< Cingthuilawk 19 >

1 A lawk ka longkawi e tamipathu hlak, mathoe laihoi yuemkamcu hringnae ahawihnawn.
BETTER is the poor that walketh in his integrity, than he that is perverse in his lips, and is a fool.
2 Panuenae tawn laipalah hringnae hai hawi hoeh, a khok a hue ka rang e hai a payon thai.
Also, that the soul be without knowledge, it is not good; and he that hasteth with his feet sinneth.
3 A pathunae ni lamthung a payon sak teh, a lungthung hoi BAWIPA ouk a taran.
The foolishness of man perverteth his way: and his heart fretteth against the Lord.
4 Hnopai ni huiko moi a sak, hatei tamimathoe teh a hui ni a ceitakhai.
Wealth maketh many friends; but the poor is separated from his neighbour.
5 Ka panuekkhaikung kaphawk teh rek laipalah tâcawt mahoeh, laithoe ka dei e hai hlout mahoeh.
A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall not escape.
6 Tami kapap ni bawi e lungyouk hanelah a kâcai awh, poehno ka poe e tami hai tami pueng ni a kamyawngkhai.
Many will intreat the favour of the prince: and every man is a friend to him that giveth gifts.
7 Tamimathoe teh a hmaunawngha pueng ni hai a hmuhma, a huinaw natawng teh ahlanae koe doeh hoe ao awh, lawkkanem lahoi a pâlei ei nakunghai hoe a yawng takhai awh.
All the brethren of the poor do hate him: how much more do his friends go far from him? he pursueth them with words, yet they are wanting to him.
He that getteth wisdom loveth his own soul: he that keepeth understanding shall find good.
9 Ka panuekkhaikung kaphawk teh rek laipalah tâcawt mahoeh, laithoe ka dei e hai a rawk han.
A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall perish.
10 Hringnawmnae heh tamipathunaw hanelah kamcu hoeh, san ni khobawi a uk e heh hoe kamcu hoeh.
Delight is not seemly for a fool; much less for a servant to have rule over princes.
The discretion of a man deferreth his anger; and it is his glory to pass over a transgression.
12 Siangpahrang lungkhuek e teh sendek ka huk e patetlah ao, hatei a ngaikhainae teh hram dawk ka bawt e tadamtui patetlah ao.
The king’s wrath is as the roaring of a lion; but his favour is as dew upon the grass.
A foolish son is the calamity of his father: and the contentions of a wife are a continual dropping.
14 Im hoi tawntanae teh napanaw koehoi coe e râw doeh, hatei yu kahawi teh BAWIPA koehoi e doeh.
House and riches are the inheritance of fathers: and a prudent wife is from the Lord.
Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep; and an idle soul shall suffer hunger.
16 Kâpoelawk ka tarawi e teh a hringnae a ring, hatei ka pahnawt e teh a due han.
He that keepeth the commandment keepeth his own soul; but he that despiseth his ways shall die.
17 Tamimathoe ka pahren e teh BAWIPA koe a cawi sak toe, a poe tangcoung e hno hah bout poe lah ao han.
He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the Lord; and that which he hath given will he pay him again.
Chasten thy son while there is hope, and let not thy soul spare for his crying.
A man of great wrath shall suffer punishment: for if thou deliver him, yet thou must do it again.
20 Kâpankhainae hah thai haw, cangkhainae hah dâw haw, bangkongtetpawiteh, hmalah na lung a ang han.
Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end.
There are many devices in a man’s heart; nevertheless the counsel of the Lord, that shall stand.
22 Tami ni a ngai poung e teh pahrennae hah doeh, laithoe dei e hlak mathoe e ahawihnawn.
The desire of a man is his kindness: and a poor man is better than a liar.
23 BAWIPA takinae ni hringnae koe lah a ceikhai, hote hringnae ka tawn e teh a lung a kuep vaiteh, hnokathout ni thosin mahoeh.
The fear of the Lord tendeth to life: and he that hath it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil.
24 Tami ka pangak ni a kut a kâyap teh rawca a kâtu hane boehai ngai hoeh.
A slothful man hideth his hand in his bosom, and will not so much as bring it to his mouth again.
25 Ka dudam e tami hah hem haw, kamawngrame tami teh a kâhlaw yawkaw han doeh, a lungkaang e tami hah yue haw patopatang han
Smite a scorner, and the simple will beware: and reprove one that hath understanding, and he will understand knowledge.
He that wasteth his father, and chaseth away his mother, is a son that causeth shame, and bringeth reproach.
Cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causeth to err from the words of knowledge.
28 Cungkeihoehe kapanuekkhaikung ni lawkcengnae kalan a dudam teh, tamikathout e pahni ni payonpakainae a payawp.
An ungodly witness scorneth judgment: and the mouth of the wicked devoureth iniquity.
29 Lawkcengnae heh kadudamnaw hanelah hruek e lah ao teh, hemnae bongpai teh tamipathunaw e hnukthun hane doeh.
Judgments are prepared for scorners, and stripes for the back of fools.
