1 Tangtho e hnin hanlah kâoup hanh, bangkongtetpawiteh bangmaw a tâcokhai han tie na panuek hoeh.
Boast not of to-morrow; for you know not what the next day shall bring forth.
2 Namahoima laipalah ayâ ni na pholen naseh, nama e pahni ni laipalah alouke ni na pholen naseh.
Let your neighbor, and not your own mouth, praise you; a stranger, and not your own lips.
3 Talung hai a ri teh sadi hai a ri, hatei tamipathu lungkhueknae teh hotnaw hlak a ri hnawn.
A stone is heavy, and sand cumbersome; but a fool's wrath is heavier than both.
4 Lungkhueknae teh a mathoe, lungphuennae teh a matheng, hatei utnae teh apinimaw a khang thai han.
Wrath is merciless, and anger sharp: but envy can bear nothing.
5 Hro e lungpatawnae hlak teh hmantang yue e ahawihnawn.
Open reproofs are better than secret love.
6 Hmâ na ka paca e hui teh yuem a kamcu, hatei taran ni na paco e teh dumyennae doeh.
The wounds of a friend are more to be trusted than the spontaneous kisses of an enemy.
7 A von ka paha tangcoung e ni teh khoipha patenghai ngai mahoeh toe, hatei a von ka hlam e tami hanelah teh kakhat e patenghai a radip.
A full soul scorns honeycombs; but to a hungry soul even bitter things appear sweet.
8 Ma e imlaw ka palum ngai hoeh e teh, tava a tabu dawk kaawm ngai hoeh e hoi a kâvan.
As when a bird flies down from its own nest, so a man is brought into bondage whenever he estranges himself from his own place.
9 Satui hoi hmuitui ni lungthin a konawm sak teh, hui kahawi ni pouknae na poe e ni hringnae konawm sak.
The heart delights in ointments and wines and perfumes: but the soul is broken by calamities.
10 Na pa e hui hoi nama e hui kapek hanh, runae na kâhmo navah na hmaunawngha im kuekluek cet hanh, ahlanae koe e na hmaunawngha hlak teh a hnainae koe e na hui a hawihnawn.
Your own friend, and your father's friend, forsake not; and when you are in distress go not into your brother's house: better is a friend [that is] near than a brother living far off.
11 Na ka pacekpahlek e ka pathung thai nahanlah ka capa, lungang haw, ka lungthin konawm sak haw.
Son, be wise, that your heart may rejoice; and remove you from yourself reproachful words.
12 Tamilungkaang ni thoenae hah sut a hmu teh a kâhro, kamawngrame ni teh a kâphumsin teh rek e lah ouk ao.
A wise man, when evils are approaching, hides himself; but fools pass on, and will be punished.
13 Tamitavan hanelah amahkhankung teh a angki amahkhan nahanelah la pouh lah ao vaiteh napui koe poe naseh.
Take away the man's garment, (for a scorner has passed by) whoever lays waste another's goods.
14 Amom a thaw teh kacaipounglah a hui yawhawi ka poe e teh, thoebonae lah pouk pouh lah ao han.
Whosoever shall bless a friend in the morning with a loud voice, shall seem to differ nothing from one who curses [him].
15 Lai pou ka roe e yu teh, Puenghoi khonan hnin e khoramei hoi a kâvan.
On a stormy day drops [of rain] drive a man out of his house; so also does a railing woman [drive a man] out of his own house.
16 Hote napui ka pâkuem e teh, kahlî ka pâkuem niteh, aranglae kut dawk satui kasum e hoi a kâvan.
The north wind is sharp, but it is called by name propitious.
17 Sum teh sum hoi doeh letlang hran sak thai, hot patetlah tami ni a hui e a minhmai ouk a pan sak.
Iron sharpens iron; and a man sharpens his friend's countenance.
18 Thaibunglung kung ka tawn e pueng ni thaibunglung paw a ca han, hot patetlah a bawi e thaw ka tawk e teh bari lah ao han.
He that plants a fig tree shall eat the fruits of it: so he that waits on his own master shall be honored.
19 Tui dawk coungnae a kamnue, hot patetlah tami lungthin ni tami a kamnue sak.
As faces are not like [other] faces, so neither are the thoughts of men.
20 Sheol hoi rawkkahmanae teh khout boihoeh, hot patetlah tami e mit ni a khout tie tawn boihoeh. (Sheol h7585)
Hell and destruction are not filled; so also are the eyes of men insatiable. [He that fixes his eye is an abomination to the Lord; and the uninstructed do not restrain their tongue.] (Sheol h7585)
21 Sôlêinae manang teh ngun hanelah, takhuenhmai teh sui hanelah ao. Tami teh oup e lahoi a bawilennae panue lah ao.
Fire is the trial for silver and gold; and a man is tried by the mouth of them that praise him. The heart of the transgressor seeks after mischiefs; but an upright heart seeks knowledge.
22 Tamipathu teh sumdawk cakang hoi mek ka phawm nakunghai a pathunae ni cettakhai pawm mahoeh.
Though you scourge a fool, disgracing him in the midst of the council, you will [still] in no wise remove his folly from him.
23 Na tuhu kong panue nahanlah panki loe, na saringhu hah kahawicalah a kountouk.
Do you thoroughly know the number of your flock, and pay attention to your herds.
24 Bangkongtetpawiteh, tawntanae heh a yungyoe kangning hoeh, hoehpawiteh bawilukhung heh se pueng dawk kangning hoeh.
For a man [has] not strength and power for ever; neither does he transmit it from generation to generation.
25 Phonaw hai a pâw, catinaw hai a pâw, law e a pawnaw hai khue lah ao.
Take care of the herbage in the field, and you shall cut grass, and gather the mountain hay;
26 Tunaw ni na khohna hane hmaenaw ni lawhmuen ran nahane ouk a thokhai.
that you may have [wool of] sheep for clothing: pay attention to the land, that you may have lambs.
27 Nang ni na ca hane, imthungnaw ca hane, sannunaw ca hanelah hmae sanutui teh a khout han doeh.
[My] son, you have from me words very useful for your life, and for the life of your servants.
