1 Ka canaw, na pa ni na cangkhainae hah thai awh nateh, thaipanueknae hah panue hanelah na hnâpakeng awh.
Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding.
2 Bangkongtetpawiteh, cangkhainae kahawi hah na poe dawkvah, kaie kâlawk hah cettakhai hanh.
For I give you good doctrine, forsake ye not my law.
3 Apa e capa lah ka o navah, anu e capa a pahren e tawntoe e capa lah ka o.
For I was my father’s son, tender and only [beloved] in the sight of my mother.
4 Pâtu hai na pâtu teh, na lungthin hoi ka lawknaw hah pâkuem haw. Kaie kâpoelawknaw hah tarawi nateh hring haw.
He taught me also, and said unto me, Let thine heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live.
5 Lungangnae hah tawn nateh, thaipanueknae hah tawn haw. Ka pahni dawk hoi ka tâcawt e lawknaw hah pahnim laipalah, kamlang takhai hanh.
Get wisdom, get understanding: forget [it] not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.
6 Cettakhai hanh, na ring nakaima. Lungpataw haw na ngue han kaima.
Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee.
7 Lungangnae teh a lawkpui poung doeh.
Wisdom [is] the principal thing; [therefore] get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.
8 Talue sak haw, na tawmrasang han. Tapam haw, barinae koe na ceikhai han.
Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her.
9 Na lû dawk lungmanae na kâmuk sak han, bawilennae bawilakhung hah na kâmuk sak han.
She shall give to thine head an ornament of grace: a crown of glory shall she deliver to thee.
10 Ka capa, ka dei e hah thai nateh, dâw haw. Na hringyung a saw sak han.
Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of thy life shall be many.
11 Lungangnae lamthung na cangkhai teh, lamkalan dawk na hrawi.
I have taught thee in the way of wisdom; I have led thee in right paths.
12 Na cei navah, na khok hanelah kamthuinae awm mahoeh, na yawng navah na tâlaw mahoeh.
When thou goest, thy steps shall not be straitened; and when thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble.
13 Na cangkhainae hah kacaklah kuen nateh, tha laipalah pou kuen haw. Bangkongtetpawiteh, na hringnae doeh.
Take fast hold of instruction; let [her] not go: keep her; for she [is] thy life.
14 Tamikathoutnaw e lamthung dawk kâen awh hanh. Tami kahawihoehnaw e lamthung dawn hanh.
Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil [men].
15 Roun nateh, khoeroe dawn hanh, kamlang takhai nateh, cettakhaih.
Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away.
16 Bangkongtetpawiteh, hno kathout sak hoeh pawiteh, ip thai awh hoeh niteh, tami buetbuet touh tâlaw sak hoehpawiteh, ihmu tho awh hoeh.
For they sleep not, except they have done mischief; and their sleep is taken away, unless they cause [some] to fall.
17 Bangkongtetpawiteh, thoenae vaiyei hah a ca awh teh, rektapnae yamu hah a nei awh.
For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence.
18 Hatei, tamikalannaw e lamthung teh, kanî raeng, kanî tuengtalueng a thunnae kanî ang patetlah ao.
But the path of the just [is] as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.
19 Tamikathoutnaw e lamthung teh khohmo patetlah ao teh, tâlawnae akungcing hai panuek awh hoeh.
The way of the wicked [is] as darkness: they know not at what they stumble.
20 Ka capa, ka lawk kahawicalah thai haw, ka dei e hah atangcalah pouk.
My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.
21 Na mit hoi kâhlat sak hanh, na lungthin dawk pâkuemh.
Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.
22 Bangkongtetpawiteh, kahmawtnaw hanelah hringnae lah ao teh, a takthai abuemlah hanelah damnae lah ao.
For they [are] life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.
23 Hno pueng hlak hoi na lungthin hah kahawicalah ring haw. Bangkongtetpawiteh, hringnae akungtuen lah ao.
Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it [are] the issues of life.
24 Dumyennae pahni hah pahnawt nateh, payonnae pahni hah ahlanae koe takhoe haw.
Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee.
25 Na mit hoi hmalah kalan lah khen nateh, na hmalah kalan lah radoung haw.
Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee.
26 Na lamthung hah hmaloe rip nateh, na lamthung pueng hah cak sak.
Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established.
27 Aranglah nakunghai, avoilah nakunghai phen hanh. Thoenae lamthung hah roun haw.
Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil.
