< 1 Samuel 25 >
1 Hathnukkhu, Samuel a due navah, Isarelnaw pueng teh a khuika awh. Ahni teh Ramah kho a onae im koe a pakawp awh. Devit teh Paran kahrawngum lah a cei.
Samuel died; and all Israel gathered themselves together, and lamented him, and buried him in his house at Ramah. David arose, and went down to the wilderness of Maon.
2 Maon vah tami buet touh ao. Hote tami teh, Karmel kho dawk ka tawnta poung e lah ao teh tu 3000 touh hoi hmae 1000 touh a tawn. Karmel vah tumuen ouk a ngaw.
There was a man in Maon, whose possessions were in Carmel; and the man was very great, and he had three thousand sheep, and a thousand goats: and he was shearing his sheep in Carmel.
3 Hote tami min teh Nabal doeh. A yu e min teh Abigail. Hote e napui teh, a lungkaang e hoi a meikahawi e lah ao. Hatei a vâ teh, a lung ka patak e hoi a nuen kamathout e lah ao. Ahni teh Kaleb catounnaw doeh.
Now the name of the man was Nabal; and the name of his wife Abigail. And the woman was intelligent and beautiful, but the man was harsh and evil in his dealings; and the man was a Calebite.
4 Devit ni kahrawngum hoi Nabal ni tumuen a ngaw e hah a panue.
David heard in the wilderness that Nabal was shearing his sheep.
5 Hatdawkvah, Devit ni thoundounnaw 10 touh a patoun teh, hatnavah thoundounaw hah Devit ni Karmel lah takhang awh nateh, Nabal koe na cei awh vaiteh, ka min lahoi kut man awh.
So David sent ten young men, and said to the young men, "Go up to Carmel, and go to Nabal, and greet him in my name.
Thus you are to say to my brother, 'Peace be to you, and peace be to your house, and peace be to all that you have.
And now, look, I have heard that you have shearers. Now your shepherds have been with us in the wilderness, and we did not hurt them, neither was there anything missing from them, all the while they were in Carmel.
8 Na thoundounnaw pacei haw, a dei awh han doeh.
Ask your young men, and they will tell you. Therefore let the young men find favor in your eyes; for we come in a good day. Please give whatever comes to your hand, to your servants, and to your son David.'"
9 Devit e thoundounnaw a pha toteh, Devit ni lawk a thui e patetlah Nabal koe a dei pouh awh teh, duem ao awh.
So the young men came and spoke to Nabal according to all those words on David's behalf, but he behaved arrogantly.
10 Hatei, Nabal ni Devit e a sannaw koe, Devit teh apimaw. Jesi capa teh apimaw. Atuvah a bawipa ka taran e sannaw nahoehmaw.
Nabal answered David's servants, and said, "Who is David? Who is the son of Jesse? There are many servants who break away from their masters these days.
11 Ka vaiyei, ka tui, hoi ka tumuen kangawnaw hanelah ka thei pouh e heh nâ lahoi maw a tho awh tie ka panue hoeh e taminaw hah ka poe han namaw.
Shall I then take my bread, and my wine, and my meat that I have slaughtered for the shearers of my sheep, and give it to men who I do not know where they come from?"
12 Hatdawkvah, Devit e thoundounnaw karanglah a ban awh teh, Devit koe Nabal ni a dei e naw hah a dei pouh awh.
So David's young men turned on their way, and went back, and came and told him according to all these words.
David said to his men, "Every man put on his sword." So every man put on his sword. David also put on his sword. About four hundred men followed David; and two hundred stayed by the baggage.
14 Hahoi, thoundoun buet touh ni Nabal e a yu Abigail koevah, khenhaw! Devit ni kahrawngum hoi maimae bawipa kut man hanelah a patounenaw a patoun teh, ahni ni a yue.
But one of the young men told Abigail, Nabal's wife, saying, "Look, David sent messengers out of the wilderness to greet our master; and he railed at them.
15 Hatei, ahnimanaw teh maimouh koe hroung ahawi awh. Runae banghai na poe boi awh hoeh. Law dawk ao awh nathung bang hno hai pasai awh hoeh.
But the men were very good to us, and we were not hurt, nor did we miss anything as long as we went with them, when we were in the fields.
They were a wall to us both by night and by day, all the while we were with them keeping the sheep.
17 Hatdawkvah, bangmaw na sak han. Kahawicalah pouk haw. Bangkongtetpawiteh, maimae bawipa hoi imthungnaw koe thoenae a sak han toe. Ahni teh tamikahawi hoeh e lah ao dawkvah, apinihai dei thai hoeh telah atipouh.
Now therefore know and consider what you will do; for evil is determined against our master, and against all his house; for he is such a worthless fellow that one can't speak to him."
18 Abigail ni karanglah vaiyei phen 200 touh, misurum kahni touh hoi thawng tangcoung e tu buem panga touh, tavai phen sum panga touh, misurpaw phen 100 touh, thaibunglung ka radip e 200 touh a sin teh, la a phu sak.
Then Abigail hurried and took two hundred loaves of bread, two bottles of wine, five sheep ready dressed, five measures of parched grain, one hundred clusters of raisins, and two hundred cakes of figs, and laid them on donkeys.
19 Hahoi ama koe kaawm e thoundounnaw koevah, ka hmalah pou cet awh. Nangmae hnuklah ka tho han atipouh. Hatei, a vâ Nabal koe dei pouh hoeh.
She said to her young men, "Go on before me. Look, I come after you." But she did not tell her husband.
20 La dawk a kâcui teh mon rahim a pha navah, Devit hoi a taminaw ahni koe a cathuk e hah a hmu teh, a kâhmo.
It was so, as she rode on her donkey, and came down by the covert of the mountain, that look, David and his men came down toward her; and she met them.
21 Devit ni ahnie hno buet touh boehai a kahma hoeh nahanelah kahrawngum vah, a tawn e pueng kai ni ayawmyin lah ka ring pouh. Ka hawinae heh thoenae hoi na pathung.
Now David had said, "Surely in vain have I kept all that this fellow has in the wilderness, so that nothing was missed of all that pertained to him. He has returned me evil for good.
22 Tangtho amom khodai totouh a tawn e pueng thung dawk hoi tongpa camo buet touh kangna ka hlung pawiteh Cathut ni Devit heh taran kut dawk a ngai patetlah na tet lawiseh. Hothlak hai hoe na tet yawkaw seh telah lawk yo a kam toe.
God do so to David, and more also, if I leave of all that belongs to him by the morning light so much as one who urinates on a wall."
23 Abigail ni Devit a hmu navah, la van hoi karanglah a kum teh, Devit hmalah a minhmai talai rekkâbet lah a tabo.
When Abigail saw David, she hurried, and got off from her donkey, and fell before David on her face, and bowed herself to the ground at his feet.
24 A khok koe a tabo teh, kai dawk roeroe vah thoe saknae bawt seh.
And she said, "On me, my lord, be the guilt; and please let your servant speak to you directly, and hear the words of your servant.
Please do not let my lord regard this worthless fellow, for as his name is, so is he. Nabal is his name, and folly is with him; but I, your servant, did not see the young men whom you sent.
Now therefore, my lord, as Jehovah lives, and as your soul lives, since Jehovah has withheld you from blood guiltiness, and from avenging yourself with your own hand, now therefore let your enemies, and those who seek evil to my lord, be as Nabal.
Now this present which your servant has brought to my lord, let it be given to the young men who follow my lord.
Please forgive the trespass of your servant. For Jehovah will certainly make my lord a sure house, because my lord fights the battles of Jehovah; and evil shall not be found in you all your days.
Nang e tarannaw e hringnae teh, tâyai hoi pathui e patetlah a thui vaiteh a kahma awh han.
Though men may rise up to pursue you, and to seek your soul, yet the soul of my lord shall be bound in the bundle of life with Jehovah your God. He will sling out the souls of your enemies, as from the hollow of a sling.
It shall come to pass, when Jehovah has done to my lord according to all the good that he has spoken concerning you, and shall have appointed you prince over Israel,
31 A khuekhaw awm laipalah, tami na thet hoeh.
that this will have no cause of grief or a troubled conscience for my lord, that blood was shed without cause and that my lord has gained victory by his own hand. And when Jehovah has done well with my lord, then remember your servant."
David said to Abigail, "Blessed is Jehovah, the God of Israel, who sent you this day to meet me.
33 Na khopouk thainae teh yawhawinae lah ao vaiteh, sahnin kai teh tami hringnae thei hanelah ka kâcai hoeh nahan, ka kut hoi moipathung laipalah, na kangangkung hai yawhawinae awm lawiseh.
Blessed is your discretion, and blessed are you, that have kept me this day from blood guiltiness, and from avenging myself with my own hand.
34 Bangkongtetpawiteh, nang hah runae na poe hoeh nahanlah hoi, ka ngang e Isarel BAWIPA Cathut teh a hring e patetlah kai hoi kâhmo hanelah karanglah na tho hoehpawiteh, tangtho amom vah Nabal hanelah tongpa buet touh boehai ka pâhlung mahoeh telah Abigail koe a dei pouh.
For indeed, as Jehovah, the God of Israel, lives, who has withheld me from hurting you, unless you had hurried and come to meet me, surely there wouldn't have been left to Nabal by the morning light so much as one who urinates on a wall."
So David received of her hand that which she had brought him: and he said to her, "Go up in peace to your house. Look, I have listened to your voice, and have granted your request."
36 Abigail ni hai Nabal koe bout a cei teh, ahni teh siangpahrang e pawibu patetlah bu a ca, puenghoi a parui dawkvah, a tangtho khodai hoehnahlan totouh banghai dei pouh hoeh.
Abigail came to Nabal; and look, he held a feast in his house, like the feast of a king. Nabal's heart was merry within him, for he was very drunk. Therefore she told him nothing, less or more, until the morning light.
37 Amom lah Nabal teh misur parui e a thangcuem toteh hote hnonaw hah a yu ni a dei pouh. Ama teh a lung a due pouh teh, talung patetlah ao.
It happened in the morning, when the wine was gone out of Nabal, that his wife told him these things, and his heart died within him, and he became as a stone.
38 Hnin 10 touh hnukkhu BAWIPA ni a hem teh a due.
It happened about ten days after, that Jehovah struck Nabal, so that he died.
39 Nabal a due e hah Devit ni a thai toteh, Nabal ni na pacekpahleknae koehoi na rasa teh, na san kai heh thoenae hno dawk hoi na ka hlout sak e BAWIPA teh a min pholennae awm lawiseh. BAWIPA Cathut ni Nabal hawihoehnae hah amae lathueng bout a pha sak toe telah a dei. Devit ni Abigail teh a yu hanelah tami a patoun.
And David heard, and he said, "Blessed is Jehovah, who has taken my side in the matter of Nabal's insult, and has kept back his servant from evil. Jehovah has returned the evildoing of Nabal on his own head." David sent and spoke concerning Abigail, to take her to him as wife.
40 Devit e a sannaw teh Abigail onae Karmel mon koe a pha awh toteh, Devit ni a yu hanelah a san kaimouh na patoun awh toe telah atipouh.
When the servants of David had come to Abigail to Carmel, they spoke to her, saying, "David has sent us to you, to take you to be his wife."
41 Abigail a thaw teh a hmalah talai dawk a tabo teh, na khenhaw! na sannu he ka bawipa e sannaw e khok pâsu hanelah doeh ka o atipouh.
She got up and bowed herself with her face to the ground, and said, "Look, your servant is a lowly servant to wash the feet of your servants."
42 Hathnukkhu Abigail a thaw teh, la dawk a kâcui. A hnukkâbang e a sannu 5 touh hoi Devit ni patounenaw koe a kâbang teh Devit e yu lah ao.
Then Abigail got up quickly and rode on a donkey, and with five female servants following her; and she followed the messengers of David, and became his wife.
43 Hatnavah, Devit ni Jezreel tami Ahinoam hah a yu lah la a tawn toe. Hattoteh kahni touh hoi yu lah reirei a la.
David also took Ahinoam of Jezreel; and they both became his wives.
44 Hatnavah, Sawl ni a canu Mikhal Devit e a yu teh Gallim tami Laish capa Palti koe yo la a kâhâ toe.
Now Saul had given Mikal his daughter, David's wife, to Palti the son of Laish, who was of Gallim.
