If you sit to sup at the table of a prince, consider attentively the things set before you:

desire not his provisions; for these belong to a false life.
4 Haodoh ding ngaito na boujeh in na-tong hih in, chule jou le phatlou a kon in haodoh ding jong ngaito hih in.
If you are poor, measure not yourself with a rich man; but refrain yourself in your wisdom.
5 Hitia haodohna dia namu chan chu miphetkah louva mang ding ahi. Ajeh chu chomlou kah'in muvanlai bang in vanlam angan aleng mang jitai.
If you should fix your eye upon him, he will disappear; for wings like an eagle's are prepared for him, and he returns to the house of his master.
6 Muda sasa'a navepa toh an nekhom hih in, aneh chu tuitah hijongleh ducha hih in.
Sup not with an envious man, neither desire you his meats:
7 Amapa chu alung thim in aphun in, nangma jah din, “Haneh in lang, hadon in don in” tia asei vang chun alung thim in nathet bouve.
so he eats and drinks as if any one should swallow a hair, and do not bring him in to yourself, nor eat your morsel with him:

for he will vomit it up, and spoil your fair words.
9 Mingol ho jah ding in houlim boldan, ajeh chu chihna thu nasei jouse imalouvin gel khaget inte.
Say nothing in the ears of a fool, lest at any time he sneer at your wise words.
10 Gol lui laija pat umsa gamgi song chu nabodoh lou hel ding, chule nu le pa neilou chagate lou-laia jong chelut hih in.
Remove not the ancient landmarks; and enter not upon the possession of the fatherless:
11 Ajeh chu amaho lhatdohpa chu mihat tah ahin, alhatdohpa tah uvin amaho athumop a apanhu ding ahi.
for the Lord is their redeemer; he is mighty, and will plead their cause with you.
12 Nalung thim in nakihilna ngaisang in lang, hetthemna thu kisei chengse jong ngai phan.
Apply your heart to instruction, and prepare your ears for words of discretion.
13 Na chate chu gahna beijin koihih in, nangman mol-lam jong le chun thilou diu;
Refrain not from chastening a child; for if you beat him with the rod, he shall not die.
14 Chule nangman achunga mol nalap-a ahileh, thina lampia kon nahuhdoh ding joh ahibouve. (Sheol )
For you shall beat him with the rod, and shall deliver his soul from death. (Sheol )
15 Kachapa, nangman chihna lungthim nanei poule, keima jong kipah ding kahi.
Son, if your heart be wise, you shall also gladden my heart;
16 Thudih chu nakam sunga kon nasei teng, keima lhagao jong kipah lheh ding ahi.
and your lips shall converse with my lips, if they be right.
17 Nalung thim in mi chonsete thang thip-pi dan, amavang nitin a Yahweh Pakai nagin ding ahi.
Let not your heart envy sinners: but be you in the fear of the Lord all the day.
18 Adih tah in nikho hung lhung dinga kinepna khat aum jing e, nangma kinepna jong mangthah lou hel ding ahi.
For if you should keep these things, you shall have posterity; and your hope shall not be removed.
19 Kachapa ngai tem in, chule chingthei tah in um in, nalung thim in lamdih jenga lam lhah ding ngaiton.
Hear, [my] son, and be wise, and rightly direct the thoughts of your heart.
20 Ju-kham holah a lha-hih beh in, sane holah jenga jong jao ding geldan.
Be not a wine-bibber, neither continue long at feasts, and purchases of flesh:

for every drunkard and whoremonger shall be poor; and every sluggard shall clothe himself with tatters and ragged garments.
22 Nahinga napa thumop ngai jing in, nanu jong ateh teng thetbol hih hel in.
Listen, [my] son, to your father which begot you, and despise not [your mother] because she is grown old.
23 Thutah chu kisan lut in lang pedoh hih in, chihna le kigah chahna chule hetthemna jong nakisan lut ding ahi.
24 Chate adih teng apa athanom in akipah jin, chapa chingtah hingpa jong achapa chunga kipah lheh ding ahi.
A righteous father brings up [his children] well; and his soul rejoices over a wise son.
25 Hijeh chun nanu le napa kipah thanom in umsah jing in, chule nahing nu nanu jong kipah tah'in umsah jing in.
Let your father and your mother rejoice over you, and let her that bore you be glad.
26 O Kachapa, nalung thim neipen lang, kanun le khan abonchan namit tenin vepha tan.
[My] son, give me your heart, and let your eyes observe my ways.
27 Numei kijoh hohi tijat um kokhuh tobang ahin, numei hija jonva le jong twikul tobang ahi.
For a strange house is a vessel full of holes; and a strange well is narrow.
28 Amanu chun gucha michom tobang in mi achang lhih le jin, chule pasal tamtah akipal sah in asuchavei jitai.
For such a one shall perish suddenly; and every transgressor shall be cut off.
29 Koiham avangse a pang? Koiham genthei thoh a pang? Koiham mitoh kiphun? Chule Koiham aki-engsah?
Who [has] woe? who trouble? who [has] quarrels? and who vexations and disputes? who [has] bruises without a cause? whose eyes are livid?
30 Hitobang miho chu ju-phung dalha louva tou chule jua lop ho ahiuve.
Are not those of them that stay long at wine? [are] not [those] of them that haunt [the places] where banquets are? Be not drunk with wine; but converse with just men, and converse [with them] openly.
31 Ju chu asan keikui teng vehih beh in, chule khon na vetnom umtah hihen lang; bailam tah a gah don thei di hi jong le, vetding jong go-hih hel in.
For if you should set your eyes on bowls and cups, you shall afterwards go more naked than a pestle.
32 Ajeh chu achaina teng gul gunei in mi achuh banga nachuh lo ding ahi.
But at last [such a one] stretches himself out as one struck by a serpent, and venom is diffused through him as by a horned serpent.
33 Namit tenin thil kidang tahtah amu ding, nalunggel jeng jong kikalah lah ding ahi.
Whenever your eyes shall behold a strange woman, then your mouth shall speak perverse things.
34 Chule twikhanglen lailunga lum den banga nalup den ding, konga kitungdoh khom chunga umpa banga naum'a nalup den ding ahi.
And you shall lie as in the midst of the sea, and as a pilot in a great storm.
35 Chutengleh “amaho hin eivo tauve,” tia nasei ding, hinlah “eivoh nau maha ima kamupoi,” amahon eivo nauvin, ahinlah kathoh lal poi. Kakhahdoh teng aban kahol nah lai ding ahi, tia nasei ding ahi.
And you shall say, They struck me, and I was not pained; and they mocked me, and I knew it not: when will it be morning, that I may go and seek those with whom I may go in company?
