< Matthai 23 >
1 Hathnukkhu Jisuh ni a hnukkâbangnaw hoi tamimaya koe lawk a dei pouh.
Then Jesus spoke to the crowds and to his disciples,
2 Cakathutkungnaw hoi Farasinaw teh Mosi e tahungnae dawk a tahung awh.
saying, The scribes and the Pharisees have set themselves down in Moses' seat:
3 Hatdawkvah ahnimouh ni a dei awh e pueng hah tarawi a nateh sak pouh awh. Ahnimae sak e patetlah teh sak awh hanh. Bangkongtetpawiteh, a dei awh e patetlah a sak awh hoeh dawk doeh.
all things therefore, whatever they may tell you, do and keep. But do not after their works, for they say and do not,
4 Ahnimouh ni ka ri ni teh phu ka ru e hnonaw hah a roup awh teh taminaw e loung dawk ouk a patue awh. Amamouh ni hote hnonaw teh a kutdawn ca hoi boehai takhoe ngai awh hoeh.
but bind burdens heavy and hard to bear, and lay them on the shoulders of men, but will not move them with their finger.
5 A sak awh e hno pueng hah ayâ ni hmu nahanlah doeh a sak awh. A tampa dawk a kawm sin awh e akana a len sak awh teh, khohna dawk e akana a saw sak awh.
And all their works they do to be seen of men: for they make broad their phylacteries and enlarge the borders [of their garments],
6 Buvennae hoi sinakoknaw koe kahawi e tahungnae hah a lungpataw awh,
and love the chief place in feasts and the first seats in the synagogues,
7 hno yonae koe barinae, kacangkhaikung telah kawnae hah a ngai awh.
and salutations in the market-places, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi.
8 Nangmouh teh Rabbi telah kawnae hah dâw awh hanh. Khrih buet touh dueng doeh nangmouh na kacangkhaikung na tawn awh. Nangmouh pueng teh hmaunawngha lah na o awh.
But ye, be not ye called Rabbi; for one is your instructor, and all ye are brethren.
9 Talai van vah apihai apa telah kaw awh hanh. Kalvan kho vah nangmae na Pa buet touh dueng doeh kaawm.
And call not [any one] your father upon the earth; for one is your Father, he who is in the heavens.
Neither be called instructors, for one is your instructor, the Christ.
11 Nangmouh thung dawk kalenpounge tami teh nangmae patoun patang e lah ao han.
But the greatest of you shall be your servant.
12 Apipatethai amahoima kârasang e teh a rahim vah pabo lah kaawm han. Apipatethai amahoima kârahnoum e teh tawm lah kaawm han.
And whoever shall exalt himself shall be humbled, and whoever shall humble himself shall be exalted.
13 A laikathout e cakathutkungnaw hoi Farasinaw yawthoe lah na o awh. Kalvan uknaeram teh ayânaw hanlah na khan awh teh namamouh hai na kâen awh hoeh, kâen han kangainaw haiyah na ngang awh.
But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, for ye shut up the kingdom of the heavens before men; for ye do not enter, nor do ye suffer those that are entering to go in.
14 A laikathout e cakathutkungnaw hoi Farasinaw yawthoe lah na o awh. Lahmainu e im hah na lawp awh teh a kamphawng hoeh nahanlah kasaw poung lah na ratoum awh. Hatdawkvah hoe kalen e yonphukhangnae hah na khang awh han.
15 A laikathout e cakathutkungnaw hoi Farasinaw, yawthoe lah na o awh. Bangkongtetpawiteh, tami buet touh hai namamae bawknae dawk kâen sak hanlah talî hoi a oung pheng na katin awh teh, na kâen sak hnukkhu teh namamouh hlak let hni e hell ca lah na o sak awh. (Geenna )
Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, for ye compass the sea and the dry [land] to make one proselyte, and when he is become [such], ye make him twofold more [the] son of hell than yourselves. (Geenna )
Woe to you, blind guides, who say, Whosoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, he is a debtor.
17 Tamipathu, mitdawnnaw, nâ e hno maw ka talue.
Fools and blind, for which is greater, the gold, or the temple which sanctifies the gold?
18 Thuengnae khoungroe noe lahoi thoe ka bo e teh cak hoeh, thuengnae khoungroe van kaawm e thuengnae hno hah noe lahoi thoe ka bo e teh a cak na ti awh.
And, Whosoever shall swear by the altar, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gift that is upon it is a debtor.
19 Mitdawnnaw, bangpatet e hno maw hoe ka talue.
[Fools and] blind ones, for which is greater, the gift, or the altar which sanctifies the gift?
20 Hatdawkvah thuengnae khoungroe hah noe lahoi thoe na bo pawiteh thuengnae khoungroe khuehoi avan e kaawm hno pueng hah mek na noe teh thoe na bo toe.
He therefore that swears by the altar swears by it and by all things that are upon it.
21 Bawkim hah noe lahoi thoe na bo pawiteh a thung kaawm e khuehoi thoe mek na bo toe.
And he that swears by the temple swears by it and by him that dwells in it.
22 Kalvan kho noe hoi thoe ka bo e teh Cathut e bawitungkhung hoi, a van ka tahung e khuehoi mek na noe teh thoe na bo toe.
And he that swears by heaven swears by the throne of God and by him that sits upon it.
A lathueng lah dei e hai sak laipalah awm awh hanh.
Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, for ye pay tithes of mint and anise and cummin, and ye have left aside the weightier matters of the law, judgment and mercy and faith: these ye ought to have done and not have left those aside.
Blind guides, who strain out the gnat, but drink down the camel.
25 A laikathout e cakathutkungnaw hoi Farasinaw yawthoe lah na o awh. Manang hoi tongben hah avanlah na pâle awh ei a thung lah teh lawpnae hoi dumyennae hoi na kawi awh.
Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the dish, but within they are full of rapine and intemperance.
26 Mit ka dawn e Farasinaw, manang hoi tongben hah a thung lah hmaloe pâle awh. Hottelah na sak pawiteh doeh alawilah hai thoung tih.
Blind Pharisee, make clean first the inside of the cup and of the dish, that their outside also may become clean.
27 A laikathout e cakathutkungnaw hoi Farasinaw yawthoe lah na o awh. Hote tangkom teh alawilah hroung ahawi. Athung teh tami hru, khinnae a cawngca hoi akawi.
Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, for ye are like whited sepulchres, which appear beautiful outwardly, but within are full of dead men's bones and all uncleanness.
28 Hot patetvanlah alawilah, taminaw hmalah teh tamikalan patetlah na o awh, athunglah teh laithoenae hoi dumyennae hoi na kawi awh.
Thus also ye, outwardly ye appear righteous to men, but within are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.
29 A laikathout e cakathutkungnaw hoi Farasinaw, yawthoe lah na o awh. Profetnaw e phuen hah na sak awh teh tami kalannaw e phuen hah na pathoup awh.
Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, for ye build the sepulchres of the prophets and adorn the tombs of the just,
and ye say, If we had been in the days of our fathers we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.
So that ye bear witness of yourselves that ye are sons of those who slew the prophets:
32 Hatdawkvah mintoenaw e a sakyoe awh e totouh phat awh.
and ye, fill ye up the measure of your fathers.
33 Hrunthoe catounnaw bangtelamaw lawkcengnae hell thung hoi na hlout a thai han raw vaw. (Geenna )
Serpents, offspring of vipers, how should ye escape the judgment of hell? (Geenna )
34 Hatdawkvah thai awh haw, nangmouh koevah, profetnaw, a lungkaang naw, cakathutkungnaw ka patoun han. A tangawn teh na thei awh vaiteh thingpalam dawk na pathout awh han. Atangawn hah sinakoknaw dawk na hem awh teh, kho buet touh hoi buet touh na rektap awh teh na hrek awh han.
Therefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes; and [some] of them ye will kill and crucify, and [some] of them ye will scourge in your synagogues, and will persecute from city to city;
35 Hatdawkvah, tamikalan Abel e thi koehoi athung bawkim hoi thuengnae khoungroe rahak na thei awh e Berekhiah capa Zekhariah e a thi totouh talai van dawk rabawk lah kaawm tangcoung e tami kalannaw e thi teh nangmae lû dawk ka bawt han.
so that all righteous blood shed upon the earth should come upon you, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar.
36 Atangcalah na dei pouh awh. Hete hno pueng heh, hete catounnaw van vah ka phat han.
Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation.
37 Oe! Jerusalem, Jerusalem, profetnaw kathetkung, nang koe patoun lah kaawm e naw talung hoi kadêikung, Âpui ni a canaw hah a rathei rahim a pâkhueng e patetlah na canaw hah kamkhueng sak hanlah avai moikapap ngainae ka tawn toe. Hatei, nang ni teh na ngai hoeh.
Jerusalem, Jerusalem, [the city] that kills the prophets and stones those that are sent unto her, how often would I have gathered thy children as a hen gathers her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!
38 Thai haw, na onae im teh tami kingkadi lah doeh ceitakhai lah ao toe.
Behold, your house is left unto you desolate;
for I say unto you, Ye shall in no wise see me henceforth until ye say, Blessed [be] he that comes in the name of [the] Lord.
