1 Isarel siangpahrang, Devit capa Solomon e cingthuilawknaw:
These are the proverbs of Solomon son of David, king of Israel,
2 Lungangnae hoi cangkhainae panue hane hoi thaipanuenae lawk hah thaipanuek hane hoi,
for gaining wisdom and discipline, for comprehending words of insight,
3 lungangnae, lannae, lawkcengnae hoi lannae koelah cangkhainae pang hane hoi,
and for receiving instruction in wise living and in righteousness, justice, and equity.
4 kamawngrame kâhruetcuet poe hane hoi, thoundounnaw ni panuenae hoi poukthainae a tawn awh nahanlah,
To impart prudence to the simple and knowledge and discretion to the young,
let the wise listen and gain instruction, and the discerning acquire wise counsel
6 Cingthuilawk hoi bangnuenae, lungangnae hoi kâpâvêinae naw thaipanuek nahanlah,
by understanding the proverbs and parables, the sayings and riddles of the wise.
7 BAWIPA takinae teh panuenae kamtawngnae doeh. Hatei, tamipathunaw ni teh lungangnae hoi cingthuinae hah a dudam awh.
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.
Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction, and do not forsake the teaching of your mother.
For they are a garland of grace on your head and a pendant around your neck.
My son, if sinners entice you, do not yield to them.
11 Kai koe tho van haw, tami thei hanelah pawm sei. A khuekhaw awm laipalah yonnae ka tawn hoeh naw hah arulahoi pawm awh sei.
If they say, “Come along, let us lie in wait for blood, let us ambush the innocent without cause,
12 Sheol patetlah a hring lahoi payawp awh vaiteh, kadungpoung e tangkom dawk ka bawt e patetlah, (Sheol h7585)
let us swallow them alive like Sheol, and whole like those descending into the Pit. (Sheol h7585)
13 Aphu kaawm e hno pueng la awh vaiteh, lawphno hoi mamae im dawk kawi sak awh sei.
We will find all manner of precious goods; we will fill our houses with plunder.
14 Kaimouh koe kambawng van leih, maimae tangkabom suekâvan sak awh sei ati awh nakunghai,
Throw in your lot with us; let us all share one purse”—
15 ka capa, ahnimouh koe kambawng hanh. Ahnimae lamthung hah roun hanelah kâyawmh.
my son, do not walk the road with them or set foot upon their path.
16 Ahnimae khok teh yonnae koe lah a yawng teh, tami thei hanelah a hue a rang awh.
For their feet run to evil, and they are swift to shed blood.
17 Bangpatet e tava nakunghai a hmunae koe tamlawk yangda pawiteh, ayawm doeh.
How futile it is to spread the net where any bird can see it!
18 Hatei, ahnimouh teh amamouh hoi amamouh kâthei hanlah a kâpawp awh teh, amamae hringnae arulahoi ka pawm e lah doeh ao awh.
But they lie in wait for their own blood; they ambush their own lives.
19 Hot patetlah, kamsoumhoehe pungdawnae koe lah kahounlounnaw e hringnae teh, katawnkung hringnae hah a thei awh.
Such is the fate of all who are greedy, whose unjust gain takes the lives of its possessors.
20 Lungangnae ni a lawi lahoi kacaipounglah a kaw teh, lam tangkuem dawk lawk ceiceikapanglah a oung.
Wisdom calls out in the street, she lifts her voice in the square;
21 Tami kamkhuengnae koe a oung teh, khopui kâennae longkha koe lawk a dei.
in the main concourse she cries aloud, at the city gates she makes her speech:
22 Nangmouh kamawngramenaw, nâtotouh maw cungkeihoehe kamawngrame hah na lungpataw awh han rah. Kadudamnaw ni, dudamnae dawk a nawm awh teh, tamipathunaw ni panuethainae hah a hmuhma awh.
“How long, O simple ones, will you love your simple ways? How long will scoffers delight in their scorn and fools hate knowledge?
If you had repented at my rebuke, then surely I would have poured out my spirit on you; I would have made my words known to you.
Because you refused my call, and no one took my outstretched hand,
25 Kâhruetcuet na poe awh e puenghai na hnoun awh teh, na yuenae puenghai buet touh boehai bout na tarawi awh hoeh.
because you neglected all my counsel, and wanted none of my correction,
26 Hatdawkvah, yawthoenae na kâhmo awh toteh, na panuikhai vaiteh, lungpuennae na kâhmo awh to hai na panuikhai awh han.
in turn I will mock your calamity; I will sneer when terror strikes you,
when your dread comes like a storm, and your destruction like a whirlwind, when distress and anguish overwhelm you.
28 Hatnavah, na kaw awh han, hatei, na pato awh mahoeh. Atangcalah na tawng awh han, hatei, na hmawt awh mahoeh.
Then they will call on me, but I will not answer; they will earnestly seek me, but will not find me.
29 Panuethainae hah a hmuhma awh teh, BAWIPA taki hane hah na kârawi awh hoeh.
For they hated knowledge and chose not to fear the LORD.
30 Pouknae ka poe e hah ngai awh hoeh, ka yuenae puenghai banglah noutna awh hoeh.
They accepted none of my counsel; they despised all my reproof.
So they will eat the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.
For the waywardness of the simple will slay them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them.
33 Hatei, ka lawk ka tarawi e teh, karoumcalah kho a sak han. Thoenae taket laipalah karoumcalah ao awh han.
But whoever listens to me will dwell in safety, secure from the fear of evil.”
