Cingthuilawk 7
1 Ka capa, ka lawk hah hringkhai nateh, kaie kâpoelawknaw hah na thung vah pâkuem haw.
[My] son, keep my words, and hide with you my commandments. [My] son, honour the Lord, and you shall be strong; and fear none but him:
2 Kaie kâpoelawk hah, pâkuem nateh, hringkhai haw. Hahoi, Kaie kâpoelawknaw hah na mitmu patetlah ring haw.
keep my commandments, and you shall live; and [keep] my words as the pupils of [your] eyes.
3 Na kutdawnnaw dawk pâkhit nateh, na lungthin dawkvah thut haw.
And bind them on your fingers, and write [them] on the table of your heart.
4 Lungangnae koevah, ka tawncanu lah na o tet nateh, thaipanueknae hah na tawncanu patetlah pouk haw.
Say that wisdom is your sister, and gain prudence as an acquaintance for yourself;
5 Het niyah napui kahawihoehnaw koehoi na hlout sak vaiteh, lawk radip lawk pâhnan naw koehoi na ring han.
that she may keep you from the strange and wicked woman, if she should assail you with flattering words.
6 Kama im e hlalangaw dawk hoi ka khet boteh,
For she looks from a window out of her house into the streets, at one whom she may see of the senseless ones, a young man void of understanding,
7 Kamawngrame thung dawk, nawsai buet touh hah tanglanaw rahak vah ka hmu.
passing by the corner in the passages near her house,
8 Hote napui aonae lamtakin koe a pha awh toteh, ahni im lah ceinae lamtalawi hah a dawn.
and speaking, in the dark of the evening,
9 Tangmin karumsaning a pha toteh,
when there happens [to be] the stillness of night and of darkness:
10 hawvah, hak kamthoup niteh, ka kâyawt e napui ni a kâhmo.
and the woman meets him having the appearance of a harlot, that causes the hearts of young men to flutter.
11 Hote napui teh a im vah duem kaawm thai hoeh e, a lungkatang e lah ao.
And she is fickle, and debauched, and her feet abide not at home.
12 Lamthung hoi lam takin koe ao teh tamipueng hah ouk a pawp.
For at one time she wanders without, and at [another] time she lies in wait in the streets, at every corner.
13 A takawi teh, tang a paco Lungpuennae awm laipalah, hettelah a dei.
Then she caught him, and kissed him, and with an impudent face said to him,
14 Roum thueng hane ka tawn. Sahnin ka lawkkam ka kuep sak han.
I have a peace-offering; today I pay my vows:
15 Hatdawkvah nang dawn hanelah ka tho. Na tawng teh na kâhmo toe.
therefore I came forth to meet you, desiring your face; [and] I have found you.
16 Ka ikhun dawk a meikahawi poung e hni Izip lukkarei a em kaawm e sut ka phai toe.
I have spread my bed with sheets, and I have covered it with double tapestry from Egypt.
17 Ka ikhun teh, murah hoi aloe, nakzik hmuitui hoi ka pathoup toe.
I have sprinkled my couch with saffron, and my house with cinnamon.
18 Tho haw, khodai totouh, lungpatawnae lahoi phaibongcito roi sei.
Come, and let us enjoy love until the morning; come, and let us embrace in love.
19 Bangkongtetpawiteh, ka vâ teh im vah awm hoeh. Tangkabom a sin teh, kho hlanae koe kahlawng yo a cei toe.
For my husband is not at home, but is gone on a long journey,
20 Thapa a kamhluem to doeh tho ti toe telah atipouh.
having taken in his hand a bundle of money: after many days he will return to his house.
21 Lawkdeithoumnae ni a tâ teh, lawk pâhnan hoi a tacuek thai
So with much converse she prevailed on him to go astray, and with the snares of her lips forced him from [the right path].
22 Maitotan ni moi theinae koe a pâtam e patetlah thoseh, sayuk ni a lungthin pala ni a cusin hoehnahlan karap coungroe e patetlah thoseh,
And he followed her, being gently led on, and [that] as an ox is led to the slaughter, and as a dog to bonds, or as a hart shot in the liver with an arrow:
23 Tava ni a due nahanelah patung e tangkam a panue hoeh teh, karanglah a kâen e patetlah thoseh, thoundoun teh hote napui hnuk tang a kâbang.
and he hastens as a bird into a snare, not knowing that he is running for [his] life.
24 Hatdawkvah, ka capanaw, ka lawk heh tarawi awh nateh, ka dei e lawk hah kahawicalah pouk awh.
Now then, [my] son, listen to me, and attend to the words of my mouth.
25 Na lungthin hah hote napui koelah, kamlang sak hanh, a dawn e lam dawk dawn hanh.
Let not your heart turn aside to her ways:
26 Bangkongtetpawiteh, tami moikapap hmâ a paca teh, athakaawme tami moikapap a kamlei sak toe.
for she has wounded and cast down many, and those whom she has slain are innumerable.
