Luk 14

1 Jisuh teh sabbath hnin vah bu ca hanelah Farasi bawi buet touh im a kâen teh, hatnavah ahnimouh ni Bawipa teh a tuet awh.

And it came to pass, when he entered into the house of one of the rulers of the Pharisees, on a Sabbath, to eat bread, that, they, were narrowly watching him.

2 A hmalah phing patawnae ka tawn e tami buet touh teh ao.

And lo! there was, a certain man, who had the dropsy, before him.

3 Sabbath hnin patawnae dam sak han maw telah Farasinaw hoi cakathutkungnaw hah Jisuh ni a pacei navah,

And Jesus, answering, spake unto the Lawyers and Pharisees, saying—Is it allowed, on the Sabbath, to cure, or not? But, they, held their peace.

4 ahnimouh teh lawkkamuem ao awh. Jisuh ni hote tami a kaw teh patawnae dawk hoi hlout sak hnukkhu bout a tha.

And taking hold [of him] he healed and dismissed him, —

5 Hathnukkhu ahnimanaw koe, sabbath hnin vah na capa hoehpawiteh na maito tangkom dawk bawt pawiteh rasat laipalah apimouh na kaawm awh han telah a pacei.

and, unto them, said—Which of you, shall have a son or an ox that, into a pit, shall fall, and will not straightway pull him up, on the day of rest?

6 Ahnimouh ni lawk kam touh boehai pathung thai awh hoeh.

And they could not return an answer unto these things.

7 Hatnavah kaw e tami teh bari kaawm e tahungnae dawk a rawi awh e hah a hmu torei teh ahnimanaw han bangnuenae a dei pouh.

And he went on to speak, unto the invited, a parable, —observing how, the first couches, they were choosing; saying unto them—

8 Tami ni yuvâ kâpaluennae pawi koe nang na kaw navah bari kaawm e hmuen koe tahung hanh. Hottelah na tahung pawiteh nang hlak ka talue e tami pawi koe tho pawi teh,

Whensoever thou hast been invited by anyone unto a marriage feast, do not recline on the first couch; lest once, a more honourable than thou, have been invited by him,

9 nangmouh ka kaw e tami ni hete tami hmuen poe leih telah a dei han. Hatnavah nang teh yeiraipo hoi ka rahnoum e hmuen koe na kum han.

and he that invited both thee and him should come, and say unto thee—Give, unto this one, place! and, then, thou shouldst begin, with shame, the last place, to occupy.

10 Tami ni nang na kaw navah cet nateh ka rahnoum e hmuen dawk tahung. Hottelah na awm pawiteh nang ka kaw e tami a tho navah ka hui haw e hmuen koe luen telah ati han. Hatnavah nang hoi cungtalah ka tahung e taminaw hmalah nang teh bari e lah na o han.

But, whensoever thou hast been invited, pass on and fall back into the last place, that, whensoever he that hath invited thee shall come, he may say unto thee—Friend! come close up, higher. Then, shalt thou have honour before all who are reclining together with thee.

11 Amahoima kârasang e tami teh rahnoum sak lah ao vaiteh, amahoima kârahnoum e tami teh rasang sak lah ao han atipouh.

Because, everyone who exalteth himself, shall be abased; and, he that abaseth himself, shall be exalted?

12 Jisuh ni ama ka kaw e tami koe bout a dei pouh e teh nang ni amombu, tangminbu na paca navah huikonaw, hmaunawnghanaw, miphunnaw hoi ka tawnta e imtenglawpamnaw na kaw mahoeh. Hottelah na kaw pawiteh a hnuk khu torei nang bout na kaw awh vaiteh na patho awh han.

Moreover he went on to say, unto him also who had invited him, —Whensoever thou mayest be making a dinner or a supper, do not call thy friends, or thy brothers, or thy kinsfolk, or rich neighbours, —lest once, they also, invite thee in return, and it become a recompense unto thee.

13 Pawi na to navah ka mathoe e tami, kuepcing hoeh e tami, a khokkhem e tami hoi a mit ka dawn e taminaw hah kaw awh.

But, whensoever, an entertainment, thou mayest be making, invite the destitute, the tried, the lame, the blind;

14 Hottelah na kaw pawiteh yawhawinae ao han. A lamthung teh hote taminaw ni na patho thai hoeh e lah ao dawkvah tami kalannaw a thawnae tueng dawkvah nang teh patho lah na o han telah atipouh.

and, happy, shalt thou be, that they have not wherewith to recompense thee, for it shall be recompensed unto thee, in the resurrection of the righteous.

15 Caboi koe ka tahung e tami buet touh ni hote lawk a thai navah Cathut uknaeram pawi dawk kâen e tami teh yawhawinae ao telah a dei navah,

And one of those reclining together, hearing these things, said unto him—Happy, whoever shall eat bread in the kingdom of God!

16 Jisuh ni tami buet touh teh ka talue poung lah pawi a sak teh taminaw pueng a kaw.

But, he, said unto him—A certain man, was making a great supper, and invited many;

17 Pawitonae tueng a pha toteh kaw tangcoung e taminaw koe tami a patoun teh, tho awh bangpuengpa coungkacoe lah ao toe telah a thai sak.

and he sent out his servant, at the hour of the supper, to say unto the invited—Be coming! because, even now, is it, ready.

18 Kaw kamcu e taminaw pueng ni a panuiparingkhai awh. Buet touh ni kai im hmuen ka ran. Ka cei vaiteh ka khet han. Kai na ngaithoum ei telah a kahei.

And they all began, one after another to excuse themselves. The first, said unto him—A field, have I bought, and have need to go out and see it: I request thee, hold me excused.

19 Buet touh ni kai maito bo panga touh ka ran toe. Ka cei vaiteh ka tanouk han rah. Kai na ngaithoum ei telah a kâhei.

And, another, said—Five yoke of oxen, have I bought, and am going my way to prove them; I request thee, hold me excused.

20 Buet touh ni kai ka yu hoi ka paluen toe. Hatdawkvah kai ka tho thai mahoeh.

And, another, said—A wife, have I married, and, for this cause, I cannot come!

21 A san ni bawipa koe bout a tho teh hote akongnaw a dei pouh. Hatnavah imkung a lungkhuek teh, kho thung lam teng lam rahak kaawmnaw, mathoenaw, kuepcinghoehnaw, khokkhemnaw hoi mitdawnnaw pueng kaw telah a san koe a dei pouh.

And, going near, the servant reported unto his lord these things. Then, provoked to anger, the master of the house said unto his servant—Go out quickly, into the broadways and streets of the city, —and, the destitute, and tried, and blind, and lame, bring thou in here.

22 A san ni hai Bawipa kâ na poe e patetlah ka sak toe. Hatei tahung nahane hmuen ka houng e ao rah telah a dei pouh.

And the servant said—Lord! what thou didst order, hath been done; and, yet, there is, room.

23 Hahoi, Bawipa ni kho lawi, lam dawk, takha teng cet ei, kaie im dawk muen akawi thai nahan koung kaw lawih.

And the lord said unto the servant—Go out among the highways and fences, and compel them to come in; that my house may be filled.

24 Hmaloe kaw e taminaw buet touh hai kaie tangminbu patek mahoeh telah a san koe a dei pouh, telah atipouh.

For, I say unto you—Not one of those men who had been invited, shall taste of my supper.

25 Hathnukkhu tamihupui teh Bawipa hnuk a kâbang awh teh, a kamlang sin teh a khet navah,

And there were journeying together with him many multitudes; and, turning, he said unto them—

26 apihai amae manu, napa, yuca, hmaunawnghanaw dueng laipalah amae hringnae patenghai pahnawt hoehpawiteh, ka hnuk kâbang lah awm thai hoeh.

If anyone cometh unto me, and hateth not his own father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brothers, and sisters, further also, even his own life, he cannot be my disciple.

27 Ama e thingpalam hrawm hoi ka hnuk kâbang hoeh e tami teh ka hnuk kâbang e lah awm thai hoeh.

Whoever beareth not his own cross, and cometh after me, cannot be my disciple.

28 Nangmouh thung dawkvah tami buetbuet touh ni, imrasang sak hanlah ngai pawiteh, hote im a cum totouh phoisa a khout hoi a khout hoeh e hah hmaloe tahung vaiteh, to laipalah ao han namaw.

For, who from among you, wishing to build a tower, doth not first sit down and count the cost, —whether he hath sufficient for completion;

29 Hottelah to laipalah hoi khomkhu a tapu teh im cum thai hoehpawiteh ka hmawt e pueng ni a pathoe awh han nahoehmaw.

lest once, he having laid a foundation, and not being able to finish, all who are looking on, should begin to mock at him,

30 Hete tami ni a kamtawng eiteh cum thai hoeh telah a pathoe awh han.

saying—This man, began to build, and was not able to finish!

31 Hothloilah siangpahrang buet touh ni alouke siangpahrang hoi kâtuk han ati navah, ransa 20,000 touh hoi ka târun e hah, ransa 10,000 touh hoi tâ hoi tâ hoeh hane hmaloe pouk mahoeh maw.

Or, what king, moving on to encounter, another king, in battle, will not sit down first and take counsel, whether he is able, with ten thousand, to meet him who, with twenty thousand, is coming against him.

32 Tâ thai mahoeh tetpawiteh alouke Siangpahrang ahlanae koe ao lahun navah laicei a patoun vaiteh roumnae ao thai nahan ngaithoumnae a hei han na vaiyaw.

And, if not, by any means, while he is yet afar off, he sendeth, an embassy, and requesteth the conditions of peace.

33 Hot patetlah nangmanaw pueng hai mae tawn e hnopainaw pueng na cettakhai hoehpawiteh kaie ka hnuk kâbang lah na awm thai hoeh.

Thus, therefore, everyone from amongst you, who doth not bid adieu unto all his own possessions, cannot be my disciple.

34 Palawi teh ahawi. Hatei palawi teh a paannae kahmat pawiteh bangtelah hoi maw bout paan thai han.

Good, therefore is the salt; but, if, even the salt, become tasteless, wherewith shall it be seasoned?

35 Talai hanelah thoseh, ei lahai thoseh, hawikhangnae ao hoeh toung dawkvah, alawilah ouk a tâkhawng awh. Thai nahane hnâ ka tawn e tami ni thai naseh telah atipouh.

Neither for land nor for manure, is it, fit: outside, they cast it! He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
