< Joel 1 >
1 Pathuel capa Joel koe ka tho e BAWIPA e a lawk teh,
[I am] Joel, the son of Pethuel. [This is] a message that Yahweh gave to me.
2 matawngnaw thai awh haw, khocaramcanaw pueng thai awh haw. Het patet e hno heh nangmae se nah ouk ao bawi ou. Mintoenaw e se nah ouk ao bawi ou.
You leaders [of Israel], and everyone else who lives in this country, listen [to this message]! Nothing [RHQ] like this has ever happened during the time that we have lived or the time when our ancestors lived.
3 Na canaw koe dei pouh awh, ahnimanaw ni hai a canaw koe patuen dei naseh. Ahnimae a canaw ni hai a catounnaw koe patuen dei naseh.
Tell your children about it, and tell your children to tell it to their children, and tell your grandchildren to tell it to their children.
4 Kasaimalawn ni a canawi e hah samtong kalennaw ni a ca awh. Samtong kalennaw ni a canawi e hah samtong kathoungnaw ni a ca awh. Samtong kathoungnaw ni a canawi e hah awsinaw ni a ca awh.
[I am talking about] the locusts that have eaten our crops. The first swarm of locusts came and cut [many of the leaves of the crops]; then another swarm came and ate [the rest of the leaves], then another swarm came hopping along, and finally another swarm came and they destroyed [everything else].
5 Yamuhrinaw kâhlaw awh nateh kap awh haw. Misurhrinaw misur abaw toung dawkvah khuikap awh haw.
You people who are drunk, wake up! Wake up and wail loudly, because all the grapes are ruined, and so there will be no new wine [MTY]!
6 Bangkongtetpawiteh, touk thai hoeh e tami thakaawme taminaw teh maimouh ram dawk a tho awh toe. Ahnimae a nô hoi a hânaw teh sendek e a nô hoi a hâ patetlah ao.
[Huge swarms of] locusts have entered our country. [They are like] [MET] a powerful army [that has very many soldiers], [with the result that] no one can count them. The locusts have teeth that are [as sharp as] the teeth of lions [DOU]!
7 Kaie misurkung a raphoe teh thaibunglungnaw a rawk sak toe. Arakawknaw a tâkhawng awh teh akangnaw pangawrang lah ao.
They have destroyed our grapevines and our fig trees [by] stripping off [and eating all] the bark, with the result that the branches are white [and (bare/have no leaves on them)].
8 A kum a naw navah vâ ka sak e napui ni buri a kâmuk teh a vâ a khui e patetlah khuikap awh haw.
Cry like [SIM] a young woman cries when the young man to whom she was (engaged/promised to marry) has died.
9 BAWIPA e im dawk pasoumhno, vaiyei hoi misur abaw toe. BAWIPA e thaw ka tawk e vaihmanaw phuenang awh haw.
There is no grain or wine for us to offer [as sacrifices] at the temple, [so] the priests who serve Yahweh are mourning/weeping.
10 Laikawknaw a rawk toe. Talainaw remke toe. Cakang hai a rawk toe. Misurtui a katha e hai abaw toe. Olive satui hai remphui toe.
[The crops in] the fields have been ruined; [it is as though] [PRS] the ground is mourning. The grain has been destroyed, there are no [grapes to make] wine, and there is no [more olive] oil.
11 Law thaw katawknaw khuikap awh haw, na a e apawhik a rawk dawkvah catun hoi catun hanlah na lungmathout awh haw. Takhakatawkkungnaw kap awh haw.
You farmers, grieve! You who take care of grapevines, wail, because the grain has been destroyed; there is no wheat or barley growing.
12 Misurkung a kamyai, thaibunglung hai a ke. Talekung, ungkung, Epalkung hoi alouke thingkung pueng teh a ke toe. Taminaw e lunghawinae puenghai a ke toe.
The grapevines and the fig trees have withered, and the pomegranate [trees] and palm [trees] and apricot [trees] have also dried up. The people are no longer joyful.
13 Thuengnae khoungroe koe thaw ka tawk e nangmouh vaihmanaw buri kâramuk nateh kap awh haw. Cathut e thaw katawknaw tho awh nateh buri kâramuk hoi kho pei ka dai lah ip awh haw. Bangkongtetpawiteh, nangmouh ni Bawipa e im dawk pasoumhno, misur hoi vaiyei na poe awh hoeh toe.
You priests, put on [rough] sack clothes and wail. You who serve God [by offering sacrifices] on the altar, wear those rough sack clothes all night [to show that you are mourning], because there is no grain or wine to be offered at the temple of your God.
14 Rawcahai nahane hnin khoe nateh pathang awh. Kamkhuengnae atueng hai pathang awh. A kum kacuenaw hoi khocaramca naw hah nangmae Cathut BAWIPA e im dawk pâkhueng awh nateh BAWIPA koe hram awh.
Tell the people that they should (fast/abstain from eating food). Tell the leaders and the other people to gather at the temple and to cry [out] to Yahweh [there].
15 Hote hnin dawk yawthoenae ao. Hote BAWIPA e hnin teh a hnai toe. Athakasaipounge ni raphoe e runae patetlah ka tho han.
Terrible things are happening to us! It will soon be the time when Yahweh, [who is] the Almighty God, [will really punish us], [when he] will cause us to experience more disasters.
16 Maimae mithmu roeroe vah cakawi abaw toe. Maimae Cathut e bawkim dawk lunghawinae awmhoeh toe.
Our crops are already gone, and no [one is] rejoicing at all [DOU] at the temple of our God.
17 Catinaw teh patuenae koe a pawk awh. Cakang ao hoeh dawkvah capainaw a rawk toe. Hno pâtungnae im hai a rawk toe.
[When we plant] seeds, [they do not grow]; they dry up in the ground, so there are no crops to harvest. Our barns/storehouses are empty; there is no grain [to store in them].
18 Saringnaw teh a kamsoe awh, maitohunaw teh hrâm ca hane ao hoeh dawkvah a patang awh. Tahunaw hai a due awh.
Our cattle groan, searching for a pasture with some grass to eat, and the sheep bleat because they are suffering.
19 Oe BAWIPA, kai ni nang na kaw. Bangkongtetpawiteh, kahrawng e hrâmnaw hoi thingkungnaw pueng teh hmai koung a kak toe.
Yahweh, I cry [out] to you, because our pastures and our forests have dried up in the hot sunshine [MET].
20 Sarangnaw ni hai nang na kaw awh. Bangkongtetpawiteh, palangnaw a hak teh kahrawng e hrâmnaw hai hmai koung a kak toe.
[It is as though] even the wild animals cry [out] to you because all the streams have dried up. The rivers and streams are all dry, and the grass in the pastures is all parched.
