1 A lungkaang e napui ni teh a im hah a sak, hatei ka pathu e ni teh amae kut hoi ouk a raphoe.
Wise women build houses: but a foolish one digs [hers] down with her hands.
2 Kalanlah ka hring e ni BAWIPA a bari, hatei a hringnae ka longkawi e ni teh a dumdam.
He that walks uprightly fears the Lord; but he that is perverse in his ways shall be dishonoured.
3 Tamipathu e pahni dawk kaisuenae bongpai ao, hatei tamilungkaang e pahni ni teh kânguenae a poe.
Out of the mouth of fools [comes] a rod of pride; but the lips of the wise preserve them.
4 Maitotan ohoehnae koe maito im a thoung, hatei moikapap pungnae teh maitotha dawk doeh ao.
Where no oxen are, the cribs are clean; but where there is abundant produce, the strength of the ox is apparent.
5 Yuemkamcu e ka panuekkhaikung teh laithoe dei hoeh, hatei kapanuekkhaikung kaphawk ni doeh laithoe ouk a dei.
A faithful witness does not lie; but an unjust witness kindles falsehoods.
6 Ka dudam e tami ni teh lungangnae ka tawng nakunghai hmawt mahoeh, hatei kathaipanueknaw hanelah teh panuenae heh ayawica.
Thou shalt seek wisdom with bad men, and shalt not find it; but discretion is easily available with the prudent.
7 A pahni panuenae na hmu hoeh toteh, tamipathu teh cettakhai yawkaw.
All things are adverse to a foolish man; but wise lips are the weapons of discretion.
8 Ma e coungnae panue e heh poukthainae ka tawn e lungangnae doeh, hatei tamipathunaw e pathunae teh dumnae doeh.
The wisdom of the prudent will understand their ways; but the folly of fools leads astray.
9 Tamipathu ni teh yonnae a panuikhai, hatei tamikalannaw koe ngaikhainae ao.
The houses of transgressors will need purification; but the houses of the just are acceptable.
10 Lungthin patawnae heh lungthin ni doeh a panue, ayânaw ni teh lunghawinae hai hmawngkhai katang hoeh.
[If] a man's mind is intelligent, his soul is sorrowful; and when he rejoices, he has no fellowship with pride.
11 Tamikathout imthung teh ka rawk han doeh, hatei tamikalan e rim teh a kamhlawng han.
The houses of ungodly men shall be utterly destroyed; but the tabernacles of them that walk uprightly shall stand.
12 Tami pouknae lahoi teh lam kalan lah a kamcu eiteh, apoutnae koe lah duenae koe ka phat e lam hai ao.
There is a way which seems to be right with men, but the ends of it reach to the depths of hell. ()
13 Panui lahun nahai lung a mathoe teh, panuinae a poutnae heh lungmathoenae lah a coung thai.
Grief mingles not with mirth; and joy in the end comes to grief.
14 Lungthin hoi hnuklah ka ban e teh, ama ngainae hoi a kawi han, hatei tamikahawi teh hot patet e lathueng vah ao dawkvah a lunghawi han.
A stout-hearted [man] shall be filled with his own ways; and a good man with his own thoughts.
15 Kamawngrame ni dei e pueng a yuem awh, hatei kâhruetcuet e tami ni teh a cei nahane lamthung kahawicalah a pouk.
The simple believes every word: but the prudent man betakes himself to after-thought.
16 Tamilungkaang ni teh a taki dawkvah yonnae hah a roun, hatei tamipathu ni teh amahoima a kâyuem teh a taran a hawi sak.
A wise man fears, and departs from evil; but the fool trusts in himself, and joins himself with the transgressor.
17 Tami lungkaduem teh pathu laihoi a kâroe, hatei tamikathout e noenae teh hmuhmanae doeh.
A passionate man acts inconsiderately; but a sensible man bears up under many things.
18 Kamawngrame e coe e teh pathunae doeh, hatei kho ka pouk e teh panuenae kâmuksak lah ao.
Fools shall have mischief for their portion; but the prudent shall take fast hold of understanding.
19 Tamikahawi teh tamikahawi hmalah a tabut vaiteh, tamikathout teh tamikalan e takhang koe a tabut han.
Evil men shall fall before the good; and the ungodly shall attend at the gates of the righteous.
20 Tamikathout teh a imri ni hai a hmuhma, hatei tami ka tawnta ni hui moi a tawn.
Friends will hate poor friends; but the friends of the rich are many.
21 A imri ka dudam e teh tamikayon doeh, hatei tamimathoe ka pahren e teh a lungkahawi e lah ao.
He that dishonours the needy sins: but he that has pity on the poor is most blessed.
22 Hnokathout ka pouk e teh lam a phen toung nahoehmaw, hatei lungmanae hoi lawkkatang teh hawinae kapouknaw hane doeh.
They that go astray devise evils: but the good devise mercy and truth. The framers of evil do not understand mercy and truth: but compassion and faithfulness are with the framers of good.
23 Tawknae pueng dawk meknae ao teh, pahni hoi dei rumram e teh voutnae doeh.
With every one [who is] careful there is abundance: but the pleasure-taking and indolent shall be in want.
24 Tamilungkaangnaw e bawilukhung teh tawntanae doeh, hatei tamipathu pathunae hateh a pathunae doeh.
A prudent man is the crown of the wise: but the occupation of fools is evil.
25 Kapanuekkhaikung katang ni teh hringnae a rungngang, hatei kapanuekkhaikung kaphawk ni teh laithoe ouk a dei.
A faithful witness shall deliver a soul from evil: but a deceitful [man] kindles falsehoods.
26 BAWIPA takinae dawkvah a taranhawi laihoi a tha ao teh, a canaw ni kânguenae a pang awh han.
In the fear of the Lord is strong confidence: and he leaves his children a support.
27 BAWIPA takinae teh hringnae tuiphuek lah ao teh, duenae karap dawk hoi kamlang sakkung lah ao.
The commandment of the Lord is a fountain of life; and it causes [men] to turn aside from the snare of death.
28 Tamimaya koe siangpahrang barinae ao teh, tami younca koe e ukkung teh rawkphainae doeh.
In a populous nation is the glory of a king: but in the failure of people is the ruin of a prince.
29 A lung kasawe ni thaipanueknae a tawn, hatei tami lungkaduem e teh pathu tawmrasangnae doeh.
A man slow to wrath abounds in wisdom: but a man of impatient spirit is very foolish.
30 Lungthin damnae teh tak hanelah hringnae lah ao teh utsinnae teh hru ka rawk sakkung doeh.
A meek-spirited man is a healer of the heart: but a sensitive heart is a corruption of the bones.
31 Tamimathoe repcoungroe e teh ama kasakkung dudam e lah ao, hatei kasakkung ka bari e ni tami kavoutthoupnaw pahrennae a tawn.
He that oppresses the needy provokes his Maker: but he that honours him has pity upon the poor.
32 Tamikathout teh a thoenae ni letlang a pâlei teh, tamikalan teh a duenae koe kânguenae a tawn.
The ungodly shall be driven away in his wickedness: but he who is secure in his own holiness is just.
33 Thaipanueknae katawnnaw lungthin dawk lungangnae ao, hatei tamipathu e lungthung kaawm e teh kamnue sak lah ao toe.
There is wisdom in the good heart of a man: but in the heart of fools it is not discerned.
34 Lannae ni miphun a tawmrasang, hatei yonnae teh tami pueng hanelah min mathoenae doeh.
Righteousness exalts a nation: but sins diminish tribes.
35 Tamilungkaang okhai e teh siangpahrang ni a ngai pouh, hatei yeirai ka po sakkung koe a lung ouk a khuek
An understanding servant is acceptable to a king; and by his good behaviour he removes disgrace.
