A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.

The rich and poor meet together: Yhwh is the maker of them all.
3 Kâhruetcuet e ni teh hnokathout a hmu navah a kâhro, hatei kamawngrame ni teh a ceisin teh rek e lah ouk ao.
A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished.
4 Kârahnoumnae hoi BAWIPA takinae ni tawntanae hoi barinae hoi hringnae a tâcokhai.
By humility and the fear of Yhwh are riches, and honour, and life.

Thorns and snares are in the way of the perverse: he that doth keep his soul shall be far from them.
6 Camo ni a dawn hane lamthung pâtu haw, a matawng to hai phen mahoeh toe.
Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
7 Tami ka tawnta ni tamimathoe a uk, ka câwi e tami teh kacâwisakkung koe san lah ao.
The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.
8 Payonpakainae cati ka tu e ni lungmathoenae a a vaiteh, a lungkhueknae sonron a khoe han.
He that soweth iniquity shall reap vanity: and the rod of his anger shall fail.
9 Pahrennae mit ka tawn e teh yawhawi a coe han, bangkongtetpawiteh tamimathoenaw ouk a kawk toe.
He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed; for he giveth of his bread to the poor.
10 Dudamnaw pâlei haw kâounnae tang a roum han, kâyuenae hoi kâpakungnae hai a roum han.
Cast out the scorner, and contention shall go out; yea, strife and reproach shall cease.

He that loveth pureness of heart, for the grace of his lips the king shall be his friend.

The eyes of Yhwh preserve knowledge, and he overthroweth the words of the transgressor.

The slothful man saith, There is a lion without, I shall be slain in the streets.
14 Napui kahawihoehe pahni teh kadunge tangkom doeh, BAWIPA ni a panuet e teh hawvah a bo han.
The mouth of strange women is a deep pit: he that is abhorred of Yhwh shall fall therein.
15 Pathunae heh camo lungthin dawk a kâbet teh, yuenae bongpai ni ahlanae koe ouk a pâlei.
Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.
16 Ma mek nahanelah tamimathoenaw ka rektap e hoi, katawntanaw ka poe e tami teh hoehoe a mathoe han.
He that oppresseth the poor to increase his riches, and he that giveth to the rich, shall surely come to want.
17 Tamilungkaangnaw e lawk heh kahawicalah thai nateh, na lungthin hoi kaie lungangnae hah dâw haw.
Bow down thine ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply thine heart unto my knowledge.
18 Bangkongtetpawiteh, na thung hoi na pâkuem pawiteh hothateh lunghawinae doeh, na pahni dawk pou awm seh.
For it is a pleasant thing if thou keep them within thee; they shall withal be fitted in thy lips.
19 Hottelahoi BAWIPA teh na kâuep thai han, sahnin vah nang koe na panuesak toe.
That thy trust may be in Yhwh, I have made known to thee this day, even to thee.
20 Kâpankhainae hoi panuenae kahawi poung e hah na thut pouh toe nahoehmaw.
Have not I written to thee excellent things in counsels and knowledge,
21 Nang ni lawkkatang katang na panue vaiteh, nang koe patoun e naw hah lawkkatang lawk bout na dei pouh thai han.
That I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth; that thou mightest answer the words of truth to them that send unto thee?
22 Mathoenaw e mathoenae hah thakâla hoi ahnie hno lawm hanh, ka cunathoehnaw hai kho longkha koe coungroe hanh.
Rob not the poor, because he is poor: neither oppress the afflicted in the gate:
23 Bangkongtetpawiteh, BAWIPA ni ahnimae kong a pouk han doeh, ahnimae hno kalawmnaw e hringnae a lawp pouh van han.
For Yhwh will plead their cause, and spoil the soul of those that spoiled them.
24 A lungkaduem e tami hah kamyawngkhai hanh, a lungkhuek thai poung e tami hai kamyawngkhai hanh.
Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go:
25 Ahnimae nuen na kamtu vaiteh, na hringnae a kâman han.
Lest thou learn his ways, and get a snare to thy soul.

Be not thou one of them that strike hands, or of them that are sureties for debts.

If thou hast nothing to pay, why should he take away thy bed from under thee?
28 Na mintoenaw ni ung e khori hah takhoe hanh.
Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set.
29 Thaw kahawicalah ka tawk ni teh ka cuem e na hmu boi ou, siangpahrangnaw hmalah hai a kangdue han doeh, tami rumram e hmalah kangdout mahoeh.
Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.
