3 Ngun sôlêi nahanelah manang, sui sôlêi nahanelah takhuenhmai, hatei BAWIPA ni lungthin a tanouk.
As silver is tried by fire, and gold in the furnace: so the Lord trieth the hearts.
4 Thoenae kasaknaw ni teh laithoe dueng a thai ngai awh teh, laithoe kadeinaw ni hai laithoe lawk a thai ngai awh.
The evil man obeyeth an unjust tongue: and the deceitful hearkeneth to lying lips.
5 Tamimathoe ka dudam e ni kasakkung a dudam teh, ayânaw runae a kâhmo navah a lungkahawi e tami hai hlout mahoeh.
He that despiseth the poor, reproacheth his Maker; and he that rejoiceth at another man’s ruin, shall not be unpunished.
6 Mincanaw teh matawngnaw e bawilukhung doeh, camonaw bawilennae teh a napanaw doeh.
Children’s children are the crown of old men: and the glory of children are their fathers.
7 Lawkkanem hoi tamipathu kamcu hoeh, laithoe deinae pahni teh bawi hoi hoe kamcu hoeh.
Eloquent words do not become a fool, nor lying lips a prince.
8 Tadawnghno teh ka dâw e tami koe talung phukaawm hoi a kâvan, a kangvawi tangkuem koe hawinae a hmu.
The expectation of him that expecteth, is a most acceptable jewel: whithersoever he turneth himself, he understandeth wisely.
9 Lawkeknae ka ramuk pouh e ni lungpatawnae a tawng, hatei boutbout ka dei pouh e tami ni teh huiko a kapek.
He that concealeth a transgression. seeketh friendships: he that repeateth it again, separateth friends.
10 Tamipathu avai cum touh hem e hlak tamilungkaang vai touh yue e aphuohnawn.
A reproof availeth more with a wise man, than a hundred stripes with a fool.
11 Tamikahawihoeh ni kâtaran nahane dueng doeh a tawng, hatdawkvah patoune kathout hoi a kâhmo han.
An evil man always seeketh quarrels: but a cruel angel shall be sent against him.
12 Tamipathu a pathu lahun nah kâhmo e hlak teh, a ca kahmat e tavom hoi kâhmo pawiteh bet ahawihnawn.
It is better to meet a bear robbed of her whelps, than a fool trusting in his own folly.
13 Hawinae hah thoenae hoi ka pathung e tami teh hnokathout ni a imthung tâcawt takhai mahoeh.
He that rendereth evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house.
14 Kâyuenae teh tuiim dawk hoi tui ka yu e patetlah ao, hatdawkvah kâyue hoehnahlan kâounnae hah roun lawih.
The beginning of quarrels is as when one letteth out water: before he suffereth reproach he forsaketh judgment.
15 Tamikayon a yon ka ngaithoum e tami hoi, tamikalan yon kapen e tami hah BAWIPA ni a panuet
He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just, both are abominable before God.
16 Tamipathu ni lungangnae a ngai hoeh dawkvah, lungangnae ran nahane hnopai hah bangkongmaw ahni kut dawk poe han vaw.
What doth it avail a fool to have riches, seeing he cannot buy wisdom? He that maketh his house high, seeketh a downfall: and he that refuseth to learn, shall fall into evils.
17 Hui ni teh nâtuek hai lung na pataw teh, hmaunawngha teh runae kâhmo tueng nahanelah doeh a khe.
He that is a friend loveth at all times: and a brother is proved in distress.
18 Thaipanueknae ka tawn hoeh e niteh kuttabei kâtambei hoi a hui hmalah lawk a kam.
A foolish man will clap hands, when he is surety for his friend.
19 Lawkeknae ka ngai e ni teh kâyuenae hai a ngai, a longkha ka rasangsak e ni rawknae hah a tawng.
He that studieth discords, loveth quarrels: and he that exalteth his door, seeketh ruin.
20 Dumyennae lungthin ka tawn e ni hnokahawi hmawt mahoeh, laithoe ka dei e tami teh runae hoi a kâhmo han.
He that is of a perverse heart, shall not find good: and he that perverteth his tongue, shall fall into evil.
21 Tamipathu ka khe e tami teh amahoima a lungmathoe sak, ka pathu e capa ka tawn e tami teh konawmnae tawn hoeh.
A fool is born to his own disgrace: and even his father shall not rejoice in a fool.
22 Lungthin konawm e heh kahawipoung e tâsi hoi a kâvan teh, lungthin reknae ni hru a ke sak.
A joyful mind maketh age flourishing: a sorrowful spirit drieth up the bones.
23 Tamikathout ni lannae lamthung phen hanelah a hnukkhu lahoi hno ouk a lawp.
The wicked man taketh gifts out of the bosom, that he may pervert the paths of judgment.
24 Lungangnae teh thaipanueknae katawnkung hmalah ao teh, tamipathu e mit ni teh talai pout totouh ouk a khet.
Wisdom shineth in the face of the wise: the eyes of fools are in the ends of the earth.
25 Capa pathu e teh na pa lung kamathoutsakkung lah ao teh, kakhekung manu hanelah hai ka khat poung e lah ao.
A foolish son is the anger of the father: and the sorrow of the mother that bore him.
26 Tamikalan rek hanelah awm hoeh, ka talue e hai a hawi nahlangva hem hanelah awm hoeh.
It is no good thing to do hurt to the just: nor to strike the prince, who judgeth right.
27 Panuenae ka tawn e ni lawk a kâsum teh, thaipanueknae ka tawn e teh roumnae muitha ka tawn e doeh.
He that setteth bounds to his words. is knowing and wise: and the man of understanding is of a precious spirit.
28 Tamipathu hai duem awm pawiteh, tamilungkaang patetlah pouk e lah ao, a pahnicakuep pawiteh thaipanueknae ka tawn patetlah pouk e lah ao.
Even a fool, if he will hold his peace shall be counted wise: and if he close his lips, a man of understanding.
