< 1 Timote 3 >
1 Tami buet touh ni bishop thaw tawk hanelah ngai pawiteh thaw kahawi ka ngai e lah ao.
IT is a true saying, If a man seeks the office of a bishop, he desireth a laudable employment.
2 Bishopnaw teh, tounhoehe, napui buet touh e vâ lah kaawm e, kâhruetcuet e, kacuemkamui lah kaawm e, imyin ka ngai e, ka cangkhai thai e han.
A bishop then must be irreprehensible, the husband of one wife, temperate, sagacious, respectable, hospitable, well qualified for teaching;
3 Yamuhri lah kaawm hoeh e, ka pahngawpahrak hoeh e, kamsoum hoeh lahoi tangka hmu ka ngai hoeh e, a lung kanem e, ayâ hoi kâyue hoeh e, tangka ka hounloun hoeh e han.
not addicted to wine, not using hard words or blows, not greedy of base gain; but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money;
4 Ama e imthung kahawicalah ka uk thai niteh, a canaw ka yue ka toun thai e tami han.
presiding over his own family with propriety, having his children under subjection with all gravity of behaviour:
5 Ama e imthungkhu patenghai kahawicalah hrawi thai hoehpawiteh bangtelamaw kawhmoun a khetyawt thai han.
for if a man knoweth not how to order his own family, how shall he take proper care of the church of God?
6 Kâthungtahma e tami mahoeh. Telah nahoeh pawiteh, ahni ni kâoup vaiteh, kahraimathout hoi kâvan e yonphukhangnae dawk bawt payon vaih tie ngaihrinae ao.
Not a new convert, lest he be puffed up, and fall into the devil’s crime.
7 Pathoenae awm laipalah kahraimathout mannae dawk hoi a hlout nahan, alawilae taminaw koe bari kaawm e tami han.
He must also have a fair character from those who are without, that he may not fall into reproach, and into the snare of the devil.
8 Hot patetvanlah, hotunaw hai a lung kacakpounge han. A lai ka samphei e, yamuhri lah kaawm e tami mahoeh. Kathounghoehe tangka hmunae ka ngai hoeh e tami han.
The deacons also in like manner must be grave, not doubletongued, not addicting themselves to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre;
9 Ma hoi ma kâpanuenae lung a thoung vaiteh yuemnae a dungkawnae hah mangkhak kangdoutkhai e tami han.
holding the mystery of the faith with a pure conscience.
10 Ahnimouh hai tanouknae hmaloe a kâhmo awh hnukkhu, tounhoehe lah awm pawiteh, hotunaw thaw tawk awh naseh.
And let these also be first proved, and if found blameless, then let them enter on the deacon’s office.
11 Ahnimae yunaw hai a lung kacakpounge lah ao awh han. Tamcueklawk ka dei e lah awm laipalah, kâhruetcuet e, lawkkam kacakpounge lah ao awh han.
Their wives in like manner must be grave women, not addicted to scandal, sober, faithful in all things.
12 Hotunaw teh, napui buet touh e vâ lah ao han. A yu a ca kahawicalah ka uk thai e han.
Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ordering well their children and their own families.
13 Bangkongtetpawiteh, hotunaw thaw kahawicalah katawknaw teh, amamouh hanelah min hawinae a hmu awh hloilah, Khrih Jisuh thung yuemnae dawkvah, taranhawinae a hmu awh.
For they who discharge the office of a deacon with propriety, acquire to themselves a respectable station in the church, and great boldness in the faith which is in Jesus Christ.
14 Nang koe ca ka thut ngainae teh nang koe karanglah ka tho hane ka ngaihawi ei,
These things I write to thee, hoping to come unto thee shortly:
15 ka hnawng pawiteh Cathut e imthung dawkvah bangtelamaw kâroekâkhawi han tie hah, na panue thai nahanlah, hettelah ka thut teh na patawn. Hote im hateh, kahring Cathut e Kawhmoun doeh, lawkkatang e khom hoi adu pui doeh.
but should I be delayed, that thou mayest know how it behoveth thee to conduct thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and the pedestal of truth.
16 Cathut lawk hoi khosaknae teh atangcalah adungkaw tangngak. Cathut teh takthai dawk a kamnue toe. Muitha lahoi a katang doeh titeh a kampangkhai. Kalvantaminaw nihai a hmu awh toe. Jentelnaw nihai kamthang lawk a thai awh toe. Talaivan taminaw nihai a yuem awh toe. Bawilennae hoi lathueng lah tawm lah ao toe.
And confessedly great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifested in the flesh, justified by the Spirit, seen of angels, preached among the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.
