1 Nipi laija buhbang kheh ding le chang-at laija gojuh ding akilom pon, hijeh chun mingol jana peh hi thil hahsa ahi.
As snow is in summer, and as rain in harvest: so is honor not seemly to a fool.
2 Inva kichao hat le pelpalep lengle banga, ajeh beija kigaosapna chu gui lhung lou helding ahi.
As the bird [cometh] to flit away, as the swallow, to fly off: so will an undeserved curse not come [to fulfillment].
3 Sakol dinga ajepna akisem peh'a, sangan akamdal akisempeh bang in, mingol jong chu ajepna dinga mol kisem ahi.
A whip is for the horse, a bridle for the ass, and a rod for the fool's back.
4 Mingol chu angolna totoh in lethuh jeng dan, chutibol lechun koiman nahetkhen thei lou ding ahi.
Do not answer a fool according to his folly, lest thou also become equal unto him.
5 Mingol chu angolna dungjui in donbut'in, achuti louva ahileh ama mitmua ching kisa ding ahi.
Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own eyes.
6 Mingol khat chu thupolea naman chahle, nakeng kitanboh tobang chule thina gudon tobang nahi ding ahi.
He choppeth off the feet, and drinketh vexation, that sendeth important messages by the hand of a fool.
7 Mingol kom'a thuchih kisei chu alangngoi panna bei tobang ahi.
Too feebly hang down the thighs on a lame man: so is a parable in the mouth of fools.
8 Mingol jana kipe chu songsena bom'a, song chang ohden tobang bep ahi.
As is the one that bindeth a stone fast in a sling, so is he that giveth honor to a fool.
9 Mingol kam'a thuchih kiphongdoh jihi, jukham khut ling in asut vangpai tobang ahi.
[As] a thorn that is come into the hand of a drunkard, so is a parable in the mouth of fools.
10 Migoi pan mingol ham ahilouleh jukham hamkhat goikha achu, mi lah-a thal mohkap kappa tobang ahi.
A master injureth all things when he hireth a fool or hireth mere rovers.
11 Mingol in angol thu avelsei sei hi, aloh dohsa avel'a jonkit uicha tobang ahi.
As a dog returneth to his vomit, so doth a fool repeat to act in his folly.
12 Mihem ama le ama achinga kigel ho sang in, mingol din kinepna aum joi.
When thou seest a man wise in his own eyes, then is there more hope for a fool than for him.
13 Mithase pan asam'in “Lamlen'a keipi bahkai aum e, khulai dunga jong keipi bahkai aum'e kahei!” ati.
The slothful saith, There is a leopard in the way: a lion is between the streets.
14 Kotpi akol hom sunga akipei leji bang in, mithase jong ajalkhun chunga akihei le ji bouchu ahi jenge.
As a door turneth upon its hinges, so doth the slothful upon his bed.
15 Mithase chun akhut in bukong asoh jinan, hinlah akam geija akhut ledop ding athan ajou jitapoi.
Hath the slothful hidden his hand in the dish, it wearieth him to bring it back again to his mouth.
16 Miching thumop them sagi sang in, mingol chu ama changseh mitvet in akichihsah jin ahi.
The slothful is wiser in his own eyes, than seven men that can give wise answers.
17 Akin louhel'a mi kinahna'a gaki kumpa chu, uicha lhaile abilkol'a matding go tobang ahi.
As is one that taketh hold of a dog by the ears, so is he that passing by becometh excited about a dispute which concerneth him not.
18 Mingol chon banga chon-jia aheng akom meise kaikhum a, chule thina thei thalpia kap jenga chu,
As one fatigueth himself shooting off firebrands, arrows, and death:
19 Aheng akom jou'a lhemlha ahin, “Katot ahipoi,” tin aseije.
So is the man that hath cheated his neighbor, and saith, Behold, I am only jesting.
20 Meija man ding thing abei teng mei akon-theilou bang in, kiseiset tona abei teng kinahna jong athipdel jin ahi.
Where there is no wood, the fire goeth out: so where there is no whisperer, strife is silenced.
21 Vutsa lah'a hol akonbei bangle, thinggo meija akonbai bang in; mitoh kina jingpa chun, kinahna beilamtah in asodohsah jing in ahi.
As charcoals are added to burning coals, and wood to fire, so is a contentious man fitted to enkindle a dispute.
22 Thu kihou lhihna thei hol jing achu, an tuitah bang in aki ngaiton, mihem laigil sunga alut lhum mangjel jin ahi.
The words of a whisperer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost chambers of the body.
23 Gitlou lungpua muh tuisel'a thu kisei chu, phatvet maija leibel kitomjol sel tobang bep ahi.
Like silver dross laid over an earthen vessel, so are burning lips with a bad heart.
24 Mi thet jinga akamsunga phatmona selpa, alungthim a lhep lhahna jeng toh kivop,
With his lips dissembleth he that hateth, and within himself layeth he up deceit:
25 Khotona neitah banga thu asei teng jongleh, hitobang mihem chu tahsan hih hel in; ajeh chu ama tobang mihem lung sunga hin deium loutah thil sagi achengin ahi.
Though he make his voice sound ever so graciously, believe him not; for there are seven abominations in his heart.
26 Mi ajoubolna chu jonchih tah in kisel doh jong le, mipi maija aphatlouna kiphong jah tei ding ahi.
If one's hatred be covered by deception, then shall be laid bare his wickedness before a [whole] assembly.
27 Koi hileh mi lhah lutna dinga khuh laija chu, amajoh lhalut ding chule michunga chu dia songtum tanga chu, asongtum tah chu ama chunga hung kiletah lut ding ahibouve.
Whoso diggeth a pit will fall therein; and upon him that rolleth a stone, will it return.
28 Thujou seina leigui hin mi asuh genthei ho chu ahot bol cheh jin, chule thujou jeng seija leigui hin manthahna jeng atongdoh in ahi.
A lying tongue hateth those that are crushed by it; and a flattering mouth prepareth [others'] downfall.
