< Daniel 1 >
1 Judah siangpahrang Jehoiakim a bawinae a kum thum nah, Babilon siangpahrang Nebukhadnezar ni Jerusalem kho a thosin teh, king a kalup.
In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came to Jerusalem and besieged it.
2 BAWIPA ni Judah siangpahrang Jehoiakim hoi bawkim dawk e hnopainaw a tangawn hah Nebukhadnezar kut dawk a poe. Nebukhadnezar ni a man e naw hah, Babilon kho kaawm e amamae bawkim thung a hrawi teh, hnopainaw hah hnopai im dawk a hruek awh.
And the Lord delivered into his hand Jehoiakim the king of Judah and a portion of the vessels of the house of God. And he carried them away into the land of Shinar, to the house of his god, and he brought the vessels into the treasure chamber of his god.
3 Hat toteh, siangpahrang ni tuenlanaw dueng dawk kacuelah kaawm e Asphenaz hah a kaw teh,
And the king told Ashpenaz, the chief of the eunuchs, that he should bring in some of the sons of Israel, and some of the offspring of the king and of the sovereigns:
4 Isarelnaw man e naw thung dawk hoi, a takthai kahawi e, a mei kahawi e, kamtu thai e, a lawkdei kahawi e, panuenae dawk a hue karang e naw hoi, siangpahrang im dawk thaw tawk han kamcu e nawsainaw hah na rawi han. Hahoi, Khaldean ca hoi lawk hah na cangkhai han atipouh.
young men, in whom there was no blemish, noble in appearance, and accomplished in all wisdom, cautious in knowledge, and well-educated, and who could stand in the palace of the king, so that he might teach them the letters and the language of the Chaldeans.
5 Siangpahrang e rawca hah kum thum totouh hnintangkuem paca hnukkhu, siangpahrang im thaw a tawk awh han.
And the king appointed for them provisions for each day, from his own food and from the wine which he himself drank, so that, after being nourished for three years, they would stand in the sight of the king.
6 Hotnaw thung dawkvah, Judah tami Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, hoi Azariah tinaw a kâpa awh.
Now, among those of the sons of Judah, there were Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah.
7 Tuenla e naw kaukkung ni, ahnimanaw hah a min koung athung pouh. Daniel hah Belteshazzar, Hananiah hah Shadrak, Mishael hah Meshak, Azariah hah Abednego atipouh awh.
And the chief of the eunuchs assigned names to them: to Daniel, Belteshazzar; to Hananiah, Shadrach; to Mishael, Meshach; and to Azariah, Abednego.
8 Daniel ni siangpahrang e rawca hoi misur canei e lahoi kakhin hoeh nahanelah, hot patet e rawca hah na paca hanh loe telah tuenlanaw kaukkung koe a kâhei.
But Daniel resolved in his heart that he would not be polluted with the king’s meal, nor with the wine he drank, and he requested of the chief of the eunuchs that he might not be contaminated.
9 Cathut pahren lahoi tuenlanaw kaukkung ni Daniel hah a pahren eiteh, ka bawipa ni nangmae rawca mitkhet hanelah, a hruek e hah kai hai ka taki van.
And so God gave Daniel grace and mercy in the sight of the leader of the eunuchs.
10 Ahni ni nouh nangmouh hanlah rawcarawnei naw hah a hmoun. Nangmae minhmai teh alouke nawsainaw e minhmai patetlah a meihawi hoeh e hah ka bawipa ni hmawt pawiteh, nangmouh kecu dawk kai teh ka lahuen a thawk toe, telah Daniel koe a dei pouh.
And the leader of the eunuchs said to Daniel, “I am afraid of my lord the king, who has appointed food and drink for you, who, if he should see that your faces are leaner than those of the other youths your age, you would condemn my head to the king.”
11 Hattoteh Daniel ni, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, Azariah tinaw ka khenyawn hanelah tuenlanaw kaukkung ni a hruek e rawca mitkhenkung koevah,
And Daniel said to Malasar, whom the leader of the eunuchs had appointed over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah,
12 kaimouh hanelah rawca hah anhla hoi tui maha hnin hra touh thung na poe na teh na tanouk haw.
“I beg you to test us, your servants, for ten days, and let roots be given to us to eat and water to drink,
13 Hathnukkhu kaimae minhmai hoi siangpahrang rawca ka catnet e nawsainaw e minhmai hah khen nateh na hmu e patetlah thaw tawk haw atipouh.
and then observe our faces, and the faces of the children who eat the king’s food, and then deal with your servants according to what you see.”
14 Rawca mitkhenkung nihai, a lungkuep teh hnin hra touh a tanouk.
When he had heard these words, he tested them for ten days.
15 Hnin hra touh akuep toteh, ahnimae minhmai teh rawca ka catnet e nawsainaw e minhmai hlak a meihawi awh teh, phuekuek lah ao awh.
But, after ten days, their faces appeared better and fatter than all the children who had eaten from the king’s food.
16 Hat toteh, rawca mitkhenkung ni ahnimouh hanelah, a hmoun e rawca hoi misurtui hah a takhoe teh anhla hoi duengdoeh a kawk toe.
Thereafter, Malasar took away their portions and their wine for drinking, and he gave them roots.
17 Cathut ni hote nawsainaw pali touh hah panuenae, ca thoumnae hoi kamtu e pueng thoum thainae hah a poe. Daniel teh vision hoi mangnaw pueng hai a panue thai.
Yet, to these children, God gave knowledge and instruction in every book, and wisdom, but to Daniel, also the understanding of all visions and dreams.
18 Siangpahrang im a kâen nahane atueng khoe e akuep toteh, tuenlanaw kaukkung ni nawsainaw hah a kaw teh siangpahrang im thung a kâenkhai.
And when the time was completed, after which the king had said that they would be brought in, the chief of the eunuchs brought them in before the sight of Nebuchadnezzar.
19 Siangpahrang ni hote nawsainaw a pacei pakaw hnukkhu Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, Azariah tinaw hoi kâvan e buet touh hai ao awh hoeh dawkvah, ahnimanaw teh, siangpahrang koe thaw tawk hane kâ a hmu awh.
And, when the king conversed with them, there had not been found any so great in all the world as Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah; and so they stood in the sight of the king.
20 Siangpahrang ni a pacei e panuenae puenghoi thoumthainae pueng dawkvah, a ram thung kaawm e mitpaleikathoum e, kut khet ka thoum e naw pueng hlak let hra touh hoi a thoum awh e hah a hmu.
And in every concept of wisdom and understanding, about which the king consulted with them, he found them to be ten times better than all the seers and astrologers put together, who were in his entire kingdom.
21 Daniel teh Sairas siangpahrang a bawinae apasuek kum totouh ao.
And so Daniel remained, even until the first year of king Cyrus.
