[A Psalm] of instruction for David, when he was in the cave, —a Prayer. I cried to the Lord with my voice; with my voice I made supplication to the Lord.

2 Na hma lah ka phuenangnae ka pâpho teh, ka reithainae hai a hmalah ka dei pouh.

I will pour out before him my supplication: I will declare before him mine affliction.

3 Ka muitha ni ka thungvah a puen toteh, Bawipa nang dueng ni doeh kaie lamthung teh na panue. Taminaw ni ka dawn e lamthung dawkvah, tangkam hah arulahoi a patûng awh.

When my spirit was fainting within me, then thou knewest my paths; in the very way wherein I was walking, they hid a snare for me.

4 Aranglah na khet teh na panue. Kai na kapanuekkhaikung apihai awm hoeh. Ka yawng nahane lam hai awm hoeh. Ka hringnae kapasaikung hai awm hoeh.

I looked on [my] right hand, and behold, for there was none that noticed me; refuge failed me; and there was none that cared for my soul.

5 Oe BAWIPA kai teh nang koe vah ka hramki toe. Nang teh kai ni kângue e lah na o teh, kahringnaw onae ram dawk kaie kaham lah ao telah kai ni ka dei.

I cried unto thee, O Lord, and said, Thou art my hope, my portion in the land of the living.

Attend to my supplication, for I am brought very low; deliver me from them that persecute me; for they are stronger than I.

7 Bawipa nange min ka pholen thai nahanelah kai hah thongim thung hoi na rasat haw. Hottelah hawinae na sak toteh, tami kalannaw ni kai hah na kalup awh han.

Bring my soul out of prison, that I may give thanks to thy name, O Lord; the righteous shall wait for me, until thou recompense me.
