1 Tamikathout teh apinihai pâlei hoeh eiteh a yawng, hatei tamikalan teh sendek patetlah a taran ahawi.
The ungodly [man] flees when no one pursues: but the righteous is confident as a lion.
2 Khocanaw lawkeknae kecu dawk khobawinaw tuhoitu a kâthung awh, hatei thaipanueknae hoi panuenae katawnnaw kecu dawk ram a kangning han.
By reason of the sins of ungodly men quarrels arise; but a wise man will quell them.
3 Tamimathoe ni tamimathoe repcoungroe e teh ca hane pek laipalah ka cetkhai e longhotui hoi a kâvan.
A bold man oppresses the poor by ungodly deeds. As an impetuous and profitable rain,
4 Kâlawk ka cettakhai e ni tamikathout a pholen, hatei kâlawk ka tarawi ni ouk a tuk awh.
so they that forsake the law praise ungodliness; but they that love the law fortify themselves with a wall.
5 Tamikathoutnaw ni lannae thaipanuek awh hoeh, hatei BAWIPA katawngnaw ni bangpueng hai a thaipanuek.
Evil men will not understand judgment: but they that seek the Lord will understand everything.
6 Tawnta laihoi a khuekhaw awm laipalah hring hlak teh tamimathoe yuemkamculah kaawm e ahawihnawn.
A poor man walking in truth is better than a rich liar.
7 Kâlawk ka tarawi e teh a lungkaang e capa doeh, ka kâso e hoi kamyawng e ni a na pa yeirai a po sak.
A wise son keeps the law: but he that keeps up debauchery dishonors his father.
8 Apung ka cat ni teh kalan hoeh e lahoi hnopai ka tawnta e ni tamimathoe kabawmkung hanelah a pâtung pouh.
He that increases his wealth by usuries and [unjust] gains, gathers it for him that pities the poor.
9 Kâlawk ka tarawi ngai hoeh e teh a ratoumnae hai panuet a tho.
He that turns away his ear from hearing the law, even he has made his prayer abominable.
10 Thoenae lam dawk tamikalan lam ka phen sak e teh ama ni a tai e tangkom dawk a bo han, hatei toun kaawm hoeh e ni hnokahawi a coe han.
He that causes upright men to err in an evil way, himself shall fall into destruction: transgressor also shall pass by prosperity, but shall not enter into it.
11 Ka tawnta e ni amahoima a lungkaang lah a kâpouk, hatei thaipanueknae ka tawn e tamimathoe ni peng a pâpho han.
A rich man is wise in his own conceit; but an intelligent poor man will condemn him.
12 Tamikalan a lunghawi navah kalen e bawilennae ao, hatei tamikathout a kangdue toteh taminaw a kâhro awh.
By reason of the help of righteous men great glory arises: but in the places of the ungodly men are caught.
13 Amae yonae ka hrawk e teh hawinae hmawt mahoeh, hatei ka pâpho e ni pahrennae a hmu han.
He that covers his own ungodliness shall not prosper: but he that blames [himself] shall be loved.
14 Takinae pou ka tawn e teh a yawkahawi e doeh, hatei a lung pou ka patak e teh rawkkahmanae hoi a kâhmo han.
Blessed is the man who religiously fears always: but the hard of heart shall fall into mischiefs.
15 Mathoenaw kaukkung bawi kathout teh sendek ka huk e hoi tavom ka hram e patetlah ao.
A hungry lion and a thirsty wolf [is he], who, being poor, rules over a poor nation.
16 Thaipanueknae ka vout e ukkung niteh rep a coungroe hatei hounlounnae ka hmuhma e ukkung teh a hringsaw han.
A king in need of revenues is a great oppressor: but he that hates injustice shall live a long time.
17 Tamikathet e teh phuen tangkom koe yawng na lawiseh, apinihai ngang nahan seh.
He that becomes surety for a man charged with murder shall be an exile, and not in safety. Chasten your son, and he shall love you, and give honor to your soul: he shall not obey a sinful nation.
18 Lam kalan dawk ka dawn e tami teh a hlout han, hatei lam longkawi dawk ka dawn e teh vaitalahoi a rawp han.
He that walks justly is assisted: but he that walks in crooked ways shall be entangled [therein].
19 Laikawk ka thawn e teh rawca moi a tawn han, hatei ayawmyinlah kaawm e tami teh a mathoe han.
He that tills his own land shall be satisfied with bread: but he that follows idleness shall have plenty of poverty.
20 Yuemkamcu e ni yawhawinae kapap a hmu han, hatei dongdengca dawk tawnta hanelah kâcai e teh rek laipalah awm mahoeh.
A man worthy of credit shall be much blessed: but the wicked shall not be unpunished.
21 Minhmai khet tawnnae teh hawi hoeh, vaiyei tangen kecu dawk tami kâlawk ouk a tapoe awh.
He that reverences not the persons of the just is not good: such a one will sell a man for a morsel of bread.
22 Dongdengca dawk tawnta hanelah kâcai e tami teh thoenae mit a tawn, bout mathoe han doeh tie pouk hoeh.
An envious man makes haste to be rich, and knows not that the merciful man will have the mastery over him.
23 Tami ka oup e hlak teh tami ka yue e ni a hnukkhu pholennae a coe han.
He that reproves a man's ways shall have more favor than he that flatters with the tongue.
24 A manu hoi a na pa hno ka lawm niteh, kâtapoenae nahoeh ka tet e tami teh, karaphoekung e hui doeh.
He that casts off father or mother, and thinks he sins not; the same is partaker with an ungodly man.
25 Tami kâoup e lungthin ni kâyuenae a tâcokhai, hatei BAWIPA kâuep e teh a lamcawn han.
An unbelieving man judges rashly: but he that trusts in the Lord will act carefully.
26 Amae pouknae ka kâuep e teh tamipathu doeh, hatei lungang lahoi kaawm e teh hlout lah ao han.
He that trusts to a bold heart, such an one is a fool: but he that walks in wisdom shall be safe.
27 Tamimathoenaw hno ka poe e teh vout mahoeh, hatei ka roun e tami teh puenghoi thoebonae a hmu han.
He that gives to the poor shall not be in lack: but he that turns away his eye [from him] shall be in great distress.
28 Tamikathoutnaw a kangdue toteh taminaw amahmawk a kâhro awh, hatei a rawk awh toteh tamikalannaw a pung awh.
In the places of ungodly [men] the righteous mourn: but in their destruction the righteous shall be multiplied.
