在。
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
