< Job 34 >

1 Elihu ni rekrek a pathung teh,
Then Elihu continued:
2 Nangmouh a lungkaangnaw ka lawk heh thai awh, Nangmouh panuenae katawnnaw, na hnâpakeng awh.
“Hear my words, O wise men; give ear to me, O men of learning.
3 Bangkongtetpawiteh, ka kâko ni rawca atuinae a patek e patetlah, hnâ ni lawk hah a tanouk van.
For the ear tests words as the mouth tastes food.
4 Maimouh roeroe ni lannae teh, kârawi awh haw sei. Ahawinae hah bangmaw tie hah maimae thung hoi panuek awh haw sei.
Let us choose for ourselves what is right; let us learn together what is good.
For Job has declared, ‘I am righteous, yet God has deprived me of justice.
Would I lie about my case? My wound is incurable, though I am without transgression.’
7 Panuikhainae hah tui patetlah ka net e, Job patetlah apimaw kaawm.
What man is like Job, who drinks up derision like water?
8 Payonnae kasaknaw hoi kamyawng e, tamikathoutnaw hoi ka cet e apimaw kaawm.
He keeps company with evildoers and walks with wicked men.
9 Bangkongtetpawiteh, Cathut koe lunghawi e heh, tami ni banghai hawinae awm hoeh telah ati toe
For he has said, ‘It profits a man nothing that he should delight in God.’
10 Hatdawkvah, panuethainae katawnnaw na thai pouh haw, kathoute ka sak e teh, Cathut hanelah roeroe coung thai hoeh, yonnae ka sak e teh, Athakasaipounge hanelah khoeroe coung thai hoeh.
Therefore listen to me, O men of understanding. Far be it from God to do wrong, and from the Almighty to act unjustly.
For according to a man’s deeds He repays him; according to a man’s ways He brings consequences.
12 Cathut ni kahawihoeh poung lah sak mahoeh, nahoeh pawiteh, Athakasaipounge ni lannae teh, khoeroe kamlang takhai mahoeh.
Indeed, it is true that God does not act wickedly, and the Almighty does not pervert justice.
13 Apinimaw ama teh talai e thaw a poe, talai van pueng heh apinimaw ama a uk sak.
Who gave Him charge over the earth? Who appointed Him over the whole world?
14 Ama ni tami teh a ngainae awm hoeh pawiteh, kai e hringnae kâha hah lat boipawiteh,
If He were to set His heart to it and withdraw His Spirit and breath,
15 Takthai pueng reirei a kahma han tami teh vaiphu lah bout a ban han.
all flesh would perish together and mankind would return to the dust.
16 Thaipanueknae na tawn awh pawiteh, Kâlawk pawlawk heh thai awh haw.
If you have understanding, hear this; listen to my words.
Could one who hates justice govern? Will you condemn the just and mighty One,
who says to kings, ‘You are worthless!’ and to nobles, ‘You are wicked,’
19 Hateiteh, ahni ni bawi hai kapeknae tawn hoeh, Tami tangreng hoi roedeng hoi kapeknae ka tawn hoeh e doeh. Bangkongtetpawiteh, abuemlahoi amae kutsaknaw doeh.
who is not partial to princes and does not favor rich over poor? For they are all the work of His hands.
20 Karumsaning tawkkadek a due awh teh, taminaw pueng hah a kâhuet awh teh, koung a kahma awh, tami athakaawme hai tami e kut laipalah be kahmat lah a la pouh.
They die in an instant, in the middle of the night. The people convulse and pass away; the mighty are removed without human hand.
21 Bangkongtetpawiteh, a mit teh tami e lamthung dawk ao teh, a khoktakan puenghai be a hmu,
For His eyes are on the ways of a man, and He sees his every step.
22 Yonnae kasaknaw, amamouh kâhro nahane hmuen awmhoeh, duenae tâhlip hai awm hoeh.
There is no darkness or deep shadow where the workers of iniquity can hide.
23 Bangkongtetpawiteh, Cathut e hmalah lawkceng hane cei hanelah, tami e kong bout pouk hane ama ni panki hoeh.
For God need not examine a man further or have him approach for judgment.
24 A kung rek khei ngai laipalah athakaawme taminaw hah koung a tâtueng han, ahnimae hmuen dawk tami alouke o nahanelah ka poe han.
He shatters the mighty without inquiry and sets up others in their place.
25 Hatdawkvah, ahnimouh ni a sak e pueng hah a panue teh, karum vah ama ni a tâkhawng teh koung a kâbawng.
Therefore, He recognizes their deeds; He overthrows them in the night and they are crushed.
26 Tami ni a hmu thai e hmuen koe, tamikathoutnaw patetlah a hem awh.
He strikes them for their wickedness in full view,
27 Bangkongtetpawiteh, ama hah a kamlang takhai awh, a lamthung hah pouk raw pouk awh hoeh.
because they turned aside from Him and had no regard for any of His ways.
28 Hottelah karoedengnaw e lawk hah a hmalah a pha, Bangkongtetpawiteh rektapnaw e lawk hah a ma ni a thai.
They caused the cry of the poor to come before Him, and He heard the outcry of the afflicted.
29 BAWIPA ni roumnae a poe torei teh, apinimaw rucatnae a poe thai han, a minhmai a hro torei teh, apinimaw a hmu thai han, miphun buet touh taranlahoi thoseh, tami buet touh taranlahoi thoseh,
But when He remains silent, who can condemn Him? When He hides His face, who can see Him? Yet He watches over both man and nation,
that godless men should not rule or lay snares for the people.
Suppose someone says to God, ‘I have endured my punishment; I will offend no more.
Teach me what I cannot see; if I have done wrong, I will not do it again.’
Should God repay you on your own terms when you have disavowed His? You must choose, not I; so tell me what you know.
Men of understanding will declare to me, and the wise men who hear me will say:
35 Job ni panuenae tawn laipalah lawk hah a dei, a lawk hah lungangnae kaawm hoeh e naw doeh telah a dei awh.
‘Job speaks without knowledge; his words lack insight.’
36 Oe Job heh a pout totouh tanouknae lah awm yawkaw naseh, bangkongtetpawiteh, lawk pathungnae hah tamikathoutnaw lawk pathungnae patetlah ao.
If only Job were tried to the utmost for answering like a wicked man.
37 Bangkongtetpawiteh, a yonnae dawk taranthawnae a thap sin, maimouh koevah, kut tambei teh, Cathut taranlahoi lawk a pap telah a ti.
For he adds rebellion to his sin; he claps his hands among us and multiplies his words against God.”
