And it came to pass in the days when the judges judged, that there was a famine in the land. And a certain man of Beth-lehem-judah went to sojourn in the country of Moab, he, and his wife, and his two sons.
2 Ahnie min teh Elimelek. A yu min teh Naomi, a ca roi e a min teh Mahlon hoi Khilion. Ahnimouh teh Judah ram, Bethlehem kho, Ephraim tami lah ao. Moab ram lah a cei teh hawvah ao awh.
And the name of the man was Elimelech, and the name of his wife Naomi, and the name of his two sons Mahlon and Chilion, Ephrathites of Beth-lehem-judah. And they came into the country of Moab, and continued there.
3 Naomi teh a vâ, Elimelek a due hnukkhu a capa roi hoi cungtalah kho a sak awh.
And Elimelech, Naomi’s husband, died; and she was left, and her two sons.
4 A ca roi ni Moab napui, Orpah hoi Ruth hah a yu lah a la roi.
And they took them wives of the women of Moab; the name of the one was Orpah, and the name of the other Ruth: and they dwelt there about ten years.

And Mahlon and Chilion died both of them; and the woman was left of her two children and of her husband.
6 Cathut ni a taminaw a khet teh khobu a tho sak tie Moab ram hoi a thai navah, Moab ram hoi ban hanlah a langa roi hoi a kamthaw awh teh,
Then she arose with her daughters-in-law, that she might return from the country of Moab: for she had heard in the country of Moab how that Jehovah had visited his people in giving them bread.
7 Judah ram lah a cei awh.
And she went forth out of the place where she was, and her two daughters-in-law with her; and they went on the way to return unto the land of Judah.
8 Hatei, Naomi ni a langa roi hanlah na manu im lah ban roi leih, kadout tangcoung naw hoi kai koe na saknae phu teh Cathut ni yawhawi na poe roi lawiseh.
And Naomi said unto her two daughters-in-law, Go, return each of you to her mother’s house: Jehovah deal kindly with you, as ye have dealt with the dead, and with me.
9 Nangmouh roi ni na vâ alouke na sak roi hnukkhu kanawmcalah na o roi nahan yawhawinae na poe lawiseh ati teh, a kut a man roi. Ahnimouh roi hai a khuika roi.
Jehovah grant you that ye may find rest, each of you in the house of her husband. Then she kissed them, and they lifted up their voice, and wept.
10 Bangtelah hai thoseh nama hoi cungtalah, na miphunnaw koe kâbang han atipouh roi.
And they said unto her, Nay, but we will return with thee unto thy people.
11 Naomi nihai, ka canu roi, ban roi leih. Bangkongmaw kai koe na kâbang roi han. kai teh nangmouh roi hanlah ka vonthung ca tongpa ka tawn rah maw.
And Naomi said, Turn again, my daughters: why will ye go with me? have I yet sons in my womb, that they may be your husbands?
12 Ka canu roi, ban roi leih. kai teh nangmouh roi na ngaihawi nahanelah ka kumcue toung dawkvah vâ hai ka tawn thai mahoeh toe. Hatei, vâ ka tawn nakunghai thoseh, sahnin tangmin vah ca tongpanaw ka khe ei nakunghai thoseh,
Turn again, my daughters, go your way; for I am too old to have a husband. If I should say, I have hope, if I should even have a husband to-night, and should also bear sons;
13 Ahnimouh a nawsai ditouh na ring thai han na maw. Vâ laipalah ahnimanaw ngaihawi rah vaw, ka canu roi hottelah nahoeh. Cathut e kut teh kai koe ao hoeh toung dawkvah nangmouh roi hanlah lungpatawnae ka tawn atipouh navah
would ye therefore tarry till they were grown? would ye therefore stay from having husbands? nay, my daughters, for it grieveth me much for your sakes, for the hand of Jehovah is gone forth against me.
14 Ahnimanaw teh puenghoi bout a ka awh. Hahoi, Orpah ni a mani hah a paco teh a imthungnaw koe a ban takhai. Hatei, Ruth teh a mani hoi cungtalah o hane a kârawi.
And they lifted up their voice, and wept again: and Orpah kissed her mother-in-law, but Ruth clave unto her.
15 Naomi ni na hmau teh na miphun cathut koe a ban toe. Na hmau e hnuk vah kâbang van leih atipouh navah,
And she said, Behold, thy sister-in-law is gone back unto her people, and unto her god: return thou after thy sister-in-law.
16 Ruth ni nang hoi na kampek sak hanh. Nang koe ka cei hoeh nahanlah sak hanh. Na ceinae pueng koe ka cei han. Na inae koe ka i han. Na miphun teh ka miphun lah ao han. Na Cathut teh ka Cathut lah ao han.
And Ruth said, Entreat me not to leave thee, and to return from following after thee, for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge; thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God;
17 Na duenae koe ka due vaiteh kâpakawp han. Duenae laipalah bang ni hai kapek pawiteh Cathut ni kai koe het hlak hai hno sak naseh, telah atipouh.
where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: Jehovah do so to me, and more also, if aught but death part thee and me.
18 Ruth ni lungtang lahoi a hnukkâbang han ati e Naomi ni a hmu navah lawkkamuem lah a o
And when she saw that she was stedfastly minded to go with her, she left off speaking unto her.
19 Ahnimouh roi teh a kamthaw roi teh Bethlehem a pha roi navah, taminaw ni ruengrueng ati awh teh, hetheh, Naomi namaw telah a pacei awh.
So they two went until they came to Beth-lehem. And it came to pass, when they were come to Beth-lehem, that all the city was moved about them, and [the women] said, Is this Naomi?
20 Naomi ni kai heh Naomi telah na kaw awh hanh lawih. Marah telah na kaw awh lawih. Bangkongtetpawiteh, a Thakasaipounge ni kakhat e hno na poe.
And she said unto them, Call me not Naomi, call me Mara; for the Almighty hath dealt very bitterly with me.

I went out full, and Jehovah hath brought me home again empty; why call ye me Naomi, seeing Jehovah hath testified against me, and the Almighty hath afflicted me?
22 Hottelah, Moab kho hoi ka kâbang e Moab napui, a langa hoi Bethlehem kho vah canga tue nah a pha roi.
So Naomi returned, and Ruth the Moabitess, her daughter-in-law, with her, who returned out of the country of Moab: and they came to Beth-lehem in the beginning of barley harvest.
